  • I was waiting for "OnStar, we see that you are travelling at a high rate of speed..are you in need of emergency assistance?"

  • 11, 8+ minute Mustang fanboys watched this...

  • Coulda use some HD with that, there.

  • nice drive and i love watching them, but i always take these nurburg runs with a grain of salt, yes it looks impressive, but......we see all these car runs from different company's,and many of them have a team of technicians tweaking stuff, changing things for hours, days, possibly weeks in some cases. if they pulled a stock vehicle off the production line checked the oil and tyres and did a run with the same results .........now that would be impressive !!!

  • it got 173 for like 1 sec. at 7min 35sec. that is just crazy

  • 11 people bought Prius's . . . .

  • With a better driver, this lap could probably be in the low 30's.

  • I wonder how many dicks do I have to suck to get the new 2012 Camaro ZL1. By the way I'm a guy but, don't judge me.

  • awesome track- great driver

  • GM's North American president, Mark Reuss, has confirmed a Nürburgring-Nordschleife lap time of 7 minutes and 41.27 seconds for the 2012 Camaro ZL1.

That time on the full-length, 20.832 km (12.944 miles), of the Nürburgring-Nordschleife circuit beats out such track performers as the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG and the BMW M3 GTS - putting the ZL1 in solid supercar territory. (Most lap times are measured on the 20.6 km stretch of the track, stopping 200 meters short of the end.)

  • Isn't the 2014 Stang getting a new suspension? The 2013 gt500 will probably outperform this due to it's insane amount of horsepower and decent handling, but I'd rather see the Mustang outperform in the bends too. A win's a win I guess. This is definitely fast though.

  • when you really think about it, all the fuss over lap times is mostly bogus. Sure it shows if a car can perform at higher levels but the times themselves are a misnomer. A drivers time is never the best time possible, Track conditions weather vehicle/driver conditions all change. A slight mistake on one turn could easily knock a second off, or even add a second. On average i would say every standing lap time has at least a 3 to 4 mabie even 5 second window of improvement.

  • Remember unlike full blooded race car drivers in cars with roll cages and added protection, these drivers are not exactly trying to kill themselves. so theyre pushing hard but not to the jagged edge. Also the end result of owning vehicles able to achieve such times often means its suspension is unbearable on common road. (trust me i know) We all love race cars but the fact is we never take into account what a race car really is.

  • and what did ford do about it?

ohhh, just a 600+ hp mustang for 2013

  • @lolzmastur You forgot to mention: 600hp with an inferior suspension system. The 2013 GT500 was run at Nurburgring, you'd have to ask Ford why they don't release the time...

Both platforms benefit from the competition. Hopefully that translates into more hp for the Camaro and better suspension for the Mustang.

  • @GatorsUSMC people love to call Ford's solid rear axle inferior... but whenever the Mustang, Camaro and Challenger get matched up the Mustang gets praised for outperforming independent rear suspensions. Don't judge based off what it is, judge it based on how it performs.

Looks how the BOSS matches up to the M3, R8, etc... if it works it works.

  • @GatorsUSMC The live rear axle in the newer mustangs is by no means inferior. Why change something that works? and weighs much less... And don't say it doesn't work when the Boss 302 just stomped the M3 at LS. At the end of the day, the Camaro will be a smoother ride, but who buys these cars for a smooth ride?

  • I saw 172mph on the straight, that's a blazing fast car.

  • god these things are badass. Who would of ever thought we'd see a camaro with 580 HP. Chevy :)

  • how much hp it have?

  • Chevrolet finally gave the public what they want. A Camaro with world class capability. Go Team Chevy. Camaro Rules!

  • People are always going to pound on American cars but lets look at the numbers right now. The ZL1 beat the M3 at Nurburgring. Just sayin.

  • Wow

  • i dont think there is even a need to test the 2013 gt500 with the zl1. if the zl1 came out on top i would be shocked live axle or irs the gt500 is gonna be a monster

  • @ericlathamable it won't run a road course like that though. live axle is for the 1/4 mile. not that it won't handle well. but those uneven hills and curves bounce them around. makes for a tense drive.

  • @nate1590 was talking about the GT500, answering someone else.

  • Finally at last!

America's built a MUSCLE car that can also take corners with impressive finesse.

  • @flurry Actually and truthfully, it's made in Canada, so it's a Canadian muscle car

  • @tytanfamily does that make Buick Asian?

  • @jhowe67 No because all North American Buicks are either assembled in Canada or in the USA.

  • @flurry and it only took us 45 years:)

  • If they give this to Top Gear, they'd still complain about the interior and all that nonsense.

  • @100littlecurses

"Say, what was the interior like?"

"What interior is this you speak of?"

  • @100littlecurses AND they'd point out that its build on a Holden chassis, so that they have an excuse for its handling being decent, but neglect to mention that Holden IS part of GM. Richard would like it, James would continue to complain about the Nurburgring being the work of satan, and Jeremy would say It's a good car, if you're 600 lbs and fornicate with farm animals.

  • @100littlecurses And james would complaine about the ride XD

  • @100littlecurses damn right

  • @100littlecurses Jeremy Clarkson would probably complain that it isn't a fucking jag, so therefore it isn't good. hahaha

  • @PGROSYE02 Or compare it to a car that cost nearly three times as much, like they did with the SS and the E63 AMG.

  • @TheDonkyPuncher --newer benzes are GARBAGE

  • @HIVisaLIE I wouldn't go that far, they are great cars, but comparing it to a car that doesn't even cost a third of it hardly seems fair.

  • @PGROSYE02 -jags suck azz

  • Comment removed

  • @100littlecurses All the nonsense witch is important

  • @100littlecurses but probably still more favorably than any other american car, lol

  • I'd hope it'd be quicker than an M3, since it's got 180 more horses then an M3.

  • 10 Porsche and BMW drivers disliked it!

  • 7:02 to 7:35. I came in my pants.

  • How is the camaro's looks outdated wtf?? The retro mustangs have been out longer. I smell biased BS

  • why do GM guys claim FORD is the one thats behind? The mustansg kill Camaros these days, and I find it funny that GM Started supercharging there cars like ford does, I dont know how many videos Ive seen on here with GM nutjobs crying about getting spanked by a mustang with a supercharger, pshhhh well now GM has the cts-v, ZR1, and now the ZL1, all supercharged, looks like GM picked up a copy of FORDS book

  • @afgandominator: The reason why that is. Is because GM refuses to dump the pushrod engine. Where as Ford builds nothing but OHC engines. What that means is more HP per liter. In the future, GM is gonna end up using more superchargers and turbos than Ford is unless GM change their stubborn ways.

  • @V8Supercar1 engine design has nothing to do with it, marketing and competition do though. GM used to turbo/supercharge the 3800 V6 like it was going out of style, not because they didn't have enough power, but because they wanted to use a V6 and still get V8 performance.

GM will continue to use the OHV design, until an OHC design comes around that has the same physical size as it's equal OHV counterpart. I wish I could find a picture, because it's incredible how huge Ford's engine's are.

  • @camargo2012 Why would they be mad?

  • I mean Grand Turismo.

  • Just like Grand Tirismo.

  • just to pint it out: LAMBORGHINI MURCIELAGO LP-670 DID IT ON 7:42!!!!

    U MAD EUROPEAN CAR MAKERS?

  • Why did they start it at speed and not at a stop?

  • Only 8 mph slower than a ZR1 on that straight away too! Damn this car is legit

  • 170 MPH !!!! at 7:34 that is fast for a mass produced car!!!!!!

  • The 2013 GT500 will need a 'part 2' video ROFL

  • That dude is a boss

  • Also, the driver handles the corner at 06:55 like a boss.

  • True that. The pony car is not about small size. The pony car is about ponying around you, your friends, and your stuff, albeit really fast :D

  • Faster than M3? Impressive

  • @McFly2015AD I said the exact same thing before I read your comment

  • @McFly2015AD It has much more power than an M3

  • @McFly2015AD Well that M3 was tested by Sport Auto, which achieved a time of 7:38 in a ZR1 which I don't think you agree with, so I think that BMW's can be improved.

  • @McFly2015AD Don't get it the wrong way I am impressed of the performance of the ZL1, I am glad that this car now had the performance to match it's superhero status.

  • @McFly2015AD what do you expect? this car has 580 horsepower

  • @McFly2015AD faster than ZR1

  • @GH0192837465 WTH?! The ZL1 will weigh around 4200 lbs and still be 40HP shy of the ZR1. Competition for Shelby GT500. sure. Faster than ZR1?! U must be smokin somethin.

  • Comment removed

  • @ajutube2011 The "as-tested" weight of the ZL1 (MotorTrend) was 4020 lbs..not too bad when you consider how much new stuff is on the vehicle.

  • @McFly2015AD Why impressive? The E92 M3 only had a little 4.0L NA V8. Would you like to install a 550-600HP 6.2L V8 into the M3 and rerun the comparison?

  • Wow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Lets see, For 60,000 dollars I can jump a Ford F150 Raptor, or drive around the Nürburgring in 7:41! I think I will take ZL1 and the ring! ZL1 is one step below ZR1!

  • fuck newt, righton Camaro

  • Ahhh, Lazy V8(((

Not as fast as i expected on the straight it did about 172 mph( lame

  • @TheBronx1313 ik it looked like it ran out of breath and just stopped pulling

  • @TheBronx1313 Stop hating.

    Check Wikipedia List_of_Nürburgring_Nordschleife_lap_times

  • Im having lunch with aaron link tomorrow

  • The mustang often gets the short end of the stick but without the mustang there never would have been a camaro. And the old original 5.0 reignited the whole sports car segment that was dead as a doornail. GM Always tries to one-up Ford but never makes the initial move, theyre always johhny-come-lately even if they do something a bit better, its always after the fact. Thats why i cant stand GM or chevy, they need to be original for once. And it was the mustang that keep the segment alive.

  • I want both companies to improve, And axe the whole Ford vs Chevy junk. Sure i love that its resulted in more powerfull cars, and the age of 5hp per model year stuff is over. but they both gota focus on the real competition. stuff like the GTR which is really where mustangs and camaros performance margins SHOULD be at. The camaro ring run is decent, but the car is still to big and bulky Like the mustang. they both need to trim down and get lighter. They both need work regardless.

  • @xevious2501 If the Camaro were to get to Mustang weight with IRS it would run 7:31 instead of 41. However unlike the Mustang the Camaro has a bigger brother in the Corvette. The Mustang's top is unlimited mainly because Ford doesn't have a reason to stop, while the Corvette needs to stay the Corvette. Right now the ZL1 is more car than a Grand Sport for less money. The Camaro is basically stuck until the C7 Vette's are a couple years into production.

  • @xevious2501 Camaro's and Mustangs are not about being light, they are supposed to look bulky. if you look in past generations there were mustangs and camaro's that were smaller and lighter and they are ugly as hell.

  • 7:01 Audi billboard

  • yo this driver must be having mad fun and this is automatic if so AMERICAN cars=FAIL

  • @AlboThuggaa Are you blind, or just dimwitted? You see how his right hand moves off the wheel and down to the center console every time the gears change?

  • My second favorite car in the world

  • Wow! Car looks very solid through the turns! Must be a blast to drive. Glad GM took the time to make this more than just a straight line monster.

  • @AdverbAdjective Your link doesn't work...

  • Now In the world did this beat the SLS?

  • Why do they have what gear the car is in blocked on the dash?

  • It's hard to even comprehend the skill required to make a car dance like this around the nurburgring. I watch these videos to see the drivers at work....and for the symphony of exhaust noise....

  • It will never be able to out run ugly.

  • I want this guy job

  • 170 mph like woooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

  • Its all about how deep your pockets are. Any car can be made quicker than the next.

  • That thing is as nasty as fingering your daughter and finding your fathers wedding ring in her pussy

  • @GrainedCone063 go listen to dubstep you 14 year boy

  • That straight away takes my breath away...everytime.

  • my dad has the 2010 camaro...the v6 one. should we trade it in for the ss or the zl1?

  • @irokatcod4 ZL1..More Power

  • @805MustangKilla i already asked him...he doesnt like the look

  • @irokatcod4 Get a inferno orange with white racing stripes SS, trust me, i have one and everybody loves it.

  • @tiestoXIV my dad likes silver. all he wants is the same thing as we already have but ss

  • @irokatcod4 why not get the ZL1? the new badA on the block

  • @irokatcod4 ZL1!!

  • @96SUPERNOVA69 Well welcome home then. no big deal just simple mistake, just talkin tech.

  • GM has 4 different cars on the Nurburgring top times list under 8 minutes. (Vette ZR1, Vette Z06, Camaro ZL1, Caddy CTS-V) That's pretty damn good.

  • @Drpepper687 five, if you count the C5 Z06

  • @Drpepper687 im pretty sure the Grand sport vette could do it in the 7:40-7:50s as well.

  • @Drpepper687 Yeah man, that is very good. As much as I love the viper and the ford gt.. dodge and ford are a little behind in the performance category.

  • Ugly? Dude, people drool over my 2011 camaro SS and the ZL1 looks even nastier. Oh I see the problem, your head is up ur @ss.

  • Sure it can lap the ring quickly...but MY GOD IT IS UGLY.

Just my opinion, don't get your panties in a knot.

  • 172 Miles per hour at the end of the straight. Not bad.

  • Looks like she handles like a dream :)

  • holy shit!! this is faster than most lamborghinis, audi R8 and porsches!! O.O

  • when will you idiots learn, its the driver not the car? the car isnt going to pull an 8 minute lap by itself.. none of you morons bitching could make 10 minutes in this very same car. that i can promise.

  • @96SUPERNOVA69 No, they put the 6.2 litre LSA motor out of the CTS-V in the ZL1. They also put the magnetic ride control shared by both the ZR1 and CTS-V in the ZL1.

  • @96SUPERNOVA69 Sry bud but the motor in the camaro is the 6.2 litre out of the zr1 and cts-v just tuned a little different. please do some research next time first.

  • nigga dats one muda fucking sexy ass fucking bitch...shit!

  • take some sound insulation out lets here the V8!

  • 172mph, not bad at all..

  • fuck these cars are nice and the corvettes engine should be put in the camaro but fuck this car flys

  • ZR1 is a 6.2 supercharged motor...reliability issues with a 7.0 and supercharger would have given the car a bad rep...

  • @CMurda1985SS What reliability issues? the LS7 is a dry sump 426ci small block with titanium internals designed to take 7,000+ rpm. Just like jaremy clarkson said "This car belongs on a race track, Not the street"

  • @Moneyz28 are you just a internet researcher or have you actually even owned and built an LS moored car? The LS7 is a great NA motor...that's it! Titanium rods don't do shit with a boosted motor they are titanium for the strength to weight ratio which therefor allow this motor to the past 7k rpm.

  • @Money28 Either way, the internals aren't the obly weak point...the fact that the cylinder walls are to thin and lined with basic ductile iron sleeves which would be a ticking time bomb from the manufacturers view...LS7 werenot meant for boost you would have to resleeve the block with a more expensive material which would run production costs sky high which chevy doesn't want to do when they can use their readily accessible 6.2...

  • @CMurda1985SS Why actually yes im on my third personal ls build, but have done several others, ill show ya some pictures if ya want. But o yea where was i? ITS the ratio of strength and FATIGUE life to weight* As far as rod strength is concerned i hate to bring up the internet but why dont you check out katech engineerings race engines all LS7s but one which makes 1000+ hp run STOCK RODS, i know this, im a good customer of theres and im always checkin out there engines.

  • @Moneyz28 aftermarket companies can do that stuff all day, be you and me both know how stretched the bore is on that 427 small block and GM said themselves that they went with the 6.2 for reliability issues. but that isnt ur average 6.2 it has been heavily reinforced extensively with all kinds of upgrades on the structure of the standard 6.2 LS3. keep in mind, they have to put a warranty on these things and thats one of their bragging points 5yr-100K even on vettes, whats the porsche? 3yr-36K?

  • Now all the pricks that say American cars are ONLY fast in a straight line can blow it out their ass!

  • VERY impressive lap, especially compared to the bogus Cadillac CSV "record" lap that was claimed on their website but wasn't documented with full video. The ZL1 moved around a lot on its suspension--must be pretty heavy. But it got to 172 MPH (on a slight downhill), which is 1 MPH short of a 1970s Ferrari Daytona top speed of 173 MPH on the level. But still a very impressive lap around this very tough track. Hope it helps put the General back in the musclecar business.

  • Just to rectify I know the Camaro has a very long and extensive history but the Camaro was shut down for a few years and the GTO was resurrected! The new SS pretty much had the same motor as the goat! Now this ZL1 caught my eye!

  • My love for the Camaro is it proceeds the GTO that sadly died to quick! (ex owner 06 GTO)

  • o potencia

  • @Mygta123/HazardPayProduction ditto. American muscle all the way. I love all 3 but will always be a Camaro guy. Plus what I love the most is how the tech is making them more than the old-school straight line drives. You can take 'em to the tracks and pull off some nice times these days.

  • Looks so enjoyable to drive. I'm bout to work three jobs to own one of these.

  • @CGKillerPollo Remember Ford people. Ford GT costs over 150 grand. ZL1 will cost $54,000. If you want to bring the GT into this, then let's compare that to the Corvette ZR1.

  • @TheSteveDallas Yeah, you could do that. But why would you compare a car that was developed 8 years ago, to a car that's only a couple years old..

  • @viperGT55 Probably because Ford hasn't come out with anything similar or super fast over that you -can- compare it to. They are coming out with the answer to the ZL1 in 2013, and the numbers do look better, though we'll have to see 1) how much it costs and 2) track times, when it does come out. 650 horsepower sounds nice, but will it be the complete car the ZL1 is. And, again...even if the 2013 Shelby is faster, it still won't be faster than the Corvette ZR1.

  • @TheSteveDallas: Yeah thats true. But Corvettes and mustangs are not comparable. They are not in the same class. One is a 2 seat light weight supercar. And the other is a 4 seat muscle car. And according to Car And Driver. The 2013 GT500 comes out this May. And its got a lot of upgrades over the last GT500. Its got launch control, adjustable dampers with the push of a button, adjustable trac control settings, the aerodynamics have been increased, and a small rear spoiler.

  • @TheSteveDallas Why bother bringing the ZR1 up when the ZL1 beat the Ford GT at the Ring for 1/3 the price?

  • @TheBulldawg4life I only bring it up because the Ford fanatics are crowing about how the new 2013 Shelby GT500 will blow away the ZL1. We'll see, as it isn't even a reality yet. This 2013 GT500 is going to be the top of the line car for Ford...and yet it will come nowhere near what the Corvette ZR1 is. That's my point...no matter how hard Ford tries, they still are going to fail at being the best.

  • @TheSteveDallas I agree completely. Even if the 13 GT500 beats the ZL1 ,which I'm doubting happens, it's still gunna cost more than a fully loaded ZL1 ($59,269) to get the base GT500. Then to actually compete with the ZL1 you'll have to add the SVT Performance Pack, and that runs $4k on the 2012, I'd expect more on the 13.

  • @TheBulldawg4life I loooove Mustangs. But the GT500 ain't gonna have shit on this. There's only so much that can be done with a live rear axle.

  • @jharrypot2004 Agreed. The Mustang has pretty much reached it's peak, and the only way they'll improve on it is to do major changes for the chassis.

  • @TheBulldawg4life Absolutely. I mean it looks totally fantastic, and the performance is decent and it will drag very well, but they definitely need to do some work to the suspension if they want to be able to compete.

  • @jharrypot2004 I think you mentioned the main point though. Drag racing. Ford has become target fixated on the drag strip, and are only just now starting to care about race tracks. I think with the next generation of Mustang (and IRS) we'll see the Mustang and Ford walk away from drag racing a bit and head to the twisties.

  • @TheBulldawg4life I agree. I mean they proved they could make a good car that handled very well with the GT. So its not like they can't do it. I think they're just waiting to shift from being drag to track oriented. Like you said, they've become fixated on the drag strip, especially with the 302 Laguna Seca models and whatnot.

  • @jharrypot2004 The LS is really made for track use, ie. Laguna Seca. it's a much lighter and better balanced than a GT500..and has the same tires. It's also got a much higher rev line so it gets to use it's power better.

  • @TheBulldawg4life: The Ford GT was never competitively pushed around the Nurburgring by a Ford professional tester or driver. Just a German who did a run with other cars the track.

  • @V8Supercar1 SportAuto (German auto mag) ran the GT at the 'Ring and only managed 7:52, these are the same guys who tested the Gumpert, Ferrari's, Audi's, Porsche's, Pagani's, and basically anything else they get their hands on. They know what they're doing, and have more experience at the 'Ring than anyone Ford would've had drive the car.

  • @TheBulldawg4life: But what I'm saying to you is they never did it in perfect track conditions like GM, Nissan and Porsche is now doing. Ford never really cared about Nurburgring lap times then. No one was even advertising their car with Nurburgring lap times during that time. But that of course, is changing with Ford starting with the 2013 GT500.

  • @V8Supercar1 No one ever has "perfect" track conditions, and if they do it won't last the whole lap at the 'Ring. SportAuto get's the same treatment as everyone else including an closed track, no speed limit required, and video/timing conformation.

IF (and that's a HUGE if) Ford actually runs the GT500 at Nurburgring one of two things will happen. They'll beat the ZL1 time and publish it, or they won't beat the ZL1 and they'll never say a word about it.

  • @TheBulldawg4life: When I say perfect track conditions. I'm just talking about the ability to do your run without having to pass other cars on the track. And as for as the new GT500, they got a Nurburgring badge right on the back of the car. So they are at the point of no return. If it beats the ZL1 or not, they are gonna have to show something. Or they are gonna look really foolish.

  • @V8Supercar1 The Ford GT had a closed track, like every other vehicle SportAuto run's at the 'Ring. Ford brought those 2 cars to the 'Ring to test, and most importantly to steal spotlight from the ZL1 publishing a confirmed time. I'm not much of a magazine guy, but I'll look around online for the test. Sure it's all just speculation right now, but it's still fun lol.

  • @TheBulldawg4life: I just checked CaranddriverDOTcom and they have the complete breakdown of the new GT500 on their site.

  • @V8Supercar1 I found the breakdown, but it's nothing new. Basically the same thing they printed a year ago lol

  • @TheBulldawg4life: It just gonna be interesting to see when they start posting camparison videos between the 2 cars. I dont see why they cant do that now since they do have both cars. I guess they have to wait until both cars are officially released or something.

  • @V8Supercar1 I can pretty much tell you how the comparos will go.

GT500 looks so fresh and new, the Camaro looks old and dated.

GT500 interior is perfectly fitted and the materials are great, the Camaro looks like plastic.

GT500 will win/tie 0-60 and 1/4 mile testing, Camaro will win literally everything else.

GT500 will be declared the winner based on the opinions about the styling, while performance and value will have no merit.

  • @TheBulldawg4life: I think the GT500 will beat it around the nurburgring as well as other tracks. Its got a superior power to weight ratio advantage over the camaro. 650HP and weighs 3,850lbs. Camaro 580HP and weighs 4,120lbs. Thats C&D's results. They also stated that the GT500 is putting the power down much better than the old GT500 due to the adjustable dampers setting and the rear spoiler.
