@Thealmightygimp yes it would, just tightly wrap alot of tape around it and you have a shitty firecracker. And you will need about 20-30 shells to fill it up. Gun powder isnt the best for fircracker use too. Gun powder is flacky not powdered, unlike black powder. (same mixture, just BP is finer). I would recommend a flash powder type explosive. such as a mixture of Mg, S, and KCIO4 (Potassium Perclorate). And that would sure enough give you a good bang instead of gun powder. ;)

Why would you fool aroud with phosphorus? It's highly unstable... friction and impact will cause it to explode. Use gunpowder instead. It will cost a bit more effort and money, but the chance of blowing your fingers will be reduced significantly.
