Whenever I was appearing in LA I always made a point to do the GRAVELINE tour, when it was still in a hearse. The driver/host took us to Jack's building and the version of his death was that he had tried to commit suicide by setting himself on fire and leaping from the balcony, only to get tangled in the curtains, and fell back inside..where he was found, just inside the balcony.
Do you plan on doing a story on any of the former Little Rascal kids who died too young and tragically, like Scotty Beckett and Alfalfa Switzer? Those would interest me the most seeing how their deaths are still a question mark.
this is an interesting quote from Ryan's website.
"If Jack hadn't died that way, his body would have deteriorated rapidly of disease and he may not have lived much longer than a couple of years anyway."
If he'd not died a sudden and briefly painful death, he would probably have ended his life much more slowly, in the midst of continuous pain.
This is just a taste of the Dearly Departed Tour. I've taken the tour and I highly recommend it. Scott is informative, entertaining and remarkably RESPECTFUL.
I am a Death Hag! Even if the information in the video is or isnt accurate, its still interesting. I dont find it vulgar, or rude, or insensative in any form or fation. Call me old fashioned, but the people that they are doing a story about are no longer with us, and I seriously doubt they would care if the information in this video is 100% accurate. 99% of the families in this video arn't bashing them for making it, most are correcting what errors they make.
If this were a loved one that died an accidental, painful death and someone was mocking it, you would find it negative too.
I have also been to this guy's website and the facts he gave were very different than given by Shirley Jones and her kids.
According to him, Jack was jealous of everybody including Shaun. At the time of Jack's death, Jack was the one who helped Shaun get involved with the Hardy Boy project, Jack died one month before the Hardy Boy's premiere
Actually, it was smoke inhalation and this has been indicated by members of the family. The coroner couldn't detect an actual cause of death. They had to go with what they had. Please don't pretend you have the facts when you don't.
It is very telling that the ratings have been disabled for this video. I guess people know a ghoul when they see it.
I saw his death certificate and it says thermal burns to the body. I think I'll go along with that conclusion as opposed to one given by someone acting like a haughty know-it-all (no offense).
According to his death certificate, the immediate cause of death was "EXTENSIVE THERMAL BURNS OF BODY." Family members have every reason to fudge facts to protect the image of their loved ones, which I respect. But don't accuse people here of not having the facts when we are using signed official documents as our sources and all you have is biased hearsay.
There are other videos from this film that you can rate all you want. Comments are more importantto me than ratings.

This man is vulgar. . . .and incorrect. Jack was found near the balcony. He died of smoke inhalation. Why would they let someone so base and lacking in decency into some place like that. Don't they have standards?
I heard he is in his bed, not on the couch. As for the "ghost" thing, thats for scooby-doo and people who buy into that, its the people who are living you want to be worried about. You see ghosts? = skitzo!. Find me scientific evidence of it, please. (aimed at the people who have lived there). Great video and site! Please dont get into this ghost stuff though!

According to Ryan Cassidy website, Jack was very sick when he died. In fact he would have only two more years to live if he had not died that way.
Compare a quick death in a fire to months in pain and detrioration.
I think its a shame how some people exploit this.
coconnoc 4 years ago
I find it interesting that people are giving negatives to the facts. Come up with an actual source that is RELIABLE and you want to attack them.
Again, it should tell you all you need to know when the ratings for the video have been disabled.

I said the word 'exploit'.

Jack Cassidy was a lovely man but he probably drank himself to death.
That is why he couldn't get out of the place.
What an ugly place to live.
No wonder Jack drank.

Jack CAssidy suffered from manic depression.
But from what I understand the fire was started from an ash left smoldering from earlier in the day. That is according to Shirley.
Jack had vistors that day so we don't know if it was Jack's ash.
Jack did go to bed that night.
Jack did get up and tried to get out.
The fact that Jack was at a Xmas party that night and had some drinks is irrelevant.
This was before smoke detectors were standard use.
catanncar 3 years ago
I don't know whether you have ever tried to get out of a fire in your life, but it is not that easy to get out.
I don't know why you think that someone has to be drinking or something to not be able to get out.
Fire spreads quickly. In a smoked filled room you cannot see anything in front of you.
Jack did tried to get out and past out from smoke inhalation. Happens all the time.
I suggest you stop being judgemental and spend more time listening during fire and safety week.
ire4along 3 years ago
I'm not being judgmental. It is a well known
fact that he drank quite a bit.
No big deal.

IT was the 70's, I think a lot of people drank and smoke.
There are distinction made between those who can drink and still function and those who can't.
Jackie Gleason smoke and drank and it didn't effect his performances.
Jack Cassidy was working and people spoke of what pleasure he was to work with.
BY the way, Jack Cassidy has two grandchildren named after him.
One is ten years old.
There is always more to a story than just reading so far into it.

Jack's alcohol level was 1.2. Passed out drunk is 2.0.
i don't think alcohal had too much to do with it.
catanncar 2 years ago
Then why do you think he had trouble getting out of that fire?
I also heard that he would have died in a few years anyway?
I sure liked him.
Bandtrip50 2 years ago
Jack's body was found near the balcony.
One of the errors in this video is that he was found by the door.
Jack was sitting on a couch near the fireplace and might have mistaken the smell of smoke from the fireplace until it was too late.
