Years ago, I wrote a short symphonic piece for chamber orchestra and electric guitar, with a Steve Vai-type guitarist in mind. The guitar line was truly a b*tch to notate. After seeing what he's up to now in this video, I have to wonder if he's also created a new form of written notation for all the weird little Vai-isms like that moving chord whammy bar lift thingie. I mean, seriously, Steve, how the heck do you transcribe that (if you wanted to)? ("Metaphysical Me Jaytee" wants to know!)

We then had the benefit of having the album to compare it to. Without hearing the music first I think the written work could've looked a bit like gibberish to us but perfect sense to him.
