I love how both of Touro marketing video's thank the first responders, police and firefighters and leave out Paramedics. Just not appreciate the actual responders they have contact with more and the 1st responders that evacuated their hospital during Katrina!
By the time they had administered all sorts of tests and several that were pointless--considering my acute fatigue and daily gain of 2 extra pounds of fluid that the weak heart couldn't diffuse through the kidneys--I knew I was dying yet not once did any of the doctors talk to me about anything directly, honestly, frankly, as regarding my options if dialysis was out and the right-sided heart failure was increasing.
An emergency relating to my right-sided heart failure brought me to Touro. I was diagnosed with "Acute Renal Failure" which, as most people know is most likely caused by right-sided failure. However I wasn't checked for that nor was I checked for the painful leg cellulitis after 9 hours of complaining of sharp pains in the lower legs but esp. the left one which was blood-red and dangerously swollen. I saw 5 doctors including infection specialists, cardiologist, nephrologist, and urologist.
The incompressability of fluids should have told all 5 of my doctors at Touro and any nurse with the least common sense that great caution should be exercised when adding ANY fluid by IV especially since I made it very clear that I didn't want unuaual or heroic procedures employed in my care even if by omitting them I would certainly die. I wanted to be comfortable and with that in mind told them repeatedly that morphine had no effect on me at the 2 and 4 mg dose they were using.
I drove alone with chest pains to Touro Infirmary in order to get emergency medical help. Touro Security people yelled when I parked on their ER ramp: "Move that damn car off this ramp!" I refused. I had little left of the Golden Hour. Ten hours later I was moved upstairs to T-6. Touro Security had, unknown to me, moved my car 2 blocks away. In a Tow-Away Zone! When discharged 6 days later 3 parking violation fines came to $80 each. Today, these fines are $240 each! Don't ever seek aid at Touro!
