Thank you for doing justice to my favorite film. I've seen most of the films considered to be among the best ever, including the finest from Bergman, Kurosawa, Ozu, Kubrick, Mizoguchi, ect., but nothing moved me like Grave of the Fireflies.

You did a wonderful job capturing many of the most beautiful moments of the movie, especially the moments at the beach in which Setsuko imitates the crab and when Seita playfully chases her. The concluding frames were perfect. Fantastic job!

All they talked about was "the enemy". As Japan has had so many wars in her history, the director felt no real need to demonize one particular foe. Instead the real enemy portrayed in this wonderful film was war itself and the terrible, senseless cost of human life it brings.

Incidentally, in Japanese, since there is no plural for nouns, "Grave of the Fireflies" easily translates into "Grave for a Firefly". When Setsuko asks "why do fireflies die so early", it can be a very chilling metaphor for her and her brother.
