@msanjanetta Thanks! These are just heavy cheap cardstock--I like to write with markers, and these pages will let me do that. You could use anything you wanted, though. Good luck!
@dizzylizzy0420 Look for leather garments at your local thrift store--that's where I get most of mine. I've found chaps at garage sales, old stained purses, once I found a torn leather jacket hanging out of a dumpster. Good luck!
@memokk No, I'm not 80. I do have arthritis in my hands that will probably incapacitate me at some point, something I worry about rather a lot, since my hands are my livelihood. Thanks so much for your overwhelming concern.
@ricefz Don't Worry! As long as you have your wits about you, you will find a way to be useful. Especially with computers. You could narrate audiobooks and training materials. You could write (speak) articles on all you learned working with your hands. Life is wonderful, even without hands, be thankful - your mind is your talent.
@52538584 The very best place is to go to thrift stores and buy not-so-great old leather jackets, skirts, vests. Take them apart at the seams, and you've got a ton of leather for cheap. Our local Goodwill has out-of-style leather skirts for less than $5 each--and on Sundays, clothes are half off. Plus you're not buying new leather--endangering animals. You're using old stuff. Good luck!
Awesome snake and very informative video. :) You have nice voice too, so I was not bored while watching this tutorial. Thank you :) Best regards from Poland, Greg
HI! Thank you so much for your help- you are absolutely delightful! I love your messy, eccentric, throwing--things-around-style! Question, though: You have reinforced your leather cover with another piece of leather, with? Glue? If so, what kind?
@atnightifly yikes! i can't remember what kind of glue i used. i like leather glue, but it's hard to find here. i may have used alene's tacky glue--it's usually my Glue of Choice. glad you like the video--thanks!
great, an awl would be perfect for the leatherworking part. I make my own books as well but use leather only for the clasp - and my hands hurt like heck after pre-punching all the holes with a pin! I just made my own bookbinding vids the other dy - I didn't realize there were so many others out there on youtube, I'm excited to see how other people do it!
you can make this with almost anything you have around the house. a pro bookbinder suggests using the cardboard from cereal boxes, etc., to create "green" books--
Hey I can't thank you enough for this! I'm doing a graphic design degree and I'm self- teaching hand made methods like this for my work.. I have a mock-up version of a book to do by tues and this video has really given me excellent tips. Thank you again!
Nice book. Love it. are your pages cardstock or regular paper ?

@ricefz In the same vein, I've skinned a few leather couches that were headed for a dump. More leather than you'd know what to do with.

I use wallpaper paste (Ready-mixed) to glue leather skivers (writing surfaces) to table-tops and in writing slopes.
It works a treat
