  • bought one back in 07 had it set up and it sounds incredible

  • i wished i bought one of them

  • To let everyone know, you can still buy these, even they have been discontinued. Go to your local Guitarcenter to see if it is in stock.

  • I own this guitar in a 3 color sunburst like the one in the video not being played and it plays beautifully. Too bad they discontinued this guitar but that makes it worth more after 30 years or so. It was only in production starting about 2006 r 2007 and they discontinued it in may of 2009. The only way to buy one is used but there might be some new ones at some local music store but I love mine and am so proud to be an owner of one of these beauties.

  • how sensative are the pickups?

  • I read on fender website that they're discontinued.

  • can you buy these yet??

  • they are already discontinued man.

  • I got one for sale right now 1200, they're going for 1500-1800 on ebay. mines arctic white, still has plastic on the pick guard...

  • this guitar is amazing

  • this guitar is amazing due to all the tonal option. No more tuning down to drop D, and so forth. I love my Les Paul, but if i do get a new one, this would be it. The only dislike i have is that u have to use batteries.

  • i would hate a guitar which you need batteries cause i would probably never change it and the battery would leak and i would be in trouble

  • @tuscanredrose

I've got 3 electric basses from warwick. they are all active, they all use a 9volt battery to power the electronic. trust me it isn't that bad. you have to change them sometimes, but it really helps to get a good sound

  • how lonog would the batteris last in that guitar though

  • @1ThoughtTheives

My VG Strat goes for about 8-10 hours using rechargeable batteries so it's not as battery hungry as some might think.

  • I want one of these lol.

  • when you are playing in one of the "virtual guitar modes" be it strat, tele, or acoustic, are the three, single-coil pickups being used? or just the roland one?

    thanks :-J

  • Depends on the mode, but yes, the single coils are being used in different configurations along with the Roland p-up, unless, of course, you're in "normal" mode.

  • Just the roland :)

  • whats the song called at 3:52

  • If you like that style listen to The Smiths and Johnny Marr he uses all the kind of 12 string electrics and chorus pedals.

  • i heard outshined by soundgarden

  • Thank god this thing is discontinued. With that pickup its more like a synthesizer. They could have just as well let piano sounds come out of that thing -_-. I prefer the real guitar sound, coming from real pickups.

  • So you don't think an american strat has real guitar sounds? The roland is just extra, your not forced to use it. Take the batteries out, smash the extra pickup to bits, and you still have a great guitar.

  • Wow, i'm impressed

  • give me 3 steps... I think.

  • please can you tell me from what song is that riff at 2:23

  • give me 3 steps...I think

  • its just an improvisation mate, sounds kinda like 2468 motorway though :)

  • Good Stuff!

  • i got a stiffy from that guitar, i'm going to buy one

  • I love it

  • go to fender website is has been discontinued !

  • hey your right! wonder why?

  • Nice demo and a nice versitle guitar

    Thanks

  • i must get 1

  • 4 AA batteries... wtf!

  • when u turn the tuning knob does it work like the gibson robot guitar?

  • nope.

the gibson robot guitar literaly turns the tuning machines to change tunings.

The VG Strat uses the Roland pickup to create the other tunings synthetically.

  • so the tuning is not real? what does it sound like when the guitar is not plugged?? (major wtf!?? :P)

  • like standard tuning

  • Its just sending a different signal to the amp, not changing anything on the guitar.

  • i kinda like that about it, you dont HAVE to use the roland tunings, but you can. its much quicker then tuning while on stage

  • exactly, thats why i like the robot, even though its twice as expensive. At least its real and unique. And it doesnt use 4 AA betteries -.- lolz

  • Even without the batteries it still works an American strat. I have had them out of mine for weeks now and just enjoying my $999 american strat.. Nothing to "lolz" over here.

  • i love people who think batteries make a guitar cheap haha. I heard someone making fun of a guitar with emg actives in it haha screw that guy

  • But isnt it nice to be able to have the souinds of a Gibson, Fender, Baritone, and an Acoustic? All in one? I think that is pretty cool.

  • pure fun.... :)

  • I can't stand how everyone rags on these guitars. its always losers who aren't very good players trying to act like "Purists", and those who try to validate how good they are by saying "A real guitarist uses pedals".

If your gonna rag on it, go back to your piece of shit Squire and keep practicing the first 20 seconds of Through the Fire and Flame... You'll never get it.

  • A real guitarist uses pedals..........

    XD LMAO

  • if a real guitarist uses pedals they are useless without it. real guitarist are those who do not rely on pedals to create good music

  • Guitarists still use pedals to improve their sound. But I think I get what your trying to say.

Its the guitarist, not the gear.

  • Tone is awful.

  • Say if you had the guitar in Drop D but your in the neutral setting and you turned the knob to Drop D would the bottom string go down or stay the same tune?

  • go down

  • Nice i want one (L)

  • Nah...........

  • Useful for a dodgy covers band - but still sounds too processed to me for serious tone-merchants...

Darn this new-fangled modern technology and them-there digital do-whatfers!!

    Great fun though!

  • In my opinion this thing is an over priced little toy. Buy a guiatr for TONE, and learn to tune. The differenet "guitar simulations" are nominal at best.

  • This might be just what I was looking for.I don't want to beat up my 513 Rosewood. This would be fun to abuse.:0)

  • The Gibson robot has died!

  • Abomination.

  • take batteries out of system

and play a note on normal and turn the switch to a different setting and thee you go

    a killswitch

  • does it actualy tune it to those tunings or does it simulate it??????????????

  • check the new gibson darkfire! its mental bro

  • i saw it

it looks and sounds awesome and it tunes it self!!!

  • the darkfire is cool but i like this better

  • simulates

  • i got a regular strat with a fender amp and it can take a lot of distortion but This is so much cooler cuz it can get all thoes tones insted of just the normal 5 way switch

  • can u switch out the fender pickups for duncans & still get all the VG effects???

  • yeh because it comes out of the roland pickup not the standard febder magnet pickups, as long as you replace them and not the roland pickup, i should be good. Thinking of doing to mine!

  • hey d you guys know what tuning is the baritone tuning in?

  • i think b-e-a-d-g-b-e

  • Two words: FENDER JAGUAR

release 46 years ago and is 46 times better

  • thats an opinon the jaguar cant take as much distortion as a strat

  • It takes WAAAYY more! Jags love distortion- especially the early 90s ones

  • how much is it???

  • list price is about 2,200 i think but i've found it for 1,600

  • where have you seen it for 1,600? bout to try and get my local guitar shop to ween the price down a bit

  • list price for musicians friend is 1,749.99. pretty sure my local fender dealer is the same price-ish.

  • I am not really into all the new gear revolutions, so maybe my question is a bit dumb, but anyway: there are all these digital amps recreating all those different sounds, why don't those manufacturers also build guitar model sounds into it? And also, if you want to play all-out tube (for instance Fender), wouldn't a guitar like this bring you back into your so-hated digital area? Or is there no modelling or digital stuff at hand?

  • dude i dont know, i hate digital also but this guitar is AMAZING. AMAZING is all i can say

  • they should make this out of Les paul or a V. robot guitar is just bit awkward and it cant change sounds

  • robot guitar is sick man..

it can't change sounds but you can tune faster and more accurate than tuning manually in a fender.

  • thats why you get one of these

  • This is actually pretty freaking sweet. I wouldn't buy one though. I don't know about everyone else but having one guitar that can do everything kinda takes away the fun of having a wall full of guitars and the excuse that you need them all for the different sounds they produce. lol.

  • its good for people on a smaller budget who can't afford a wall of guitars/

  • Well this could just add to your collection. I mean I'm sure, because there's the roland pickup in there, it wouldn't sound exactly like a tele, and honestly didn't even really sound that much like an acoustic guitar it sounded more like a a chorus effect, I know what you're saying though. But for a guitarist who plays a gig every night this could be a good tool instead of bringing an extra 100 lbs of gear. Goop point

  • watch awesome tibetan guitarist (from switzerland?!), he will blow you away! just look for "purtag" (his name)

  • careful young folks out there, next thing will be A guitar that playes itself like those crappy organs, and it will suck the talent right out of ya.

  • I gotta agree ...it reminds me of the old idiot proof instrument gags one used to read in Mad magazine...Still...the technology that has gone into the creation and design is pretty amazing.

Case in point ..the twelve string feature. I can see a lot of Strat players getting one of these to preclude the necessity of lugging a dozen guitars around. Imagine what will happen to Gibson sales if they put a Gibson emulator on this thing and it actually works. Ha ha

    Progress... sigh....

  • i think the extra knobs look abit ugly, atleast compared to a normal strat

  • Pretty sweet but where's the cup holder?

  • lol

  • how long do the batteries last?

  • 12 hours 4 aa, I tried this guitar out, and its really awesome instrument if the price was about 8 to 9 hundred, just to have but. I would suggest to buy A nice strat and stomp boxes if you want to change the sound. who knows how long the built in components will last.

  • for some players it makes sense, for example when i play gigs i only have like 5-10 minutes to set everything up. and with the setup i have i dont have enough time to through out enough stomp boxes for all the effects this guitar comes with. Also, the tuning is a great idea if you have only 45 minutes of showtime. the only thing i would have changed would have been the addiction of a half step tuning.

  • all that "it sounds like 30 different guitars" technology, its all complete crap if you want a really decent sound, which you would if you were buying an american strat. like on a 12 string theres loads of overtones and to play one feels completely different from a electric guitar. its these things that affect the tone so that it cannot be recreated by Mr roland. does look fun to play around with though =)

  • And u say this from experience playing this guitar? Get ur hands on one b4 knocking it

  • Fender VG > Gibson robot.

  • If this had a floyd and 24 frets it would be perfect for me... But i know its a fender and not an ibanez or something. Still a very versitile and unique guitar. Good job fender

  • yeah me 2 i got an ibanez but i kinda want a strat but it would be nice 4 it 2 halve a floyd

  • I played one for quite a while. It sounds fake in the digital mode. Decent in the normal magnetic pickups only mode. Where it is basically just your standard USA Strat. And in that mode it is respectable as it should be. As far as those digital tunings, if you don't mind a fake digital amp sounding guitar its simply OK. Pick articulation and dynamics are lost. Yes it sounds exactly like this low-fi video. I'd rather have two basic non-digital guitars.

  • WOW it is nasty!!!

  • So just say you run out of batteries... can you still play it using an amp?

  • i want that guitar so much it looks so awesome i would give my left nut 4 that guitar

  • my favorite guitar.the fender VG stratocaster

    spacificly.

  • i dont really like it.

its just cool to have 5 guitars switching between songs and have to tune and changing amp settings... this is just for lazy guitarists... i am 17 years old so born in the digital world.. but a guitar has a soul and character.. this just is a robot. without character and soul.

  • Im 14 and just learning guitar, i feel the same way, im playing my dads old Fender Strat and i would never trade it for one of these Fender SHITocaster, robot guitars.

  • yea but this gives you the regular strat...but like a bunch of guitars in one, so why not?

  • Insane guitar that is.

  • I have this guitar and if anyone is thinking about getting it i highly recommend it, and it pretty much sounds in person the way it sounds in this video so dont think theyre making it sound awesome just so youll buy and then get it and it suck, because it doesnt!

  • hi..

is it possible to change the pickups in the vg?would like to put som DiMarsio's in there...

  • heard gibson has that sam type og guitar withc cam out first ( one with diffrent tuning and sounds

  • robot guitar and its shit all it does is tunes itself and change strings easier its not hard to learn how to do that this guitar has more tone options and changes tuning all at the turn of a knob vg strat= a helluva lot simpler

  • the baritone solo sounds crazy

  • if you change the tuning to drop D and unplug the guitar would it still be in drop d or only whe the guitar is plugged in?

  • Only when it is plugged into the amp. It is electronic and the string tension never changes

  • dude he point f the batteries is soo you cna play he guiatr wierlessly

  • hey how much does this hot baby costs???

  • about $1700 US MSRP

  • why do u need batteries?!?!!

  • yeah thats what I was Wondering !!

  • to power the tone adjuster thing

  • For the roland incorporated system to work...

  • i want one but ill have to work all summer for it comon Giant tigre

  • around 3:40 he played kashmir by led zepplin

  • its just as important as having strings on it

  • I like very much what you play at 4:10. Can you tell me what it is?

  • It's just a little melody, nothing special or from any particular song.

  • I would sell my soul for one of these...

  • if u did that u wouldnt be able to play anymore :) u need soul brother

  • lol dude listen to some jimi hindrex ^.^ (Power of Soul is the song i'm talking about) keep your soul give something else

  • Line 6 Variax > Fender VG

  • let us not forget the variax is very ugly

  • Man it sounds awesome. Just curious; what type of amp is it being played through?

  • Just a little Fender Amp

  • couldn't agree more, the vg beats the pants off of gibson's robot-guitar. They're not cheap, but not unreasonable either. Just bought one! Traded in my strat.

  • itd be nice if the batteries wouldn't run out every 3 minutes...

  • they need to put in recargeable batteries in it or something because regular batteries will probably run out in an hour or something like that

  • They need to build a tazer into the guitar as well just in case SOYBOMB tries any of his old tricks again.

  • this guitar easly beats the new gibson robot

  • this guitar is awesome.

my one nitpick is that it should have a built in rechargeable battery, so you could just leave it plugged in to the amp, but then, say, plug a standard power cable into the back to recharge, instead of replacing the batteries twice a week.

  • Yeah well MY guitar has lasers for strings

  • cool this guitar is very useful than that gibson robot that only have and auto tunning cost much more than than this guitar

  • that is a cool guitar!!!!

  • Lol batteries...cute

  • reapersaga u know even if the batteries run out u still can jam on just a regular american strat

  • that would save buying all those different guitars....

  • are you sacrafi anything since it dose not have secont tone knob

  • lol i would rather have all these cool features then a stupid second tone knob

  • Yeah its Really cool I wish I had it. I love the Classic Fender sound, bright, and also has a twang to it.

  • i like it..........

  • i need that. right now.

  • aww you've got to be bullshitting me it sounds just like an acoustic guitar on that setting

  • wat do pickups do execept sound?

  • Uhm...nothing?

  • the alt tunings sound good on the video...they ALWAYS sound good on the video. This is virtual, but the "robot" les paul actually tunes it. Would it sound as good as it does in the video? I started with a cheaper strat ($350) then got a standard SG (The one without finish, so $579). I'm looking at a new one, and caught in between this, the robot, and just a good old strat. Anyone who has this, please tell me if it's as good as it is in the demonstrations.

  • I have played one in the store several times and it is just as good as in the demo

  • humbuckers, strat, tele, acoustic.. tuning on a dial! battery powered? the blue LED light!! GENIUS!!

  • i wonder what's better?Gibson or Fender?hmmmm.....

  • I know it: Chuck Norris.

  • hmm, i am thinking Fender..but maybe. . .

  • I think it depends on what sound you want to get, since you name is heavy metal I would go with a gibson.

  • Yup, it depends on the sound you want. Gibson's are amazing for meaty sounds, Fenders are good for cleaner sounds the can distort better. I love my Les Paul and Strat equally though...

  • Can you still use the guitar through an amp without having any batteries in it?

  • yes, and it has the good ole strat sound

  • this is a seriously cool piece of work but i think they should've gone a little further on some things. They should have added CGCFAD as an optional tuning (or a step further allow you to tune individual strings but i can't think of a simple way to do that) and gave it a midi-out as well that would seriously make this an all in one

  • acoustic model is very cool

  • what song is that part at 2:24 ive been tryin to find out forever

  • so the stratocaster mode(not normal)sounds like fender vintage noiseless pickups like the ones on the deluxe players strat?

  • yep

  • just wondering.. im not a fan of those american series pickups.. would it be possible to remove those and install a different pickup without wrecking the roland pickup?

  • yes you can do it without any problem or interference at all

  • i prefer schecter and fender i mean ur greatest guitarist use fender stevie ray ,hendrix, clapton, gibsons are good but there price is way more than what there worth

  • So does this tune itself like that new Gibson guitar?

  • No, it doesn't. You have to tune it to standard tuning, then with the alternate tuning knob you can select the alternate tuning desired and the roland technology electronically changes the tuning with zero latency making it immediate.

  • i love the vg strat fender gibso sucks sucks suck gibson suck man fender rules

  • i Would prefer fender than gibson ,this guitar is extremly good,so les paul sucks !!!

  • i dont think gibson is better than fender.this guitar has killed les paul
