Is this Rufus first album? How old is Chaka during these recordings? She sounds young but her voice is just so POWERFUL. Just wondering. If anybody knows
So beautiful...memories of teenage wonder and inspiration at the magic of this music, put me on track to a life in music, thanks so much for making this available to hear and remember a gain, celestial music!!! xxx
A Bad Song!!! (Meaning Good.) For 1974. Super Cool.! These dummies today, got no style, class or integerty They dont even know or care what the word" Integrity" means. Hopefully I'm Wrong.... Thank You.
the definitive version of Mr Womacks classic and off one of the soul albums of the 70's and any other era. Chaka never sounded better, thanks for a great post.
One of the greatest voices in the business! Loved Chaka and Rufus back then! I had all of her albums and I mean all of them! What a legend she is! I also like Bobby Womack's version of this as well! I grew up with Chaka Khan and just loved her style and VOICE! She can still outsing anybody today!
Wow, Rolling Stone panned this album? The reviewer must have procured a bad batch of dope. Please Pardon Me and Stop On By were each worth the cost of the entire album.
@GeneralTroursers Wow, speaking for all the youtube viewers huh?! Just trying to thank xfunkster. I detect some jealousy and ignorance mixed with that sarcasm. Chaka's, Clare's and Rufus' music will be forever…so...hate on.
It's nice to see you include the musicians names. It is rare to see the great arranger Clare Fischer's name shown. He has arranged so many great r n b songs and at one time worked almost exclusively with black acts, but most r n b fans don't know who he is...the Jacksons' You push me away, Atlantic Starr's Secret Lovers, Rufus & Chaka, Prince, remember the song The Screams of Passion, probably can't remember the band's name...but those strings are Fischer's...He's in his 80's now!
@swaregirl I was clueless too. I was doing some research about 70's music and sort of stumbled upon his name. Found out, he's pretty incredible. To have soooo many of his arrangements swirling in my mind and not know who he is, shameful.
@kkj1966, I just read the Wiki page on Clare Fischer. That last name stuck in my head because I had heard it before in relation to Rufus. I just read that Andre' Fisher, the drummer for Rufus is his brother. CF is something else. He arranged for Donald Byrd? Wow. And Prince, Sergio Mendes, Debarge, The Jacksons. I'm floored.
@swaregirl , I know Andre Fischer has a brother named Eric whom I met along time ago because my dad used to be a musician and had connections with meeting other musicians and singers including Chaka Kahn!!
54cookie I do agree with you about the masterful vocal gymnastics that Chaka is blessed with, all of that super soul in her voice to me she sits in a class all by herself, she has such a unique vocal dynamic.
I love Bobby Watson on bass on this ......he lays it down deep.....he is truly an underated talent, along with Paul Denman...the ones who play for the song own the groove.....
I think Rufusized was probably one of the best RB/Soul/Funk, albums of its time. The music is timeless and till this day young people are paying tribute to these songs.
Jim Miller clearly didn't know what he was talking about. We really didn't care what
You learn something new everyday, Chaka sang this first in 74, Bobby included iton his I CAN UNDERSTAND IT album in 75. Unfortunately for Chaka, he made that song his when he sang it.
@willowseeker You are so correct. I've got that double album on vinyl. Awesome live recording. I saw them back in 2001, I think, @ Chastain Amph in the ATL . Chaka's vocals were incredibly good.
Rufusized helped me get through a very miserable time in my life. I got through it with sweet thing, what you gonna do for me, through the fire and you know what I mean, her music just always seem toput me in a better space. The strong soufulness inspired me to get up and find me an everlasting love to stay. I love her and thank her for blessing us with her gift. and thank you for posting this. Live on Queen Chaka
@54cookie1 That's what good music & fantastic artists can do you. Through their music, you can be uplifted & a desire to move forward is placed in your heart & mind. Good music can make you feel better in an instant. Sometimes you feel like the song was written for you because it expresses all that you think but cannot put to words. Music is a healing tool because it goes deep inside you & wakes up all the good that dwells deep down. Amen to good music & artists.
@DJBOSSCHIC4LIFE very well put......dam i thought I was the only one who seen that about music....
meaning the music and the artist.........i highly recommend ohio players i want to be free.....or honey...or sweet sticky thing....all are a combination of good music and fantistic artists.....sugafoot and that crew could sing and harmonize...trust me.....if you like rufus and chaka...youll like ohio players and suga foot
@omardarlene, Let's Love, Heaven Must Be Like This, Honey, wow, they don't make them like this anymore. I just saw the Unsung segment on the Ohio Players earlier this week. Very interesting and it is online.
@54cookie1 i thought i was the only one who felt that way about chaka......ALL her stuff with rufus is nothing
but the truth....i love her and your right ....she is BLESSING her with that gift she has......always will be my ALLTIME FAVORITE female vocalist......miss rufus tho....the band suit her PERFECTLY ...they made good music.....it was a combination that was beutiful
I've loved this since I first heard it in 1974...fabulous Chaka Khan.

My band opened for Rufus in Atlanta in 1974. They were all so nice and complimentary, and they tore the house down.
