Here's the real correction, the Austronesian people share a common heritage as well as DNA throughout all the islands from Madagascar to Hawai'i. It wasn't until 1756 that Charles de Brosses coined the term "Polynesian" that there was even a concept or "borders" amongst the islanders. And it wasnt till the "great nations" of the world started grabbing up islands and carving them into territories that Oceania was divided into the state of foreign ignorance that the world knows of it today.

The only polynesian people living in Fiji are the South most islands, Lau group and Rotumans (Tongans ancestors)

The have three major goups , Polynesian, Melanesians and Micronesian

Melanesians are Fiji Solomons Island, PNG ,Vanuatu, Kanaks from New Caledonia n others

Polynesians are Samoans, Tongans, Cook Island,Tahiti, Hawaii n others

Micronesians are the FSM, Palau, Truk, Kiribati n others....
