@classicphile It's not a time capsule of a more innocent era. It's a time capsule about how delusional people were at the time that it was a more innocent era. Life was a dead end for everyone; African Americans, Women of every colour, even white men were boxed into stereotypes from which there was no escape. Every man had a wife, every wife had a child, and every child had a baseball bat or baby doll, depending on gender (only). If you didn't, you might be run out of town with a stick.
@musicalluv454 Not at all so long as you live over the rainbow on lollipop lane in gumbdrop valley near the lemonade river of magic charms and take long strolls down pepeermint lane under chocolate kiss trees I'd say you are totally grounded in reality and don't set you standards high at all.
@musicalluv454 Not so long as you live over the rainbow on lollipop lane near the lemonade river and take long strolls down peppermint grove in the magical valley of gumbdrop falls....I would say your standards are gounded in reality if you do.
@Howaboutno2007 That is an outrageous statement to make about a charming, innocent film from a bygone era. You know goddamn well he and Alex only jacked each other off back then!
In 1983-87 I was in high school. One day in class, for reasons I dont know or recall, they rolled in the school 16mm movie projector and played a few of these old 1950s Coronet films on how to date, how to be polite, etc. My classmates laughed through them. The wooden acting, the squeaky clean activities, the over politeness, the innocent slang used at the time (gee, golly, etc). I on the other hand wasnt laughing. I found these films to be quite charming. A time capsule of a more innocent era.
@classicphile I know what you mean! I saw this in school as well and at first I had every intention of only making fun of it but then I found myself finding the whole thing charming and endearing! LOL It is certainly a representation of a more innocent and simple time.
Because Mary and Jeff were common names back in the 50's. There were no Josh's, Zack's, Brittanys, Kaylas. Kaylees, or Ashleys back in the 50's.
