You what her daughter Liza is in this but she is only mouthing the words because like Judy said always be a first rate version of your self not a second rate version of somebody else and Liza is not a second rate version of Judy she is her own star but it would be nice like I said to here Liza is not Dorothy like her mother but every ounce in a while it would be nice to hear Liza today sing this and pay tribute to her mother in concert.
I think this concert really pin points the beginning of the end for her, she just seems off there, and then with the interview she did with jack paar around the same time and melbourne i dont think she really ever recovered form it and started to slip...
How great is she? So perfect and flawless. This performance always makes me want to cry. And right as she says "oh I've sang this song for so many years" I just smile.
@cutepiku Liza sings her mother's songs very rarely - she has said that Judy told her that she didn't have to and that she thanks her for that - also that "they've been sung" I don't think she would do this unless it was for something VERY special - like a concert dedicated to her mother or something and even then, she probably would only sing parts of it - a "duet" with her mother most likely
@rileyrossi she actually sings her mother's songs quite often: off the top of my head, she's sung The Man That Got Away, The Trolley Song, Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas, Come Rain or come Shine, How Long has This Been Going On, and the end of Over the Rainbow, not to mention singing a video duet with Judy and a bunch of her MGM songs in her show Minnelli on Minnelli
@sellhouse: Actually, her daughters have said that anything Judy has ever said can be taken as an epic joke, since she just had the gravitational sort of humor that made jokes from anything. But [Rainbow] was the one thing not to be joked about, due to how personal the song was to her.
It's the way Judy says 'oh i've sung this song for so many years...' you know what song she is going to sing, bravo Judy Garland, may you still be in history for hundreds of years to come!
wow, if only she was alive now, in England(where i live) not many people adore Judy Garland, and the wizard of oz, the way America does, but Judy, we really do miss you, and no one can sing as fabulously as you did. rest in peace!
It always amazes me when the audience knows a song word for word like that. That part made me well up more than anything. The idea that that song is a part of so many people's collective psyche. The idea that SHE is a part of so many people's collective psyche. Extraordinary. Never another like her. Never.
great song..hey does anyone know of the movie they made about her life? know where it is or how to see it. I thougt it was called beyond the rainbow. but that's not it. any help would be great.
@EnchantedSilence she was NOT tired of singing this song, her voice was hurting because you can hear she wasn't in the best voice. Judy made the song even more magical by letting the audiece sing it with her and it gave the audience the chance to thank her by serenading her the way they did. Just look at judy's face when she heard them sing it back to her.
@EnchantedSilence There is no interview that Judy Garland ever said she didn't like "Over the Rainbow" in fact in 1967 when she was on the TODAY show she said that was the best song ever written. She had great reverance for that song & never joked about it. She rarely sang it on television but always sang it in her concerts. I seen almost every interview and I never heard her say she didnt like the song. Even in her Biographies there never was any mention that she didnt like Over the Rainbow.
@NFitalianGuy: Yeah. [Rainbow] basically become synonymous with her life. It's basically her THEME song! As her daughters would say later, "It's why some people get tears in their eyes when they hear it. It's that personal."
Judy Garland and Somewhere over the Rainbow were my Mom's most favorite. We carreid her to her final resting singing this song. May G-D grant them both eternal rest.
Oh how I love her. Ever since I was little, when my sister first sat me down in front of the tv and popped that Wizard of Oz tape in the vcr, no other singer has ever made me feel quite the way Judy does.
I still get chills when you hear the entire Audience singing along with her. They were like some heavenly chorus. This is the connection Judy and her audience and why Judy loved us so much!
On a Sunday the 22nd of June 1969, The World woke up to the News of Judy Garland's death. The news sent shock waves across the entire planet & for the 7 days the media paid homage to " A Great Lady who had the Ultimate Interview"! Judy, Your fans still mourn your passing. I have the comfort of knowing your spirit was embraced by GOD & that HE showed you HIS infinite peace & all that heaven has too offer you. U brought a lot of joy to me & I thank God for creating you. RIP on this 6/22/10
wow... this is my favourite performance of this song....as she got older i think it meant a lot more to her personally and tht really sdhines through in this perfromance...rest in peace judy
This confirms what everybody always said. Judy was always the impeccable stage mommy. Here she shepards the entire audience as if each and every one were her own little vocal offspring. How dear. Is this from the TV show?
@CARLDAVIDBIRMAN This was on tv for the concert in Nov. 1964. Judy rarely sang OTR on TV. She saved it for her concerts but when we hear it sung on TV, it was a rare treat. She sang this song about 5 times in the14 yrs she did TV shows. This TV moment wasn't from a talk/variety show. It was a Televised concert, & the LP was recorded by Capitol Records. I wish they did the same for the Carnegie Hall Concert. THAT would have been amazing Imagine seeing stars like Marilyn Monroe in the audience?
there is just some people with the ability to perform judy was one of those people i can tell she was just a lovely person i wish i could have known her and goodness she sure did love her kids writing those songs for them and doing everything for them you can tell she loved them by the way she beamed at them
judy asked liza not to sing over the rainbow, because it was her signature song. true story, i'm one of her biggest fans. I wish she was still with us. she was amazing.
not true. She didnt ask her Not to sing them. She told Liza that she should Never feel the need to sing her songs because they were hers....not lizas and she wanted liza to be famous for being liza....not for being judy garlands daughter.

@beeje This was probably from the Judy Garland TV show which aired 1963-64 and Judy (born in 1922) would have been 41 or 42. Liza was born in 1946 and would have been 16 or so.
one dislike must of went the wrong way instead they went and followed the red brick road or they didn't get want they wanted from the wizard of oz.
