I'm from South Bend and found about a pound and a half in my backyard a few days ago, then decided to head towards Niles, MI to hunt for some and came away with about 4 pounds all together with about 2 hours of hunting. Fairly new to this but have heard to look near dead Elm, Ash, Sycamore, and Apple trees.
What state is this? lol. i love how you say you do enough to your liver lol. well me and my cousins go out for tournaments for morels and we found 42 pounds in 6 hours. we had 300 shrooms under one dead elmm.ill have to film us going this weekend and show it to you
i miis the black ones, i used to find them all over freddrick co. md, i moved up to altoona pa. now i just drive around looking for dead elms and ash trees and get the white and yellow ones
yeah i think they are dissapeaing every year little by little too. i can't wait soon to be season just a couple mounths away i am already dreaminga bout them
Excellent video ! You're about 1 to 2 weeks ahead of us here in central Michigan. I found 10 small ones on Sunday. You are right, do not eat the gyromitras. They do cause liver & kidney damage! Check out my channel when you get some time, and keep up the great work! Tip of the "Mushroom Cap" to ya!
This time last year I was finding quite a few. This time this year there is still 4 feet of snow. I may have to slap Al Gore if he comes up here. You can't even count on global warming these days. Our area set several records for snowfall this year.

Your 'elephant ear' looked like a gyromitra carolinas or gigas not esculenta. The 'snow
bankers' are choice. Going to Mansfield this
weekend ( Indiana mushroom fest) ? Hey Grif,
they're up good in Manistee County ( MI)

You are doing alot better than me, I have only found 1 this year. All of my black spots have dried up over the years.

I know what you mean. I think we found maybe 3 black morels this year, when we use to be able to find atleast 100. They've been going away slowly.
