My 1993 Tempo GL with the 2.3 4cyl only has the 85mph speedometer too. I used a GPS that agreed with the speedometer; until it passed 85 where the GPS then showed the speed passing 90, 95, 100 until I finally backed off at 101mph. The highway was pretty much deserted and this was only done on a slight uphill with NO OTHER CARS in sight. I backed off when I began to catch up with traffic (all doing in excess of 80mph.. not that it excuses me or them.)
it is possible but thats not the top speed. i had a probe pacing my and i got up to 115 mph, course mines slightly modified. you can tell when its over 100 when it takes the needle a while to start going back down.
@89Tempsport maybe once the needle goes all the way down thats when it starts bouncing off the bottom of the panel, and you keep going faster, beats me. all i know is my probes speedo actually goes to 120 and has 120 on the cluster lol
@Z3CHYD A lot more than 90 mph. I out ran a 2003 Monte Carlo with my '91 Tempo GLS 4cyl 5-speed. It was A LOT faster than 90 topped out, more like 125 or 130.
hahahaha...the good ol' tempo...my 1992 stock 5-speed manual 2.3 ford tempo got above 110 mph...excelent handling of that car at that speed...and my car is by far the best car i've ever driven...
lmao, as a tempo owner yes..the temp gauge dose work but never goes over cold haha, also i love how mine is a manual and no tach, but his is auto and has a tach...lol
that motor is so tough i couldn't kill mine and i hit was hiting the rev limit 1-2 times a day and came close to it ever shift :D that car was so good to me put up with my crap for 3 years(still runs) (wish mine had a tach(2 door 90 gl))
thanks man, i trusted that car with my life, especially with all the close calls that i had in it. the car hugged the road really well, especially with the wider wheels that i put on it.

@89Tempsport i have to say i think you may only be doing 100 max. my tempo can kill the speedometer in 7 seconds. so to have it fall that fast and not have the proff to back it i say u didn't push it as hard as you could of...not saying it wouldent though.

@Z3CHYD Wrong. I had my friend in his RX7 clocking me in his car. He said he was up to 120 and my car was barely creeping away from his car.
