3.73 gears won't do anything for you over 3.55s unless you are launching at 6000 rpm full throttle on slicks. Then gears will get you a better 60'. But on the street and especially from a roll, there is no difference even between 2.73 and 4.10 gears. Sometimes 2.73s are better because you can hold the gears out longer. My bud with 2.73s pulled my 3.73 car on the street even tho I out trap him by 2 mph.
@ztwntyn8 yeah three people. We were on our way to run some twisties and decided to run them a couple times. Weve tried to get together a couple times since this video to race but havent been able to work our schedules out. I know without a doubt i would win this time. I know the car its broken in and no longer stock.

@1txpipeliner horray for you, you have a car that will go an 1/8 of an mile in a straight line. If i want yo rip gears like im racing gor money i can. But since i owned the car three days i didnt see the point in pushing the limit. Getting to know a car is important. The delay that seems like im granny shifting is me hitting the rev limiter. @escrotumus the gap is me hitting the rev limiter. I had the car for three or four days. It didnt have more than 700 miles on it. But i tell you what. Check bak tomorrow qnd i will have a video uploaded to my account of gear shifting. I would bet 100 bucks that i can out drive 98% of all the people that post comments like yours. I not only do it on the street i run her on the track.

@errenthovsep i had to have my clutch replaced after only 7k miles but it was one of the first produced. The issue was the locktight. They used orange instead of red and it pressure plate bolts backed out. On the 3v 4.6 they used orange and didnt have any issues. But with the increased torque and power, the orange wouldnt secure the bolts. Funny it was as simple as tocktight not being strong enough. The issue has been fixed on the assembly line so i wouldnt worry about it. The car is amazing

@hagued420 the break in period is 500 miles. during that time they only ask that you not drive for extended periods of time with the cruise on as to not allow the rpms to stay constant. in addition, the manual states not to go WOT for the first 250 miles. Ive owned the car for a little over a year and have 28,000 miles on it. I was well past the 500 miles by the third day. Driving is one of my favorite things in the world.
Nice run...I think after you break in the new stang..you will smoke him....def after 100 the old mustang will drop out...if that was an old 3 speed auto or even 4 speed stick he will top out at the most at 125 and you will sail by him..half mile run you would def take him every time
Congrats on the new 5.0 got mine a couple months ago it has the 3.7s with the Brembo package! What do you have? 3.73 and 1 less person in the 5.0 might have made the difference. If not just chip it and your golden!!

@KatoKid85 300lbs can make a huge difference...every 100lbs is a tenth in the 1/4 mile basically. Look at diference between dodge, camaro, and 5.0, what seperates them most is weight. all wieght equal the higher HP/tq will win...with only few HP/TQ diff the lighter will when when drivers equal.
@wjmiller80 i had the car three days at thos point. Hit the rev limiter on the first three gears. Then when i changed gears the traction control applied the brakes because the tires tried to spin. I can drive. Go check my track day video. Out of 36 cars i was the fourth fastest in a 2010 gt.
that 67 is a beast, its like 2800lbs compared to the 2011 5.0 being 3600lbs but its due to all the safety and regulations junk etc. So right there alone the 5.0 is 800lbs heavier, plus you got 3 people in the 5.0 so thats another 350lbs or so??? so we are looking at 1150lbs difference. plus the 67 having 4.11 gears.
the 67s are fun but they might be worse in handling, cornering, braking, freeway driving and daily driving, so u had AC on, traction on and 3.55 gears at that time?
most ACs will shut down when you floor the car, the traction controll sucks...on any car...if someone needs that they shouldn't be driving a mustang, not saying you need traction control. it makes the car a lot less manageable in my opinion, I have had 4 GTs that had it and the first thing i did after starting the car was turn that off. one thing ive noticed from many other videos of cars is that alot of people talk about cars they dont have. I dont know anyone in my area who has a GTR. For sure, both of these mustangs are nice. For a 2011 5.0 to be almost equal with a 331 stroker says alot about the car. Especially being that the older one is definetly lighter. I wish i could be old enough to buy one of these new mustangs but for now, i got my 66, with a 4.945 lol. 302.
@B1Springfield i have been lucky enough to race one on the interstate and then meet a guy in my city with one. We have gone to barber motorsports park and a drag strip together. The gtr is a beautiful machine that is so fast. My lap times at barbers were faster but hes a littled scared to realky push it. He wont let me show him what its really capable of. Also i recommend waiting until ur older to purchase a really strong car. You will live longer. My 1st car 65 impala ss my 2nd 85 gt.

And when i changed gears the traction control applied the brakes to the rear wheels because tjey were trying to spin. I can drive a car. Go check my track day video. I was the fourth fastest out of 36 cars. In a 2010 gt. I ran a turbo supra down three times. My buddy and i have been trying to get back together for another race. Now that i know the car i will win. No doubt.
Nice car on both sides. When did you buy your 5.0? I haven't had any problems finding dealers with manuals and 3.73 ratios when I've looked; maybe Ford had trouble catching up with demand.

i love the 2011 mustang with a passion and im getting one but the 67 mustang (which i also own ironically) is 1000 pounds lighter and the 331 can man alot of power so its not surprising that it beat a stock 2011 buttttttt lets see the 67 try to stop on a dime with stock drums =P
@drewsky2 the easiest way to describe it is to tell you it was purchased as a 6 cyclinder and converted to a muscle car. I believe.it has 4.10 gears. Its fast as you can imagine. Nothing but raw power and much much lighter than my 2011. I also had threw people in my car and some stuff in the trunk.

@lafedean I'm sure i'll think it feels 97 hp faster than the '05 - '10 GT. I drove a 2010 Camaro SS which is close in performance to the 2011 GT. Sure, it put me in the seat, it has 410 hp. Wasn't anything eye-opening though. I'm sure i'd feel the same about the 2011 GT. Not surprised. The 2005-2010 GTs that were supposed to run 13.5 @ 105 mph never went any faster than about 14.5 @ 98 mph at my local dragstrip... I'm sure the story is the same with the 2011s

@guyd37 I'm not going to research youtube dude. I trust what I see with my own eyes in person at my local dragstrip because that is BY FAR the most reliable source. I'm not saying Mustang owners are doing this, but I COULD put a 100 shot of nitrous on my car, make videos of it racing around and say it is just a "factory freak" or any number of similar things. No one would know the difference through youtube.
@gtdrummerdude I spend all my Friday evenings at the local track which is the second busiest in North America. I see countless SRT-4, Cobalt SS and STI. They never do better than low 14s. Altitude is the problem. Same as your track. Bone stock 2011 Mustang 5.0 has been doing low 13s since they were lauched. 11 sec with upper intake, exhaust and 3.73 gears. If those new Mustangs are slow, everything else currently available is.
@guyd37 The last time I was out at the drags here in the summer (110 degrees F) an SRT4 Caliber and Neon, LT1 Camaro 6MT, Lightning, 350Z and more were doing low 15s @ 93-96 mph all day. That was the last time I went racing here in the summer lol. I never said the new Mustangs were slow, or even SRT4s or anything else for that matter, I am just very realistic about performance whereas most people and magazines are very optimistic.
@gtdrummerdude What you say is very consistent with elevation effect. Seems like all cars are performing less than what they could. The same goes on here. I have about every bolt on but supercharger on an 02 Mustang and it's a high 14 car here...

Weight and HP will tell you most of what you need to know about what a car is capable of. Unless your at 5000ft altitude the times your seeing are incredibly slow. Here in Oklahoma our DA is under 1000ft so we see similar times to what the cars are really capable of. Might want to do a little more research before stating that your local track is reliable.

@KatoKid85 300lbs can make a huge difference...every 100lbs is a tenth in the 1/4 mile basically. Look at diference between dodge, camaro, and 5.0, what seperates them most is weight. all wieght equal the higher HP/tq will win...with only few HP/TQ diff the lighter will when when drivers equal.

@wjmiller80 i had the car three days at thos point. Hit the rev limiter on the first three gears. Then when i changed gears the traction control applied the brakes because the tires tried to spin. I can drive. Go check my track day video. Out of 36 cars i was the fourth fastest in a 2010 gt.

that 67 is a beast, its like 2800lbs compared to the 2011 5.0 being 3600lbs but its due to all the safety and regulations junk etc. So right there alone the 5.0 is 800lbs heavier, plus you got 3 people in the 5.0 so thats another 350lbs or so??? so we are looking at 1150lbs difference. plus the 67 having 4.11 gears.
the 67s are fun but they might be worse in handling, cornering, braking, freeway driving and daily driving, so u had AC on, traction on and 3.55 gears at that time?

most ACs will shut down when you floor the car, the traction controll sucks...on any car...if someone needs that they shouldn't be driving a mustang, not saying you need traction control. it makes the car a lot less manageable in my opinion, I have had 4 GTs that had it and the first thing i did after starting the car was turn that off. one thing ive noticed from many other videos of cars is that alot of people talk about cars they dont have. I dont know anyone in my area who has a GTR. For sure, both of these mustangs are nice. For a 2011 5.0 to be almost equal with a 331 stroker says alot about the car. Especially being that the older one is definetly lighter. I wish i could be old enough to buy one of these new mustangs but for now, i got my 66, with a 4.945 lol. 302.

@B1Springfield i have been lucky enough to race one on the interstate and then meet a guy in my city with one. We have gone to barber motorsports park and a drag strip together. The gtr is a beautiful machine that is so fast. My lap times at barbers were faster but hes a littled scared to realky push it. He wont let me show him what its really capable of. Also i recommend waiting until ur older to purchase a really strong car. You will live longer. My 1st car 65 impala ss my 2nd 85 gt.

Nice car on both sides. When did you buy your 5.0? I haven't had any problems finding dealers with manuals and 3.73 ratios when I've looked; maybe Ford had trouble catching up with demand.

@drewsky2 the easiest way to describe it is to tell you it was purchased as a 6 cyclinder and converted to a muscle car. I believe.it has 4.10 gears. Its fast as you can imagine. Nothing but raw power and much much lighter than my 2011. I also had threw people in my car and some stuff in the trunk.

@lafedean I'm sure i'll think it feels 97 hp faster than the '05 - '10 GT. I drove a 2010 Camaro SS which is close in performance to the 2011 GT. Sure, it put me in the seat, it has 410 hp. Wasn't anything eye-opening though. I'm sure i'd feel the same about the 2011 GT. My intention wasn't to bash any cars, my intention was to state my experience and opinion which is the purpose of the comments section right?

Not surprised. The 2005-2010 GTs that were supposed to run 13.5 @ 105 mph never went any faster than about 14.5 @ 98 mph at my local dragstrip... I'm sure the story is the same with the 2011s

I'm not saying Mustang owners are doing this, but I COULD put a 100 shot of nitrous on my car, make videos of it racing around and say it is just a "factory freak" or any number of similar things. No one would know the difference through youtube.

@gtdrummerdude I spend all my Friday evenings at the local track which is the second busiest in North America. I see countless SRT-4, Cobalt SS and STI. They never do better than low 14s. Altitude is the problem. Same as your track. Bone stock 2011 Mustang 5.0 has been doing low 13s since they were lauched. 11 sec with upper intake, exhaust and 3.73 gears. If those new Mustangs are slow, everything else currently available is.

@guyd37 The last time I was out at the drags here in the summer (110 degrees F) an SRT4 Caliber and Neon, LT1 Camaro 6MT, Lightning, 350Z and more were doing low 15s @ 93-96 mph all day. That was the last time I went racing here in the summer lol. I never said the new Mustangs were slow, or even SRT4s or anything else for that matter, I am just very realistic about performance whereas most people and magazines are very optimistic.

Weight and HP will tell you most of what you need to know about what a car is capable of. Unless your at 5000ft altitude the times your seeing are incredibly slow. Here in Oklahoma our DA is under 1000ft so we see similar times to what the cars are really capable of. Might want to do a little more research before stating that your local track is reliable.
