the hit from the 8 to the 9 was thick. if it hit the 9 a little bit more on its right side, the 8 would have gone in.

or he could have stroked the 8 a little harder so there's less follow-through; but not harder to bounce the 8 off the pocket's mouth.

He had to slow roll it, otherwise he would've risked it rebounding off the side of the pocket [very easy mistake to make from that angle to the pocket] and kissing completely.

really? like theres no need to hit a ball hard enough so it makes it to the pocket? there was no risk in hitting the ball slightly harder and running the cue ball around a bit more. no chance really of the ball deflecting funny, since the carom was so close to the pocket, you guarantee the shot goes in. i guess under pressure even pros thought process goes out the window.

@phixxwutwut His speed was just under what was necessary. It was a mistake but there's no need to hit balls harder than they have to. In this case, he didn't hit it hard enough, but generally you don't want to slam the balls in. Especially because it increases the probability of scratching.

@ProdigyKimXP and did you see where the cue finished? absolutely 0 scratch chance. of course ronnie alcano would absolutely destroy me in every pool game we ever played, but its still good to analyze his mistakes, even if they are few and far between imo :)

@phixxwutwut I'm not doubting the fact that he made a mistake. He definitely should have hit it harder. Just a rule of thumb, you don't want to hit it harder than you have to. You also lose accuracy the harder you hit the ball.

Not necessarily. From where it hit the 9, the 8 was still going towards the edge of the pocket. If you hit the 9 any further to the right, you risk hitting the point and missing the shot.
