  • I live across the water from the island, (windsor) i was not born at the time this was there, but thats sad..... that would be pretty cool if it was still there so we can do something. The closest "park" is CedarPoint now. 2-3 hour drive...

  • Man watching this video is bringing back lots of memories and just makes me think on how I really miss Boblo Island went there every year when it was around and had so much fun

  • Interesting video, I'm from Philly and had never even heard of this park but it looks like it was a cool place, it sucks to see places like this just coming apart, they should just fix up all the building's that are left ( I know you said they were doing that to some of them already) but why not them all...also you'd think people who live there would want a mini golf course as well.

  • This is disgusting, the way that everything is just wasting away, and left forgotten. what the hell gives with that broken fire truck? Couldn't someone at least revive the mini golf--what a mess. That fort is amazing---everything abaout Boblo was amazing---what a shame

  • When I was just 6 years old I remember being on the Log Flume and at the peak of the hill i looked down and screamed, "OH SHIIIIIIITT!!!!!". My parents laughed so hard and i was so scared lmao.

And the falling star- my favorite ride there.

I miss boblo so much. And I dont even live in Michigan anymore. :(

  • Well Done For Anyone Who Was There

  • Thank you for sharing your memeries and posting this well done video.

  • Great job! What a sad state it is in. I remember go there in the '80s.

  • Sad, The best thing about going to Boblo was the boat ride from Downtown Detroit. In 1972 when I was 12 I went to Boblo for the first time. Its was great. The real reason Boblo went under was "Cedar point" Why can't the Boblo boats take people to "Cedar point" ? That would be a blast.

  • Four generations of my family have attended this wonderful place! I so treasure those memories & always will! My Grandmother was the first to take her kids there followed by her Grandkids. We then took our kids to this magical place! My only regret is I can never take MY Grandkids. They only know the place though our memories. Thank-you for posting this!

  • Royal Bank of Scotland ownes Halifax Plc and both borrowed £150Bn for UK govt only to pay out £2.5Bn in Executive bonuses and cashiers in local branches loose jobs 3,000 staff lost jobs to end up on £67 per week social security.... what link with Bob-lo well UK lost Southport Pleasure Beach , American Adventure theme Park and Morcombe Frontier Land as they were Foreclosed and stripped

  • Luxury Houese and Condo`s for bankers who made a quick buck out of recession and greed probably foreclosed the park along with other crooks in the banking and investment industry while they walk about in their fantasy land as Detroit disintegrates and US goes through Recession ....Good one Bankers!!! they done that here in UK too buy Executive homes whilst lay of thousands into no-hope and then repossess their own staffs homes and get bail-outs from the UK govt and get bonuses

  • My god. The last time I was there was the summer of 1978. Look at it now. What a shame.

  • oh god i remenber the magic show lol i was just a little kid and i got to go on stage. the guy put a big pin though the balloon. i still have the picture.

  • It breaks my heart to see this wonderful place turn into ruins.

  • Cool thing to have around to explore, but at the same time, really sad how once an epic place just gets dumped and left. I love to explore abandonments, but places like this are just sad to see. Shows how the human race is a throw away mentality.

  • fascinating.

  • wtf why was there a firetruck and a boat thing

  • This was an awesome. Thank you for posting

Disable automatic updates * Thank you so much for posting the video. I was curious to see what it was like today. I lived in Michigan and went with my parents and aunt & uncle in 1983. I was 7 so my memories are kinda hazy. The things I distinctly remember were the boat ride being so much fun and throwing popcorn to the wind as the gulls followed & ate on the river.

  • It WAS very eerie to hear the music as you left the island as it always seemed to have been played through an echoplex. I will never forget going to the island and hearing The Beach Boys "Good Vibrations". Oh man, the memories are soo bittersweet. Someone has to get the St. Claire restored so people can cruise "to" Bob-Lo once again! =*(

  • Great Boblo memories! It would be very interesting to see this made into a full length documentary with all the extra footage you shot. I was fortunate enough to visit Boblo several times in my youth. I recently got the opportunity to visit it once again a couple years ago. The island is now occupied by numerous, expensive homes. It was great seeing the Dance Pavilion again and the Sky Tower. I hope they don't demolish the tower.

    Thanks for posting this.

  • Sir, this video brought back so many bittersweet memories for me. It brought tears to my eyes to see the old island in such disrepair. As a young gent, my friends and family frequented the island several times each Summer to enjoy the rides til' the whistle of the "last boat" called us to the dock for departure. I have an original advertisement type poster (the type that was put in store fronts) from the 40's in #1-2 condition, with Captain Bob-Lo right on the front. No mention of rides here. TY

  • man i remember my mom takeing me there when i was young, its a shame i cant take my kids there. r.i.p

  • Jake thank you so much for posting this. A sad ending to what was in my opinion the best place for a weekend vacation but the memories will always be there. Bob-Lo may be gone but like every great thing to come and go it will live on forever in our hearts. R.I.P Bob-Lo

  • VERY well done, interspersing the promotional clips with the present perspective. You hit some of the parts I actually remember from my visits at age 10-12. It's funny how I have no memory of the historic buildings, but miniature golf is RIGHT THERE! Please do share the rest of your material, Jake.

  • this looked liked a fun amusement park sadly i was born 97' 4 years after it closed i wish it was still open so that i could have some fun like you guys did

  • Thank you Jake, sad to see this wonderful old friend in such a sad state. I remember the Papoose boats from Amherstburg and the pride of the great lakes, the Columbia and the Ste. Claire cruise boats. All we have left, are the memories and glad to know the two steamboats are being repaired! Odd they outlived the SS Titanic.... RIP Bob-Lo

  • Amazing ,a Canadian island , overrun by american millionaires ,Hope they like gun control and the hst.

  • TOO COOL !! THIS SHOULD NEVER HAVE BEEN ALLOWED TO HAPPEN .I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY PEOPLE LET OUR PAST DECAY , JUST WATCHING THESE PICTURES I CAN FEEL MY PAST . AND I WAS ONLY THERE ONCE IN 85 . THIS IS SO SAD !!

  • Brings back some fond memories. Used to visit Boblo in the late 60's & early 70's

    Great video!!!

  • Jake, you did a nice job on this. I have watched this before on here and because of you and another video, my fiancee and I took a trip over to Boblo back in the spring. I grew up not far from the Gibraltar docks but never went as a child. It was haunting to go there and see all the buildings and what was left. I'm hoping to go back again at some point.

  • sigh...I loved the antique cars. I remember the magic show, but never had a chance to see the chinese acrobats, and I remember wanting to go that year but missing out. When I was little and came with my grandparents, they would always bring a picnic basket and we'd usually bbq because concession stand food was a bit high. But my kids never had a chance to see any of it and for that I'll always be saddened.

  • I went there as a kid loved it

  • thank you for this video, it really brought back some memories, hazy memories, but non the less, memories indeed. I'm sure this is the place that began my love of amusement parks.. great documentary, great work, thank you, BOBLO LIVES!

  • Cool to watch and somewhat sad to see how such a fun place ended up.

  • I use to Love to go to Boblo! Sooooo much fun! I'm 35 now, and it seems like just yesterday.

  • I love it Jake. BRAVO. well put together I live in Indianapolis. been here 4 18 years I'm 32 now and alot of ppl, i mean everybody here never heard of boblo island.that brong back so many memories. Thats the only park i went to as a kid.

  • Nice video but your facts are wrong. The building you refer to as being a historic fort was built in the 1980's as part of the Fort Fun Childrens play area. The last of the historic block houses is on the south end of the island and has collapsed

  • @tdiesbourg2 I have a picture of that house that you are refering to. I wondered what it was. Thank you for clearing it up for me :)

  • I went to boblo several times as a kid; i remember when the simpsons were there

  • Very cool. I was fortunate enough to live this era and knew nearly every square foot of each boat. For some reason, I preferred the Columbia by far. The Bois Blanc Island was just the icing on the cake.

    Thanks for the memories

  • Simply amazing with a sad feel to it i love it

  • Thank you for your comments everyone!! I really appreciate your feedback! :-)

  • wow what a great piece of history! Thanks so much for this flashback. My family and i hold many dear memories of time spent on Boblo Island. It was such a huge part of our lives, picnics, family get togethers, hanging out with friends, it's really sad to watch your video and see what became of it. i am sure it must have been gut renching for you to film this. one day i will visit it again; i see fancy big homes, the beauty of boblo was everyone could afford to go there, and it was Canandian.

  • fun indeed for the whole family!

  • Very well put together documentary.

  • just last night I had a dream of being at boblo it was strange for the fact that i havent been there since i was like 4 and now being 25 its so sad to say that I will never be able to enjoy memories there with my kids like I did with my family. Great Job on the video !!!

  • LOL Dang good video I remember when I was a kid it was me my mom and dad brother uncle aunt and cuzins went, im 24 now so i can't believe how many memories this brought back, the old model cars i remember me and my mom riding them lol i also remember all of us playing the mini golf course. We lived in Gibralter, me my uncle and one of my cusins going into the sky tower lol I heard that is still there, wow that was an awsome video thank you so much.

  • Great video!!

  • Wow! What a cool video... I remember going to Boblo once but I was very young... It must be a really weird feeling being there when it was desolate...and at one time thousands and thousands of people were having the time of their lives on that very same ground

  • honestly though I don't the park would have worked in a post 9/11 world. Especially now since US citizens have to use passports to get into Canada. It would be easy to get on the island through Canada and take a ferry bound for Detroit.

  • Thanks a bunch for the video dude. I'm 24 and i'm one of the few people my age who remembers coming here. The part where you were walking down the entrance with the former employee took me back to when i was about 5 walking down the dock with my grandparents. I couldnt remember until i saw that. It makes me want to go the island just to walk around before its completely demolished.

  • very good video!

  • Before today, I had never heard of Boblo Island, but your documentory makes me wish I had visited it. Thank you for sharing these images and stories of this wonderful place. Its a pity it has been lost,

  • Before today, I had never heard of Boblo Island, but your documentory makes me wish I had visited it. Thank you for sharing these images and stories of this wonderful place. Its a pity it has been lost,

  • That was NOT part of the historic fort. The building in you video was built in the 1980's as part of the Fort Fun Childrens Play Area.

  • I remember us always taking the last boat back to Detroit. What a beautiful end to an awesome day on the island. Sure do miss that!

  • Kinda like fallout 3

  • this is so sad to see i have so many memories from boblo i hate to see this, this video brings tears to my eyes very very sad i found my old pen the one with the boat that flowted back and forth on the side of the pen

  • Thanks Jake for fixing the audio. When are you going to finish the video. The shot's you took on the S.S. Ste Claire would be cool to see

  • God.. I went there a lot of times. Lasttime I went out on the lake we went by one of the boats. It was kind of crazy. It looked like it was hunted or something. I know its not but still.

  • I still remember the boat getting Looking down into the Engine watching all those big parts move around down below I also remember the Music and the old wooden gray floors . Remeber when one of the ships had an Arcade ?

  • Me too. My Godfather asked someone to let us down there and i still remember the heat, and smell. I remember it smelled like oil, not burnt oil just hot motor oil, and the light down there being a light orange. Very good memories.

  • Yes Very good memories . Wow I can still remember when the ship would come into Dock and the Anchor would drag and the ship would Rubble to a stop .

  • man I miss Bob-lo

  • I like the video but, is there someway we or I could hear the audio since YouTube has removed it? I would really like to hear the whole thing.

  • Growing up downriver on Grosse Ile, Im very familiar with Boblo Island. It truely is too bad that it had to come to the condition it is in now. Thanks for posting.

  • Growing up near detroit I had the luck of going at least 5 times a summer growing up through the 80's until the closing year. No park anywhere was as unique as going to Boblo. The boat ride was half the fun and being on the island added excitement for a kid...... At least that cant take away the memories. Good Video

  • This is sad,

the bloke who is taking the camera around seems like his upset!!

my local themepark is blackpool and it would be sad if blackpool closed and it will be sad walking around that!!

    top view this is!!

    excellent for adding this dude!!

  • did this park close down in 1993?

what a shame, i never been but looking at this it seems like a magic place!"

  • Thanks.....really enjoyed this.

  • Thanks for your comments everybody! I have nearly 4 hours of footage that I shot of the boats and the island. I'm currently sifting through it all in preparation for a full-length version of my documentary. Stay tuned!!

  • @TheJake1277 You did a great job. You edited this video the I would have. I like how you combine the audio of the old ads of the park with video of how the area of the park looks today that the ad is talking about. It's sad that todays land developers have no imagination and instead of re-building the park, are just going to build more houses and condos. I look forward to seeing the longer version of your documentary.

  • I actually cried after this was over. I miss boblo so much. Now it's a stupid island...

  • @Numba1H8ter haha Now its a stupid Island,

    STUPID ISLANDS!!!!!!!!!

  • this is so sad it was such a special place for a lot of people including myself

  • I was there one of the last years it was open. I was pretty young, but i remember the model T's, and the cold boat ride over. Mostly I remember the boat ride over, it was great. this is so sad.

  • Well put together! is there anyway you could put the whole boblo ad on here?? its eerie to see the places in the film today, deserted and forgotten. Sad.

  • You can get the boblo ad on DVD or VHS it's on "More Bob-lo Memories" The ad is the 1991 ad on the video. On the video there's "Boblo Memories" "Let's Twist Again" "History" "More Memories" the tv ad "1991" "1992" and "Farewell"

  • This is awesome!

  • its hard to hold back the tears, man this place still means so much to me and it always will. great job Jake. hope to talk to you soon.

    (Lead)

  • i luv it!

can't wait to see more of the boats......
