I own a Viper and I love this video. 99.9% of the world has no idea what it feels like to drive or ride in a Viper. It is blisteringly fast. I have huge respect for what the builders of that BMW have been able to do. It is a rare day when you will see a BMW do that to a Viper. Well done.

That E30 is way quick, but regardless of all the upgrades it didn't have much of a top end, you could see at the end (and yes, before the BMW started to slow down and let off) that the viper was running it down. You can always make a car with fewer cylinders go like mad, but they will never be able to hit the higher speeds of V8's and up.
Funny thing is, at the end of the day the BMW is a hideous little box and the viper is still an awesome car. I'd rather drive a slower car that looks cool than a really fast car that looks like a cereal box.

Look at the specs on that E30... 67mm turbo putting down 550hp. That E30 weighs a fraction of the Viper and the Viper is only making 505hp at the motor... BMW are great cars, but the Viper platform is simply a better platform to build on.

@Sjamsucks my dad had an old peugeot 405 grtd (hi spec diesal) it was a 1.9 turbo diesal and has cover a 1/4 of a million miles and often saw the fun side of 100 on back roads. i'm restoring it now because the cylinder head went on it so gonna sort the body work out (18 year old car it needs a lil tlc now) any way what i'm trying to say is depends on the car and how you drive etc. i love muscle cars, but, everyone will agree that the e30 m3 is the king of the tracks.
I have liked the E30s (have owned four of them) but despite this overly modded one beating the Viper I'd still choose the Viper over it for everyday use just based off of looks and "getting you laid" factor. ☺ The E30 is too common and have a reputation for a "kid racer" car just like many Hondas I see.

Some of the exceptions include the Koenigsegg CCXR, the Bugatti Veyron, the SSC Ultimate Aero, etc. Not all super sports cars are meant to go as quickly as possible. The Viper ACR, for example, lapped the Nurburgring several seconds faster than an Enzo. If you watch GRIP's test of the normal SRT-10, you'll see the difference between the Viper and muscle cars. Granted, the Viper is hard to control - the line between understeer and oversteer is quite thin - but if you manage to control it, it's a track beast.

It doesn't have a computer that constantly adjusts the damping on each wheel -- it's a much simpler machine and that seems to increase its charm -- look at the original Viper. Even Jeremy Clarkson liked it even though it was quite primitive. As for the ACR, it spanked an Enzo around the Nurburgring.

Look at the specs on that E30... 67mm turbo putting down 550hp. That E30 weighs a fraction of the Viper and the Viper is only making 505hp at the motor... BMW are great cars, but the Viper platform is simply a better platform to build on.

@1008668006 8.4 liters with one valve per cylinder. those euro cars with 4.3 liter v8s have like 4 valves per cylinder, making it easier to boost horsepower, but euro engines dont last as long as north american ones. if that viper had 4 valves per cylinder it would have so much power the earth would spin the other way when you hit the gas

@Sjamsucks my dad had an old peugeot 405 grtd (hi spec diesal) it was a 1.9 turbo diesal and has cover a 1/4 of a million miles and often saw the fun side of 100 on back roads. i'm restoring it now because the cylinder head went on it so gonna sort the body work out (18 year old car it needs a lil tlc now) any way what i'm trying to say is depends on the car and how you drive etc. i love muscle cars, but, everyone will agree that the e30 m3 is the king of the tracks.

I have liked the E30s (have owned four of them) but despite this overly modded one beating the Viper I'd still choose the Viper over it for everyday use just based off of looks and "getting you laid" factor. ☺ The E30 is too common and have a reputation for a "kid racer" car just like many Hondas I see.

People are making arguments about engine displacement and power as if both were stock. They also seem to forget what happens when you make similar modifications to the Viper.

Some of the exceptions include the Koenigsegg CCXR, the Bugatti Veyron, the SSC Ultimate Aero, etc. Not all super sports cars are meant to go as quickly as possible. If this were true, Jason Heffner and John Hennessey would be unemployed.

Arguably, it's fantastic when you take into account how it was built. If you want the best of the best, check out the Saleen S7 and its various models, or the SSC Ultimate Aero, or even the Corvette ZR1.

@Christoo92 First of all this is not the M3. Secondly the viper is a muscle car which means it has good acceleration and no handling. I agree that in a straight line the viper (with those twin turbos) might be able to win against the m3 but on a track the viper is useless.
Lets put it this way: viper -> american engineering -> FAIL (with capital letters)
BMW -> german engineering -> those bastards know too damn well wtf they're doing...

@EnjoyTheSilenceM You were the one who mentioned the M3. The Viper is not a muscle car. The Challenger, Shelby GT500, and Camaro SS are muscle cars. The Viper ACR, for example, lapped the Nurburgring several seconds faster than an Enzo. If you watch GRIP's test of the normal SRT-10, you'll see the difference between the Viper and muscle cars. Granted, the Viper is hard to control - the line between understeer and oversteer is quite thin - but if you manage to control it, it's a track beast.

@VentoDriver I just verified it. Google "car and driver lightning lap 2008," click on the first link, scroll down to "Downloads" and click on "Lap Times Chart." That'll give you the lap times of all the cars they tested. Both the normal and ACR Vipers were tested.

@VentoDriver The M3 they tested was a 2008. The Viper also has no electronic aids. It doesn't have a computer that constantly adjusts the damping on each wheel -- it's a much simpler machine and that seems to increase its charm -- look at the original Viper. Even Jeremy Clarkson liked it even though it was quite primitive. As for the ACR, it spanked an Enzo around the Nurburgring.

Taking the data on your precious Dodge viper which in 2008 on Nürburgring had a time of 7:22:1 now I'm sure you know that that was a 2009 model with 8.4-liter 600-horsepower V-10 (8.4 L!!!).
Now the BMW E46 CSL had that track done in 7:22:88 ... Ok ur precious 2009 Viper ACR was faster by .78 seconds but look at the difference in engineering. The BMW was a 1998 model vith a V6 3.2 L aprox 522 Hp.
If BMW will ever make a 8.4L v10 engine it will surely b over 1000hp!!
