  • preach! thanks so much for this vid! it had me aggreeing and laughing!

  • I'm a black female. I play guitar. Apparently some people think you have to be white to play instruments. When your Neon by John Mayer ringtone rang, you gave me hope.

    Love your videos.

  • @Norman7sev what's with the hate? I haven't done a thing to you and matthew isn't a bad person either

  • Some people can't handle change. I'm sure other vikings were pissed when one would stop pillaging and move onto something else; even though Hagar still told those guys, "do you."

  • haha

    you change shirts

  • mannn i can relate to this. i had both white people n black people called me an oreo just because of my eclectic taste of music , most of the time i talk proper english, i dont use that much slang and because im nice and polite. i love that point you made about people wanting others to "do you". great stuff

  • I'm white, grew up in the "white hood" where the older white guys would get black guys and hang them upside down on street poles all freakin night. Some ass holes are proud of that part of the "white hood" or as we called it the "neighborhood" I agree with this guy, "not everything in the hood is to be proud of "!!

  • You are leaving them behind. They have one less in the group.I had the same problem when I was getting A's in school a hundred years ago,and I am white as a lily. And a hick to boot! You are being an example of what others could be if they tried, and rather than do that, they want to drag you back down. You are right,it ain't a race thing.Thats just a convenient excuse.Peace On,Fellow Human!

  • i totally feel u!!!!

  • They're all envious of your intellect and eloquence. The only way to deteriorrate stereotypes is to counter act them with your own attitude.

  • watch?v=Hk1m9xstFzk

this is a video I posted on this scenario,

  • I can actually relate to this, people still tease me based on my long straight hair

this is a video I posted about it 2 years ago, I'm sorry that you had to go through the same ordeal I did, I'm glad you stick by your beliefs

  • Great video; in high school people use to say I acted white because i spoke properly and such. I used to get so tired of hearing. After I got to college I realized that the people who used to say that, were most likely jealous that I was going to have a future and they weren't. I finally got that mindset of not caring what people think about me, because the only person that have to answer to is myself. Good video man I feel you on this

  • People call me a twix, because I'm not completely black/white from the inside..

  • You don't look like an Oreo.... You look like a god damn Coffe ground!!!!!

  • @LAblueandblacc you're hilarious! ...oh, no you're not #fail

  • @dunte86 Hmmm..if I had to put a finger on it you look like a combination between Malcolm X and Lil Waynes ball sack.

  • @LAblueandblacc you touch ball sacks huh, you should find a better hobby

  • @LAblueandblacc he really does have a great complexion! nice spelling btw douchebag..... try reading more often dumb fuck.

I love the point you made about people saying "do you". The most amazing thing about the hood mentality is that it's so insular. People go around chanting these mantras as a collective defense mechanism. There is no fucking individuality whatsoever. Everyone watches BET, wears fitteds and cares WAY too much about FITTING IN.... all there is to fit in with is STUPIDITY. FUK

  • thumbs up

  • i love your long black videos

  • It is SO refreshing to hear a young black man like yourself speak out about this. I am a 34 yr. old white woman and watching you speak was awesome. You should have a FB page for others to join if you don't already. Don't stop voicing your thoughts. Younger (gosh ,even elementary age) black males NEED to hear this!!! You could really impact their lives!!

  • wow. i used to live in the hood too. never heard of anyone say i wish i could live in the hood. once they come and experience it, they will change their mind quick

  • I've been in the "Why don't you act black" situation multiple times. It pisses me off so much. The worst part is that it's my own damn family who says it most of the time. My own family, wanting me to change myself and live up to a bunch of bullshit stereotypes. Seriously? -_-

  • i see your hair has grown a lot since that video :-)

  • i see your hair has grown a lot since that video :-)

  • i see you hair has grown a lot since that video :-)

  • just saying hello . . I just watched one of your videos for the first time re :oreo . . . Anyhow i really enjoyed what you had to say . . I am from the hood, still here, but i agree so much i subscribed . .

  • I hate to hear people get called stupid names like "oreo" My uncle & some other cousins used to call my younger cousin an Oreo when he was little. It upset him so he started trying to "act black" (listening to rap/changing his voice) & some of the stuff he does is stupid. It seems crazier when he does it since he grew up around nothing but a suburban, predominately white enviornment.

  • Last time I checked, an Oreo was adorable!

  • loooooooooooooooooool. i have a friend who's an oreo

and i call her dat with my otherr friends buh it juss a jokee :]

and she gets itt.. she aint offended by it or nardaa. sooo yehh..

  • I worked at juvenile hall, and the kids would say stop talking like a "white boy." What is black? What is white? What is asian or hispanic? Fitting into a racial stereotype is stupid and counter productive. Calling someone not "authentically black," is actually a type of a logical fallacy. It is the "no true Scotsman fallacy." Well, I completely agree with you.

  • Next time when ppl say that ur an oreo u should be like "no I'm not because I'm not really black I'm brown" because most African American aren't really black they have brown skin n there's no such thing as white ppl unless some1 paints their body entirely white

  • I feel U homie but last time I heard oreo people were people who R part black part white like myself.

  • no disrespect but ppl aint friendly no mo

  • comments like that come from folks who have a narrow, television-assisted impression of what it means to be Black; if someone transcends those expectations, this is confusing because it proves their belief system to be flawed. rather than rethinking your belief system or expectations, most people will just try to come up with a label to make the confusion go away so they can feel better wthout actually having to think. get your education and get away from folks like that as quickly as possible.

  • Why do people make problems of the skin colors?

Im white, but i have very much respect for black people!

    SAY NO TO RACISM!

  • hey man, ive been told by my white friends that i wasnt black since the 6th grade... i look around and see people of all "races" trying to imitate the "thuggin image" and it saddens me because its all the product of media and a very narrow interperatation of other lifestyles.

  • You speak the truth! I too wish more people would wake up and work their way out of 'the hood'. It's just a better way of living!

  • Here's another way to look at the definition of an oreo:

An oreo is a black person who's

    Open-minded

    Rational

    Educated, and

    Optimistic.

I don't know about everyone else, but I rather be an OREO than a low life "hood nigga"

  • So what were you BEFORE Lil Wayne?? HMM...??

  • @SkyHyghProductions no offense... but what the hell is that supposed to mean? Lin Wayne does not define me in ANY way. I am and always will be Jamal. Nothing like that man and i'm happy about it.

  • @dunte86 You don't get it at all. I guess that's my fault. But what I meant was you said in your video people told me I'm not black because I don't like Lil Wayne. So what were you before Lil Wayne hmm how come he is what makes you black??? And there is no problem with you being you. I am going into 9th grade and I had to explain to a fellow brother that there is no such thing as acting your race it's being you. So I completely get it.

  • @SkyHyghProductions AHHH I See... My bad lol

  • @dunte86 it's all good...it happens

  • haha your cool. xD

  • I love this

  • I totally agree. I don't understand why 'getting your hustle on' and being articulate and educated became mutually exclusive. Many a time I have been ostracized from the traditional 'black' people groups. I used to feel sort of...not cool, since I hadn't came from the hood (not saying I lived it easy), and all my friends did, and I admit at times I would pretend to be more ghetto than I actually was. Thank god I'm over that phase. lol.

  • Black people stereotype against black people more than any other race.

  • what the fuck is thuggin Image? just because somebody looks a certain way doesnt mean they are trying to be a certain way buddy

  • @Arctichayze18 I understand that, but i'm talking about how people act. Image is more than the way you look.

  • If you can label a group of characteristics as "thug" why cant people label another group of characteristics as "oreo"? labels simply dont work when applied to people, we are too varied

  • @Arctichayze18 touche' touche' Great point

  • Let's be reaistic here...some black people do try to act white, point blank and simple...speaking correctly/standand English, is not acting white; speaking correctly ( with a valley acent or very nasal) it trying to hard to act white. You know the difference and so do I. I HATE when people say speaking correctly is acting white **NEWS FLASH** all white people don't use standard English...Sometimes we give them TOO much credit...

  • Being black is a complicated thing. Some ppl think a skin color is just a skin color. It is easy for a white person to feel that way, but as you know because of our history, our self loathing, and our oppression, it can't be just a skin color to us no matter how hard we try to see it that way. We have racism from other races, but then there is the internal one within our own race. Some of us still see ourselves as lowly and unequal to the white man. We still have a long way to go :)

  • what do you mean by acting white? do you mean you cause genocide on every land you have so-called "discovered!", Do you drive pick up trucks and use Meth as your drug of choice? Do you destroy everything you touch? do you base all of your thoughts about a person on stereotypes? Do you have a small dick? Do you live in trailer homes? Are you easily brainwashed by news pundents? Do you have sex with family members? does your church cover up pedophilia?

if so, you do act white!

  • wow ...that was very un called for. no need to bash like that. Let's keep it positive

  • i get called oreo all the time

  • black people and niggers are different a nigger is an uneducated black person actually smart black epole have told me this

  • @thebigcheese1100 and actuall black people are smart and educated

  • agree!

  • Who the fuck says oreo?

  • @kingadaboom a loooooot of people...damn where have you been

  • charlotte aint nobody say that around heer the only time i heard it is ween theres 3 people on a school bus seat and the 2 on the out side r black an the middle one is white lol

  • what is that? a threesome with 2 black guys on the top and bottom and a white bitch in the middle?

  • @Roklan2000 sure but i aint even bout to get in a dam argument over youtube come on

  • People say the same thing to me because the way my voice is and i talk proper and i dont listen to rap music. Instead of putting you down there putting yourself up and putting thereselves down instead. People are so trapped in a box.

  • dude, chill. do your thang. don't worry about haters. your topic is old as the 70's. get your knowledge and excel. this is not a black world. ask obama. just get all you can and can all you get. read, study, capture, apply, excel, then laugh and sit back and enjoy. don't trip. squash ignorance. white, oreo, sell out, bougie, boule, house negro, conservative, you talk white; i've heard it all of my life. i don't trip. just count my benjamins and enjoy life and lift up others. it feels good.

  • agreed dunte 86

  • HA HA HA HA HA LOL OMG that tittle is funny :)

  • i have noticed dat...niggas in the hood like it there..it aint like back in the day when everyone is trying to get out out the hood..now people wanna stay in it...is poverty the new thing now?

  • @dirtyplaya It's street credit. That means pride to that culture. It's like... a more reverse 'moral' code of the Japanese bushido in a way.

  • @dragames shit is retarded doe lol

  • Go see this racist fool beacons4life1 and look at his one uploaded vid. He has no reguard for our African American race.

  • lol the only reason my profile name is oreo the puppy cuz my dog is named that. he is black with a white belly n black paws

  • all this talk about cookies is making me hungry....

  • Keep doing you and stay true. and I'm a white dude from Alabama and I would never demoralize or make racist remarks like I am stereotyped to be. Were all human. And color is just how God made our skin to look like. It's whats on the inside that makes us an Individual. Much love.

  • i see you got that John Mayer for your ringtone thats cool

  • Happens To me All the time.

Just because I don't talk like

a "g" am educated and talk properly.

  • DUDE I TOTTAL AGREE!!!!!! im black and in middle skool it really pisses me off when people say im an "oreo" WOPPTY FRIKIN DO i say dude every sentence... so wats rong with that? i skate and really hate rap...no all but most of it....i listen to system of a down and korn....i now exactly wat u mean....

  • there's a lot of people that hate rap music these days because of rappers like lil wayne and solja boy......didn't korn break up since Head left the band

  • ur black dont worry bout it

  • my favorite is "you don't smoke newports you aint black" fuck it we're all killing ourselves, Id rather kill myself with camel frost cigarrets

  • im black and i dont live in the hood but i think that ghettoness is dis tasteful and stupid and i dont like hipohop music.

  • I love good tasteful hip hop... but that is so rare now...

  • I appreciate your comments...I definitely concur. I go to a predominantly white and jewish University near Boston and I've definitely had my instances where other students(particularly white) would be surprised that I articulate myself the way I do, but yet still spoke ebonics from time to time. I whole heartedly agree w/ you and others' comments and I also believe in what Obama said that we should "determine our own destinies." Much respect hun

  • I not only get called an "oreo" But i also get called white washed. It pisses me off :\ But i like to find friends that are black and share the same issues and problems that I have. I think it's mostly because i like rock metal and screamo. And talk properly :| But oh well it's my life and i choose how i want to live it :)

  • I agree

  • People who refer to people as "Oreos" need to wake up. They have a limited way of thinking. Maybe seeing the way you behave gets them to question they're own behaviour. So they feel threatened and lash out. Being "ghetto" is a state of mind, it's an insular way of thinking. I don't even respond to people who say things like "Oreo" or whitewashed. As far as I'm concerned they're Brian washed.

  • AMEN!!!

  • I really enjoyed your video. I can't believe the girl saying she wanted to the ghetto! If my parents ever heard me say that it would be war! My parents came from nothing and worked hard (not that people in the ghetto don't) and made it, so you can definitely do the same.

  • Much appreciated, and my parents did the same, which is why i'm no longer in the ghetto

  • same for me

  • thats some old hood mentality type shit, do you bro, fuck what others think. i think the whole oreo shit is dumb. theres more to the world than that little 6 block radius of a hood,. people need to get out and broaden there horizons foreal. the mind is a terrible thing to waste.

  • Umm... My friend Kris is black. He calls himself an oreo. Everyone calls him an oreo. He loves it. I don't really see the point in this vid? Do other people find it offencive? If so, that's kind of stupid. I mean, a black person is just as important as a white. Hmmm....

  • Well it is meant as a insult to some people. If your friend is ok with being called that. then more power to him. But most of the time it is an insult. And a black person is just as important as a white person. The problem is when someone is trying to better themselves, and other black people call them oreos or sell outs, etc.

  • True true....

  • young man, doing what your doing keepin it real means keeping the lights on.i am not a rapper or a basketball player never apologize for being you. contiune building your personality resume.speaking proper english is golden since we live in america.stay positive and don't worry about people who can do nothing for you or whom men nothing to you.

  • nice video. People do not and cannot act a certain color. Good Point! and awesome video.

  • I been saying the same thing.

  • you're absolutely right, dunte86. the last time i checked too, an oreo was a cookie, what is this foolishness by blacks that call blacks that don't have "hood mentality, speak ebonics and are free thinkers "toms" and "sellouts"? i just laugh at people like that because i'm comfortable with my beliefs and i don't mentally run with the herd. instead of worrying about "toms" and "sellouts" the black community needs to work on the problems that's been destroying our community.

  • Its not so much that you're different but an inferiority thing. They think you're trying to be better than them because they see whites the same way: pretentious.

  • Put links in the description. It saves you time and no one is going to listen for a web URL

  • links are in the description ...you would know that if you had read them...sorry to be rude

  • No its fine. I didn't see them. What I really meant you don't need to include them in the videos. I only meant it as a bit of advice. Your video got 5 stars either way. Keep it coming.

  • i usually put links in the vids now as well thanks for the advice

  • I'm so glad you made this video. I get the same crap all the time. And Lil Wayne (and so many of those rappers) are garbage! XD

  • So when someone calls you an Oreo for not liking Lil'Wayne, they too are ignorant to the origin of the term & are obviously younger than those in my generation whose parents (that lived during Jim Crow, MLK, Malcolm X) wouldve knocked the teeth out of our mouths for not pursuing an education, and would've made us apologize to you in front of our families.

  • These people were the ones who carried out vicious "white" agendas of oppression. It had nothing to do w/ having an education, affluence or speaking properly. However, these same betrayers often benefitted from the oppressors by gaining those accoutrements that were denied to their own ppl (wealth, education, etc).

  • I am not that young (or old---Im a young Ol Head :) but I remember that when someone was called an "Oreo" it was a term reserved for a certain type of personality among Africans, those who betray their own. They were the "slatees" in Alex Haley's Roots, they were the "black white men" referred to by Native Americans. In Europe among Europeans (who society wasn't yet differntiated by skin), they were the wolves in sheeps clothing So this personality isnt unique to the Africanbut I digress

  • 01:36

All of you are caught up. Whose to say that predominately "white" neighborhoods are classy & predominately "black" neighborhoods are ghetto? I beg to differ on that alone. I live in a predominately AfrAm neighborhood where the houses & lawns are well kept, the neighbors are friendly, the children respectful, etc. I have seen predominately "white" neighborhoods that were the opposite & had drug problems. It's not the color of the skin but the mentality within. Peace!

  • If that's how i made it sound i'm sorry. I live in the suburbs now (predominately black) and minis the teens trying to be "Hard" it's a nice neighborhood. It's not a thing of color at all. I know the ghetto is not a "black" thing but society makes it seem that way and people seem to fall into that frame of mind.

  • Boi you aint lyin. Fuck lil wayne, the stanky leg, the dirty booty, ricky bobby, I havent listened to the radio in a least 4 yrs. When i hear that bullshit i just wanna rip my stereo out my car and throw it at somebody elses car who likes that garbage then kill myself. Sorry i had to vent. Nice Vid

  • haha vent on

  • locs looking great.

and I know how the oreo thing is, i've never been called tht in direct but ignorant black people say things along the lines.

  • Nice video, Jamal. I wonder if people think that Obama is an "oreo"

Last time I checked we lived in America...this is the one nation that can take a poor man and turn him into a successful man. Thanks for the video

  • I'm happy you liked it. I just had to get that off my chest

  • I get that all the time....I agree with most you say in this video.

  • People like that have to be ignored because they don't know any better. Thats all that they know and its sad. But at the end of the day you can only can worry about yourself.

  • this is true my friend

  • i hear you man,

i get that "oreo" thing a lot

    just the ignorance of people.

    real talk.

  • great job on that vid.

  • Yes a oreo is a cookie. And a cookie is a snack. You know what else is a a snack. A cracker.

Huh? What are you getting at Q.

I wish we had a whole foods or a trader joe's in the hood. I went home for break and saw how deprived our neighborhood supermarket is from healthy food. But I DIGRESS.

Remember to give back to the hood to help a young lad like yourself get out and go to the good school to get the good job with the benefits.

    Q has spoken.

  • most def like I said I will never forget where I came from but I won't be trying to live there. But I do plan to go back and volunteer and stuff like that.

  • He used to be good but has become too mainstream for me now. If you like him more power to ya

  • uh??? But If You Was Ay Rapper Would You Trying to Get More Money???

  • i can't fault him for following the money but IMO his music is trash as with alot of other stuff that is played on the radio. Just stating my opinion here

  • Well It Not Trash Man... Show Lil Respect Man..

  • That's your opinion and I respect you for it.But my opinion is that it's trash. sorry.... it's just how I feel and that's not going to change

  • there is nothing wrong with chasing money. who wouldn't chase money?? but at the same time that doesn't equate to making good music

  • IncredibleStan, your name says it all

don't be so hurt just because he doesn't enjoy his music. Feel free to listen to Lil Wayne, a lot of others do enjoy his music so focus on that.

Anyways, good vid and I agree. Blacks stereotyping blacks.

  • hurt?? why would i be hurt? I don't even think Lil Wayne makes that great of music anymore
