"This car is weird, you have to clamp it to a piece of metal". That is how it is done CORRECTLY. All the morons always attach the negative lead to the negative on the battery. It's a good way to fry your battery. The right way of doing it is ALWAYS attach the positive to the positive terminal and negative to the engine block (if iron) or something of metal on the car. Geeez.
Replace the turn signal switch 40 to 65 dollars for the part and it is simple to replace. There is a video on you tube that explains how to replace the part.
its a commonn problem with pt cruisers the problem lies with the multifunction switch (the switch that controls the lights and the turn signals and what not, you have to get that replaced, probably a 50 dollar part, for a temporary you can pull the fuse until you can fix it
Did he fix the problem, or did he end up selling the car with the fuse pulled for the fog lamps. You would think he would follow up on the video after the dealer fixed the problem. Ive also never seen someone be so rough on a vehicle. ex: slamming the shifter from Park into Drive, Drive into Reverse...so on and so forth. Also...what is his point in trying to rev that poor engine above 3500 RPM with no load on the engine. Not sure if I would want to buy a vehicle from this guy.

The fog light problem is almost always the multifunction switch. They overheat and you end up with an intermittent fog lights that won't stay off. There is a DIY fix on one of the PT boards, but most people just pull the fuse. The car will start with the fuse pulled, I've had mine out for about 2,000 miles.
The car does not have a rev limiter or redline at 3800 rpm. You just can't rev them that high in park. If he put it in drive he'd be able to get up to the real redline.
not quite buying that rev limiter thing... it looked and sounded like you were just slowly getting it near 3800 and letting off. That doesn't sound like an engine hitting the limiter at all..
i have an 03 with this fog light problem, you can pull the fuse but the car wont start without it so i just reached under the car and disconnected the fog light plugs, light on dash still on but no battery drainage, until you decide to fix the problem in the switch.
It would have been nice if you'd showed what fuse to pull - interior/exterior & which number. I'm having a real hard time finding which one. Manual indicates #21 in the under hood box -- yet there is no fuse in that slot!
By the way, this is apparently a widespread issue with the PT's and is caused by faulty plastic switch design that wears down.
my dad had this same problem in his.. but we found out if you push down the blinker while the car is off the fog lights will turn off....some weird random thing but not sure if it will only work with ours but we got it fixed
oh man i just discovered this with my cruiser yesterday as the fog lights started going on randomly, my last trip out was around 3 pm and came back at 4 to wash my car in the driveway. I sworn I turned everything off as my family came home around 6 pm and told me I left my lights on. what the hell
I don't get how this vid can be called trouble shooting if you didn't look on what was causing the problem. It only a 7:53minute vid on how to remove a fuse.
I have the 01 PT Limited, & the fog light issue like how yours is, was the same on my car. Turned out to be a bad ground wire under the car. For some weird reason, Chysler put the plugs on the bottom of the airdam (aka the black plastic lip under the radiator) right where they could get whacked, &/or wet. I replaced the ground wire plug assembly & never had the problem since. I also have the 5spd version. There's no rev limited on the standard trannys that I can find. Only the autos.
i kind of laughed when you knew the battery was dead and u still tried to start it..only problem i have really seen is the bearings fall out of the ignition switch leaving you stranded in a pos...still better than some cars but i like sports/trucks not compact gocart type deals
You'll need a new battery if you 100% discharged it several times. Also it is better to ground to the body vs the battery anyway. True Chrysler quality is pretty poor.
Those fog lights are screwed. Your right, Its weird. you cant ground it. When it comes to battery charging, the PT is screwed. I kind of like how ti sounds, not a lot
Pull fuse for foglights, leave turn signal at left turn when shutoff. Later replace headlight or multi function switch from Rockauto Airtex 1s2129 (they have pic of part) about $53. Disconnect + battery cable. then two screws to remove shroud around switch, unplug connectors 2 on left, one on right, two screws to remove entirely.Split turn signal from windshield wiper stalk(they are attached in middle with two torx screws), attach wiper stock to new turn switch with torx .Reinstall DFW
switch in my 01 limited edition cruiser and my wife's 05 convertible gt high output turbo cruiser both went bad ya gotta pull the fuse so your battery doesn't get drained...If you notice you hooked the jumper to the negative connection it is funny because they both went bad about 4 years
switch in my cruiser and my wife's cruiser both went bad ya gotta pull the fuse so your battery doesn't get drained...If you notice you hooked the jumper to the negative connection
i have the same issue open up your fuses under neath the left side of the steering wheel then look at the cover and find the one that says fog lights and pull it out and they wont come on its something from wear and tear
My grandfather's 2004 PT Limited does the same thing, except when he leaves the turn signal switch in the left turn signal mode when he turns off the car, then they stay off. I know you probably sold it, but just saying to try that the next time you may have a similar issue. :)
i have the same problem with my 2003 pt cruiser, the fog lignts ran the battery dead , i jumped the battery and now i cant seem to turn them on at all but the fuse is good , weird hein ?
I had that same problem I just replaced the fog Steering wheel lights Control switch cost $89 for it easy to do but the box connectors are fragile and brake easy.
a quick solution to the battery drain is to remove the fuse. on pt's it normally the switch (multifunction) that causes the fog's to come on randomly. Fed up fitting them now, 8 years as a master tech.
i have a probelm any that might help me i took the motor out on my pt cruiser i rebuild it and when i put it back i accidently connected the ingition coils wires to the caqmshaft sensor and the cams to the ingnition coil and now i dont get a spark in the sparkplugs now that i got it right can some one tell me wat happend or wat to check thnxz
i had the same problem, it could be the multi function switch that sits on top of the steering column, costs about 90$ through the dealership, but you should take it off and check the connection where the wiring harness connects to the switch, mine was slightly melted and was causing a bad connection, hope this helps :), good luck
Did you ever figure out what the problem was with the fog lights? My gf's PT Cruiser was having the same problem, I pulled the fuse as well, and unplugged the bulbs... Let me know what you figured out or what the mechanic told you they had to do to fix it! PLEASE! and thanks :)
If you put the car into neutral and rev it, it shouldn't hit the 3500 rpm redline because it should only do it in park. haha "There's those stupid lights again!!" haha You don't have much luck with chrysler products do you? :) We are luck we didn't get this car. Nice vid, two thumbs up :)
