i hate to ask this but i love son house and the only tabs i can find is death letter but i want to learn more. sadly my ear isnt good enough yet. can someone help me find tabs?
@vleb right on, I thought so!! BRB, tunning my guitar to try to play along! (yeah, I know the last comment was made ages ago but hey, I bin drinkin!).
Just love this. One of my all time favourite covers I've come across on you tube. Done with your own stamp. This is what this site is best at. Bloke sitting in his living room sounding like this. I've watched this tens of times since I favourited it about a year ago. Makes me want to dig around in my cupboard for my old brass slide and have a go at it.
I started to play guitar in late 80's, quickly switched to slide. I began to be able to play what I want since late 90's...Hey, since you're from Sweden, go a check Fred Kinbom, a great swedish slide player ! His YouTube user name is oahusteel75
Awesome voice - good and powerful like the blues should be, yet with the control that separates a great performance from a good one; awesome guitar, I'm going to have to really study this video lol
very nice sound. you have encouraged me to mess around with alternative tunings. I'm usually stubborn/lazy and stay in standard. But I'll have to try this "Open D"....
This is the best cover of this song out there.Great playing and singing.Your phrasing is perfect....5 stars. Please check out my clip on youtube.......Big Frank
Perfectly awesome - great playing bro - thanks for the entertainment. there's a lot of said and the slide and blues in your style - it shows.... THAT says a LOT bro! Thanks for sharing the post. I feel you bro - I feel you.
there ya go man. that's the shit =B) if there's something missing from another tune, it's on this one. the better you play yer axe, the better you sing. hot shit. i wish i could play patton and house.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
yeah right...as if that was a blues tune...You people , all of you...you better stop posting shitty vdos here..its not good for somebody to look for some Son House vdos for example and then watch yours... just change the name of your vdos to something like "instead of jerking off I am playing the guitar " .GetZ me?
Sing it, white boy! You're amazing...this music stirs my soul, you're a very talented player/singer...a wonderful tribute and cover. What kind of guitar is that?
I can see your point...What's the use of white guy playing Son House in 2006 ? Well, I'm selfish and I really dig to play that tune ;-) When I play it live, people like it. I always explain where it comes from and what is it about. It's an humble tribute. But I do agree : you should always listen to the original ! To play Son House songs is a way to tell people "listen to Son House". Thanks for your comment :-D
first of all - eat a dick. second of all - he can do whatever the fuck he wants to, i just said i felt it is irresponsible. third - because blues music is variations of a select few chord progressions, what makes a song unique are the distinct subtelties an artist applies with the instrument or his voice. if someone isnt going to improve on the song or take it in a completely different direction, i feel that he gives the impression to his listeners that the
things son house did can be duplicated, which i dont think they can be. i feel like this diminishes the beauty of the music of someone like son house. i understand where vleb is coming from when he says 'to play son house songs is a way to tell people to listen to son house', and i agree to some extent, but it is human nature to instinctively favor the version they heard first, to compare the second version to the first, and i feel like that taints the music, in this case
son houses version, because one should be able to listen to his music without anything to diminish their focus on it, because to appreciate the blues one needs to listen to each and every note without distraction
very good... thats the way the blues sounded best. played sloppy, but yet with feeling and passion... im not a fan of the stevie ray vaughn big 80's stuff.. blahhh...
Thanks, DADF#AD....What are you playing ? A very early triolian with a maple neck? Or reissue? What kind of bridge is on it ??? You sound Awesome!. -K

Please whats the guitar tune to? Is it OpenG?
natureswhey 5 years ago
Thank you so much for your very kind words...The guitar is tuned to open D = DADF#AD (low to high)
vleb 5 years ago
is open D similar to drop D? whatever youre doing is bad ass.
publykanimal9 4 years ago
No it's not the same.
Drop D is DADGBE. You just put the first chord in D.
Open D is DADF#AD, or some times DADGAD.
feuille73 4 years ago
I love DADGAD for my Celtic songs... I just found out it was pretty much the staple for Celtic guitar...
Heh... oops.
