If you do this you better link the stories together but the experience is ruined by the fact that the play styles clash so much. If you play chrono cross a while after you play chrono trigger then it turns out to be a pretty good game you may not entirely understand the story but its not bad. Given the 40 playable characters is a bit much its still not bad
Magus is stong enough to take lavos in my opinion. Hate they make seem like a weak ass. Turning him into guile was like a slap in the face. I hope the next game gets shxt right..

@madashell1200 I've done it with Magus solo (I thought it would be fitting), it's HARD. If it uses Heavenly Peal and you haven't used Barrier, you will more than likely die, even with ** Magic Defence. Starfall, Life Reaver, Gravity Sphere and The End of All and Nothing all force you to heal unless you want to die, so you have very little time to attack and all in all it's a very long battle.
epic battle music, brings back so many memories of the game on SNES, yes i have the original cartridge with everyone at lv99, took many years of my childhood and many Newgame plus to get everything to the max.

I don't think I like this ending, it doesn't coincide with Chrono Trigger. It doesn't carry any philosophy of Chrono Trigger. Its a failed excuse to make a connection to Chrono Cross, just to shut everyone's complaints about 'Where's Chrono Break?' Nintendo is more than giving license and putting games on their systems, some of their employees had helped with the making of CT. And the scenes of Baby Kid appearing before Lucca, Crono & Marle marrying, ect was made after Sqaure defunctioned and the merged with Enix, this caused many copyrighted issues among the subject of Chrono Trigger. Since the members has split Chrono serie plot is messy.
The thing I don't like about Chrono Cross is that the whole game feels like: "Hey! Remember the epic quest of CT and how much you struggled to save the world? Well I clean my snots with it *Trollface*"

@Wizlem1 No, the Lavos does exist in the DS version. This is in the future after you beat him. He merges with Schala from within the darkness beyond time. So it is probably in some sort of after game super-boss, I don't know, I don't have the DS version.
@Wizlem1 You beat the game like normal, once you beat it, 3 new portals open up in 3 of the time periods. Anyway, at the end of each of them you have to fight a clone of Chrono, Marle or Lucca. Also you have to fight Dalton again in one of them and they imply that he's the one that leads Porre to take over Guardia before CC. So then the portal to fight this boss opens and as you can see, even though they clearly denied that Guile was Magus before, now they imply he is with no memory.

Originally Guile was supposed to definitively be Magus, but they didn't have time to included the storyline during development, so they just had Guile be a shadowy, possibly Magus, possibly not type of character. When this DS version came out, it appears they retconned the plot allowing Magus to be Guile again, because he doesn't "remember" who he is.
@masamune2984 So true, then again, they should make this an official anime series, but then again the game itself is an anime on the playstation 1 version, well they made an OVA where Akira Toyriama wrote some of the script, but it was just the white monkey dude that you get free tents, and the Nuu, so all and all, only hope can decide lol. new dragon ball heroes is comming out soon for a new series along with the new Heroes Movie.

I was just trying to explain why Serge was heard by Schala, besides of luck. This would give a reason to Serge being heard by Schala AND explain Magus whereabouts too. Two birds with one blow only.
Then where Magus fits on Chrono Cross story after this? Was he warped to El Nido? If so, Is he Serge's father?
That's the only thing I can think about to explain why Serge's the protagonist on Chrono Cross and why Schala have been touched by his cry. If Magus simply disappears after those events, then nothing have been explained at all, except by minor details.

@mvhupsel Magus is Guile in Chrono Cross. Guile was going to be one of the protagonists of the game with Serge and Kid, something very similar to Radical Dreamers (if you didn't played it I really recomend you to do it) but Masato Kato gave up doing this because planning the game with Magus (Guile) got a little controversial and tougher than he thought it'd be.
But Magus is there, as Guile. Do you remember his first words during CC when you encounter him? So go figure
@megalukes I already knew that Guile were idealized to be Magus and i've played RD too, but RD is just a parallel story, so i can't consider it. Plus, the creators said that Guile is not Magus, so he's not. He were supposed to, but he's not.
Yet, what i want to know is why Serge's the protagonist of CC. Was he random chosen by Schala, or he had a bond with her? A link with Magus could be the reason of Schala hearing Serge's cry, since Magus is her brother. This is just one of my theories. =)

They need to make a third chrono trigger game, that isn't a remake, that actually...well, tells an end to Schala's little story. I just read on the chronopedia about her, cause I never understood what happened to her, and they say its still indefinite as to what happened to her after the events of Chrono Cross. @MegaDogTrainer Technically speaking, they're retconning CT into CC.... where as it USED to be that CT connected with Radical Dreamers... an ill fated 'first run' where most of the connections to CT were more obvious. That game got redone into CC, and now the CT story retconned into connection
You can get this by defeating Lavos AFTER the Black Omen, saving Then instead of New Game+ you CONTINUE,Go through the 3 new mini-dungeons called Dimensional Vortexes.
After that you will ahve an option in the 1999 bucket to go where the video starts at.
@andrevus2 I agree with you. I've beaten this boss before. It's hard. I only won cause I got lucky on crits with Robo equipped with the Apocalypse Arm (which does 9999 damage on a critical, much like Ayla's LV99 fist)
@GamerzHideaway Eh i didn't find him that hard.Level 51 crono spammed Luminaire while level 49 Frog and Level 48 Marle spammed Double Cure and occasionally a Haste.
@andrevus2 Mm, true. The boss is long, but worth it. After you kill him, you get the best weapon for Chrono: The Dream Seeker. And with a crit rate of 90%, the only weapon that comes close is the Rainbow (also for Chrono), which has a crit rate of 70%
What's sad is that they milk Final Fantasy to nothing, but Chrono Trigger never got any kind of real good sequal. We ended up with Chrono Cross, a good game, but it left you scratching your head a bit. After that, nothing. It's quite a shame.
Magus is my favorite character in Chrono Trigger and this is partly why. Doing everything in your power to save someone only to be told you can't do it. So the only thing you can do is to wipe your memory and end up wandering the planet looking for a purpose.

Did they change this so that it tied more into Chrono Cross??? I liked the original ending better, where it's a mystery as to what the hell happened to Schala. Then in Chrono Cross, you find out.

@SPS148669 well the colours were washed out on the GBA because of the lack of a backlight, so they made the games brighter to compensate for that. As for the sound...I agree

@hotboxingisfun Might I suggest playing Radical Dreamers (you can find a good translation on the net), then replaying Chrono Cross? That is if you can remember everything from Trigger, if not, then replay that as well. Really, I thought it made perfect sense with all three of them! Good luck, enjoy.
@ImpotentGawd Unfortunately for you and your opinion... this new boss is a huge nod to Chrono Cross. I am pretty sure Square, at the very least, counts it and they are the ones whose opinions on it matter.
This is where I felt the worst for Magus. He knows that there is nothing he can do to save Schala and erases his memories of who he was. It's just... heartbreaking, know that you really don't have much of a purpose in the world and the one purpose that you had cannot even happen.
Magus is probably the most tragic game character I've ever seen.

story wise this was the saddest part of the game. poor janus spent his whole life searching for his sister, and finally finds her only to lose her again, this time permanently. wish they included his story in chrono cross lazy bastards.

@strife725 She's not evil, it's just that simply attacking the Dream Devourer has no effect on it. You need to separate Schala and Lavos, which can only be done with the Chrono Cross.
@joaoaspimienta The whole plot of Chrono Cross is the answer to the question. The short answer is to use techiques of various colors in a specific order and then use the Chrono Cross.
@joaoaspimienta The Chrono Cross is a long lost element, is the fusion of "Tear of Hate" and "Tear of Love" both Tears are a part from the Dragon Tear of both Home and Another world, I Strongly Recomend you to play Chrono Cross even if it's no a direct sequel to CT it got a lot of elements from it :)
@joaoaspimienta Almost forgot, The Chrono Cross is the Only One Power in the world that can help Schala and unifie the split dimensions, Chrono Cross is a very enigmatic, original and poetic game, it's deeper respect CT and the plot it's very dificult to get at the first try but you eventually get to understand everything even its conextion with CT

@croten12 This is Lavos after you beat him in the original ending, he gets sent to the Darkness Before Time, along with Schala (from the Ocean Palace incident). They merge and become the Time Devourer, with this, the Dream Devourer, being the intermediate stage.
Chrono Cross was a total joke and an insult to what Chrono Trigger stood for. This tacked-on ending, when added to the rest of Chrono Trigger, only proves how ridiculous Chrono Cross was.
Its own game - sure. A sequel - hell no. It's an abomination of a sequel.
This ending is still so sad. Poor Janus, forever searching for a way to free his sister. =(

I just read on the chronopedia about her, cause I never understood what happened to her, and they say its still indefinite as to what happened to her after the events of Chrono Cross. @Zalibidas I think this boss is the Time Devourer before it became the Time Devourer...the end of the battle is when they integrate. ^_^ It would make sense for a boss inserted into a later Chrono Trigger, to further link the two games.

@MegaDogTrainer Technically speaking, they're retconning CT into CC.... where as it USED to be that CT connected with Radical Dreamers... an ill fated 'first run' where most of the connections to CT were more obvious. That game got redone into CC, and now the CT story retconned into connection

You can get this by defeating Lavos AFTER the Black Omen, saving Then instead of New Game+ you CONTINUE,Go through the 3 new mini-dungeons called Dimensional Vortexes.
After that you will ahve an option in the 1999 bucket to go where the video starts at.

@andrevus2 I agree with you. I've beaten this boss before. It's hard. I only won cause I got lucky on crits with Robo equipped with the Apocalypse Arm (which does 9999 damage on a critical, much like Ayla's LV99 fist)

@andrevus2 Mm, true. The boss is long, but worth it. After you kill him, you get the best weapon for Chrono: The Dream Seeker. And with a crit rate of 90%, the only weapon that comes close is the Rainbow (also for Chrono), which has a crit rate of 70%

What's sad is that they milk Final Fantasy to nothing, but Chrono Trigger never got any kind of real good sequal. We ended up with Chrono Cross, a good game, but it left you scratching your head a bit. After that, nothing. It's quite a shame.

Magus is my favorite character in Chrono Trigger and this is partly why. Doing everything in your power to save someone only to be told you can't do it. So the only thing you can do is to wipe your memory and end up wandering the planet looking for a purpose.
One of the most emotional stories I've ever come across.

Did they change this so that it tied more into Chrono Cross??? I liked the original ending better, where it's a mystery as to what the hell happened to Schala. Then in Chrono Cross, you find out.

This is where I felt the worst for Magus. He knows that there is nothing he can do to save Schala and erases his memories of who he was. It's just... heartbreaking, know that you really don't have much of a purpose in the world and the one purpose that you had cannot even happen.
Magus is probably the most tragic game character I've ever seen.

this battle was such a pain. my guys are high enough level and all have the best gear BUT he is tricky as hell to fight. I kept healing him with one of the spells i cast prolonging this dam fight for like 20 mins lol
story wise this was the saddest part of the game. poor janus spent his whole life searching for his sister, and finally finds her only to lose her again, this time permanently. wish they included his story in chrono cross lazy bastards.

@strife725 She's not evil, it's just that simply attacking the Dream Devourer has no effect on it. You need to separate Schala and Lavos, which can only be done with the Chrono Cross.

@joaoaspimienta The Chrono Cross is a long lost element, is the fusion of "Tear of Hate" and "Tear of Love" both Tears are a part from the Dragon Tear of both Home and Another world, I Strongly Recomend you to play Chrono Cross even if it's no a direct sequel to CT it got a lot of elements from it :)

@croten12 This is Lavos after you beat him in the original ending, he gets sent to the Darkness Before Time, along with Schala (from the Ocean Palace incident). They merge and become the Time Devourer, with this, the Dream Devourer, being the intermediate stage.

Chrono Cross was a total joke and an insult to what Chrono Trigger stood for. This tacked-on ending, when added to the rest of Chrono Trigger, only proves how ridiculous Chrono Cross was.
