@poiuytrewqpoiiiiiiuy oh man. I really need to fix my description with external hard drives. Go over these steps slowly, not to confuse yourself.

1) Open "Computer", or "My Computer" (Whatever ti is called).

2) Find the corresponding hard drive. Remember the drive letter (the letter in the parenthesis after the hard drive name (e.g. "Barracuda (D:)" = D:)

3) Type in chkdsk, hard drive letter, and /r (e.g. chkdsk D: /r)

Hello I Have a Very Big Problem, Actually I was Downloading GTA IV (Game) and it's 13.8 GB but on 3.3% Light Went Off and When Light Was Back On Then I Resumed the Torrent But It Gave me This Error...But I Solved That Error With This Video But Now Another Big Problem is That when The Torrent Was On 3.3% it Had Done 490MB But now When Problem Got Solved it Shows That it is Going Above Downloaded Above 3.3% But The Torrent Info Has All messed and it shows only 90Mb Downloaded? Torent Work Fine?

sigh.. i was like 2 hours away from finishing the Shogun 2 total war 12gb torrent.i had 10gb downloaded, then my hd started making some weird sounds i ended up having CRC in utorrent.. I tried to fix the HD by making the error check but it didnt work and i got mad and deleted Shogun 2 total war... I guess its time for a new HD. SO annoying :S

@rumzoo because CD's are read only. In order to do the CRC check on anything, you must have a writing access to it. On a CD, it is read-only. So it cannot fix it.

@Kaeden728 That's most likely a physical disk problem. If you see scratches on it, it cannot fully read the file because the part of the file is covered by the scratch.

Unfortunately this did not solve my problem. Is it possible that there is something wrong in the torrent data thats causing this? I'm gonna try downloading the torrent to a different hdd.

@PrimalVinegar Yeah, if it didn't fix it. That probably means that the part of the hard drive got physically damaged has that chunk of the downloaded file, and cannot be recovered. Have to redownload the whole file, or better try on a different HDD.

Chkdsk said it repaired a sector in the file, but the error re-occured when I attempted to continue the download. Instead, I downloaded that part of the torrent to another HDD and that worked. I'm a bit worried about the first HDD though, it's the system drive and I will mos def back my shit up now. Piece of crap, havn't even had it for a year. Thx for replying tho :)

@BDBoyProductionZ apparently later the torrent messed up my external drive even further to point where whenever i hook it in it wants it to be reformatted. right now im doing chkdsk. on it.. and somehow the torrent f'd up my c drive killing my raid 1 setup. so now i gotta do some massive fixing. hopefully not everything was messed up . thanks for reply.

Though its doing the chkdsk on cmd instead of restarting. due to the fact the hdd isnt in use in main areas or somethin. i think it would go faster if it was done during boot up. lol.

That means that another program is running that file that is being downloaded. For example, you are downloading a video. It is not fully downloaded yet, and you try to open. As soon as you open the file, it gets locked and cannot be downloaded or written to. The two options is that close the program using the file, or just restart or logoff, and login/

It's a lengthy explanation, but have you tried restarting the computer. That should stop any programs accessing the downloading file.

@woxenon Well, that is when %SystemDrive% will take care of your problems. %SystemDrive% is a variable that stores the information on your current operating system hard drive letter. So if you log in to XP, %SystemDrive% would be C:, and if you log in to Windows 7, %SystemDrive% would be F:. If the problem is within XP, then log in to XP and perform the chkdsk command. If within Windows 7, then log in to Windows 7 and perform the chkdsk command.

Chkdsk is just a temporary fix but after a few hours CRC will strike again.

So, you if you're experiencing CRC you better contact a technician because your HD might have a hardware-problem or try to replace your Cables

No lol CRC means that your hard drive is failing, you need to back it up before it goes completely.

trying to fix my external hdd which contains about 750 GB amount of space and 120 GB is used. later tried to do this with about 500 GB used and never passed 4th stage - after 12 hours still there were 8% done and nothing did happen. wonder if this will give any chances to complete, cause there are important data which all cannot be transferred to another place due this error. and I can't format this drive. doomed. why this error comes in a first place anyway?

Well, I haven't had any problems with disk check crashing the computer. How about you backup everything just in case and try it out. It should work out somehow. What disk check will do is find any corrupt parts of the file and try to fix it.

ey yo if you reinstall your whole computer like a buy a reinstall disk that makes your computer brand new again will you still have the problem

Well, that depends. As you install something new, the hard drive head automatically find damaged places on hard drive and avoids it, but overtime, if you copied something to the computer and then at one point, that one chunk of file gets damaged, that is what causes the crc error. Reinstalled Operating System might be a long term fix, but remember, nothing stays fresh for long. But don't be scared of the errors, try doing the check disk. It fixes a lot of times the crc errors.

well, the only reason why it might say, "Access Denied" is that you are running under a limited account, not as an administrator.
