10 years ago one (much bigger, spawned in a hurricane) hit my 50' steel house boat. (I was watching from shore.)

The bottom of that boat is in the same place but lower, the top has never been found. Heavy objects like big battery's and other largely solid metal objects were dropped from the hull while it was in the air and spinning, were found underneath the steel hull.

I felt VERY HARMED.

@Npeo The thing is its not really a tornado. Its actually formed from a different process. Cold air gets pushed by a storm into warm air near the surface, causing friction. This slows the cold air, and as it slows it swirls. When it swirls, it makes the whirlwind effect over the water, and sucks rain into it way up in the wky, making the tornadic-like appearance :) Winds are vary rarely over 50 mph, think of this as being similar to a water dust devil, except stronger. But this guy has balls lol

That was a moderate-strong F0 with multiple vortices spinning inside the main circulation. You actually entered the external circulation towards the end. If you would have driven your boat into that it would have likely capsized your boat. You're also lucky that it didn't develop into an F1 while you were around it. Those vorticies could have easily developed outside of where you boat was and pulled you inside a growing tornado.

That waterspout was weak in tornado terms, but had strong enough winds to capsize his boat. He's lucky that it didn't start developing into an F1. An extrenal vorticity could have developed outside of that tiny center of circulation and trapped him in the tornado.

Though the wind is substantial, this is not water spout material, it is just a fairly strong water whirlwind. (I've had shingles & garden furniture thrown violently about by a whirlwind passing about my house.) To be a water spout a true funnel would have to form, wind speeds would triple & the motor would not be needed for the boat to get sucked in. Our intrepid videographer & outboard operator would likely be resoundingly separated from his craft, his camera, his sushi, & perhaps an arm..
