When the hypotenuse becomes the same as the opposite side, then it is like there are two 90 degree angles and a zero degree angle at the top. 90 + 90 + 0 = 180 degrees.
If it helps to visualize, think about a triangle (just before this happens) that has a right angle, an 89 degree angle and a 1 degree angle at the top. As the hypotenuse collapses onto the opposite side, the 89 degree angle grows to 90 degrees and the small 1 degree angle at the top reduces to 0 degrees.
