  • this helped me sooooooo much to study for my history exam in college

  • Dude, his middle name was Lloyd...

  • The assessment of Brown by historian Ed Bearss in this video is typical of the hackneyed, "conventional" viewpoint white academia in the 20th century. Unfortunately most of the historians who run their mouths about Brown know precious little about him apart from what they read from books written by men just like themselves. It has taken a full century for John Brown scholarship to move forward because of narrow, ill-informed, and prejudiced historians and their presumptions about John Brown.

  • Have you read the recent biography about John Brown yet? It's on my summer reading list, because it appears to be a fair approach to John Brown and his abolitionist activities. If you have read it, let me know what you think. I always appreciate good book recommendations!

  • The biographies written in the 21st century thus far have been generally more fair and certainly more appreciative of Brown. The work of Evan Carton, the most recent bio, is recommended. David Reynolds' bio is also good, although I have some reservations about some aspects of the work, including some of the sources he used/didn't use. As I am a biographer, my work, though hardly without flaw, is also well researched and brings a new view of Brown.

  • Written any biographies with which I may be familiar?
