The Earths magnetic field at ground level is extremely small , about 0.3 gauss.
A compass therefore must be extremely sensitive to very weak magnetic fields.
A radio transmitters antenna radiates RF energy which is an electromagnetic field.
The electromagnetic field affects the reading on the compass.
You don't need a strong field to do this.
Fitting instructions for boat compasses always warn about the errors caused by nearby magnetic fields from radios.
