If the cover is only an imitation of the earlier piece, then it better be extra good or there would be no reason to buy it.

Thank you for uploading this, it's truly superb. Dick Dale's guitar version is very different, and also superb in its own way. They're both great, and it's pointless to argue about which is better, since it's totally subjective. If you prefer this version, you can still be glad that Dick Dale popularized the music so more people could get to know it. If you prefer Dale's version, be glad this exists, or he would never have made his version. End of arguments. (Except for the Black Eyed Peas...)

Misirlou! it exactly means "egyptian" in turkish. it's composer is known, by the way. His name is "Misirli Udi Efendi", who was born in Haleppo and died in İstanbul. His real name was Avram Levi, that tells us he was a jewish citizen of Ottoman.
That Dick Dale named it to greek culture does not proove it was a greek song.

This song is Greek and was written by Greeks. It is also written in melodic minor which brings in mind images of eastern civilisations (like Egypt or Israel). It is a love song. It is about a man who loves a woman from Egypt and wants to steal her ( that's is the habbit in those days) from her parents to marry her. This is romantic. Black eyed peas come from a genre and era which is not romantic. It's about how the woman can eat many cocks. So the original is the best. No comparement here

This is the first I've heard of this. It clearly is a tremendous piece of music. Dick Dale's version does it justice because the music is tremendous and he doesn't lose that part of it. Anything else is not worth the argument. It's the music that is great. End of story. If somebody covers it but does not destroy the music it's a good cover. If the cover is only an imitation of the earlier piece, then it better be extra good or there would be no reason to buy it.
