@CherrySkyee Being on Broadway doesn't mean you can sing this song. I recently saw Alexia Khadime in the West End as Eponine and she would have completely ruined the show if the rest of the cast weren't so brilliant.

I can't hear any emotion in the words that Lea is singing.

I've seen many Eponine's on stage and Lea Michele is just no where near as good as the majority with this solo.

@sunderlandgirl: Lea Michele NEVER portrayed Eponine on Broadway; she played a young Cosette when she was 9. I think she did a good version of this song, but she's certainly NOT at Lea Salonga's level (to be fair, nobody really is). Voice-wise I prefer Lea Michele's over Frances Ruffelle's' version, though. Although both Lea Michele and Frances Ruffelle have nasality & enunciation issues (with Ruffelle being the better actress), Lea Michele sounds better .

Now, about Lea Michele - I'm surprised why no one coached her to sing this song! Her attack is tentative, her breathing is incorrect, she sustains the wrong words ("known" is overdone while the others are cut abruptly) and her lisp is distracting (those "sss" are glaring)! She's not bad at all, but this doesn't even compete with her own performances (I've seen way better performances from her) and certainly does NOT merit ANY sort of comparison with any of Lea Salonga's performances.

Eponine is a tough, strong-willed street girl upset about her unrequited love for Marius, which is what Salonga portrayed. Critics were so impressed at how close to the book her portrayal was (and how vocally superior she was to ALL Eponines) that the production cast her as THE ideal Eponine in The Dream Cast.

I definitely recommend the Lea Salonga version if you want to hear it right. I'm not trying to rag on this chick's singing, but it just doesn't sound natural. A lot of it sounds like she's trying too hard, and is over-expressing it. (Along with singing through her nose making it sounds extremely nasally at parts.) The Lea Salonga version is softer and much more natural sounding, and just more enjoyable to listen to in my opinion. But kudos to this lady for trying it I guess.

@missmusicgirl0511 Yes Lea Michelle potrayed the role of Eponine on the Broadway revival. I saw one of those revival shows and Broadway did it terribly. Most of the cast they choose was just completely wrong. Lea Salonga (Fantine) and Norm Lewis (Javert) were the only people in the show I saw that made me stay instead of walking out. People forgetting their lines and missing their ques - just pathetic. Broadway just can't do Les Mis, I've never seen a good show of Les Mis there.

They were both spectacular but this year they definately picked out the best casts because it was the 25th anniversary.
