  • Wish there was a way could save the MV lamp

  • The Amount of Mercury in one Fluorescent Lamp...or this Mercury Vapor lamp isnt that much, its unlikely that you'll get sick if you break it...however that Thermostat is another story....i guarentee id that Breaks and Spills your house will need to be Quarentined......we just replaced the thermostat in our house with a Mercury Free one.........also Mercury Vapor is Present in all Other HID Lamps..so its not just Mercury Vapor Lamps...Mercury is essiental to the opperation of those lamps.

  • Save the MV bulb!!!

There is nothing wrong with the MV bulb, and yes a thermostat has more mercury then a MV bulb people!

  • Don't even attempt to look at the mercury..... it will kill you through the glass.

Sarcasm aside, one of my favorite elements (as is Ununpentium).

  • Dave, ya did it again! You are soo right! Folks just way over react to this whole mercury scare, yet something like a mere household thermostat has GOBS more mercury than a 175W merc as you have proven. Guess it goes to prove that this whole mercury scare is all bogus. Stupid politics anyway! 175W mercs rock on!

  • Hmm...interesting that thermostats don't have a giganting (Hg) label on them. Furthermore, people are pinheads, because they believe everything they hear. Modern discharge lamps have so little mercury in them as to almost render them barely usable. People literally freak if a fluorescent tube breaks near them. What about if you break a thermometer? That's ten times worse. Should the government ban thermometers, too? I don't see any thermometers with a huge (Hg) label on them either.

  • Good video!

    I made some calculations:

According to the Philips datasheet, their 175 W MV lamp has 26 mg of mercury. Taking into account the rated life of 24 000 hours is 4 times longer than the 6000 hours for many CFLs, thats 26 / 4 = 6,5 mg of mercury per lamp per 6000 hours which is about the same as for CFLs.

Also, since many MV lamps are used in streetlighting and other professional applications, they are more likely to be disposed of properly than CFLs, which people can throw in the garbage

  • thanks ! i need to show this vid to my freand. i showed him my 175 mercury vaper light and he weant all nuts on me lol like am going to kill my self lol
