Ponting, Paine, Hilfy, Doherty, and Geeves all have represented Australia from Tassie in the last two years or so. Amazing for such a small state. Then you have players like Wade, Bailey, Butterworth, and Faulkner who could represent Australia at some point in the future too. If Tasmania had its own team at national level, it would actually be pretty competitive. Awesome for a state of only 500 000 people.
yeah he certainly is a legend.......his 209 was certainly a classic innings....please check out my latest video of Michael Clarke and Ricky Ponting leaving Bellerive Oval after Day 4 of the Test Match
its a funny thing that Tasmania with such a small population has arguably produced one of the greatest batsmen of the modern era.....ME......well maybe not me.....but i must come a close second to Ricky Ponting......
And throw in Ben Hilfenhous whose bowling very well atm and Tim Paine who could very well be Australias next Wicket Keeper...certainly in the One Dayers...Shane Watson who got his start in Tasmania as Australias No 1 allrounder.....
It's great to have a sport you are passionate about; a season to look forward to, conversations with friends about a game or the team in general and just the pride in a local team trying their best.
cricket players dress differently according to what type of match they are playing...in Test matches thye wear the traditional whites..but in One Day Matches or in 20/20 matches they dress more colourfully....
Wow that guy at the start batting is a lil ordinary! They need to get Punta back into the squad for a few games, then Tassie will be back on the map haha :)
Everyone knows Tasmania rules....well maybe not rule....i might have got a bit carried away there........now normally we dont encourage too many Victorian spies......coz you might get to see how we get to be so awesome.....
Yeah unfortunately we dont get a real lot of people to state v state matches in cricket......except in the 20/20 matches or One day Internationals or Test matches but this was taken early in the day and the crowd did build up a bit...but Bellerive is such a nice ground in such a scenic location and has such a nice atmosphere...that its still nice being there and enjoying the cricket even if there aren't too many other people there...
oh you say all the nicest things.....i really would like to get a better one tho.......i just cant afford it......and i cant sell Ben.....its in his contract.......im just joking.........nah hes worth more than a million cameras....
Fast-bowler Ben Hilfenhaus was included in the national squad for the 2007 ICC World Twenty20 and a tour of India, before making his test cricket debut in South Africa in 2009. During the 2009 Ashes series, wicket-keeper Tim Paine was called into the squad as a late replacement for injured reserve wicket-keeper Graham Manou.
Tasmania's recent successes at domestic level have been reflected in selection for the Australian national cricket team. Spinner Jason Krejza played two tests on the back of solid performances for the state, but failed to impress at international level. Brett Geeves was selected in the one-day international squad for 2008, and has since gone on to also play in the Indian Premier League.
Tasmania has produced two of the greats of Australian test Cricket...David Boon and the current Australian Test Captain Ricky Ponting...... both Tasmanian.... and both proud of it
The Tigers have fared even better in the Ford Ranger Cup, winning it three times in 1978-79, 2004-05 and 2007-08. They have also been runners-up twice in 1977-78, and 1986-87. The Tigers were also unlucky to finish as runners-up in the second season of the Australian domestic Twenty20 KFC Twenty20 Big Bash competition in 2006-07
The Tasmanian Cricket team continue to remain competitive in all forms of the Australian domestic game, and in 2006-07 were successful in claiming their first ever Sheffield Shield title. The Tigers have also qualified for the final on three other occasions in 1993-94, 1997-98, and 2001-02, but at the time were unable to win the title...... but won it in 2006-07
