Just for the record, these Cafavy poems are teaching me what I didn't know--that same-sex love can be as productive of deep feeling and beauty as the other kind.
(Hey, I come from the backwoods. Our ignorance is profound.)
it only takes one to let go of ignorance and embrace knowledge and only better oneself, being "backwoods" is only your starting part, you will be the sum total of your life's experiences someday...beautiful, thanks for sharing this with me Sasha.
My dear Chas, this video is so "insultingly" impeccable that...argggg!!!....
I mean, after watching your whole work I'm really getting extremely discouraged trying to conceive my own first (preposterous) video...Please have mercy on me! : (
Charles, Master silversmith of the heart. So much love and desire, painstakingly engraved into a brilliant metal that shines as brightly as a full moon in the velvet night. The silver bowl may last an eternity, but the most important element--the treaured boy who inspired its creation--is gone except for loving memories of him etched in the heart of the bereaved. Many will disagree but I don't believe it is a privilege to be killed as do those who send our fairest youth to war.
Wow!! My Love! My beloved Kestal! I think you should write a self-help book entitled: "How to Become a quality rival for the Great Poet and Scholar Charles".I'm not joking.I fact,I'm quite serious about it... I LOVE YOU...
Thank you for such an immensely flattering comment, but Charles is inimitable, and his gifts blaze far beyond all others. He's not a rival. He's my idol.
Whenever I think of the manchild that left me a widower, I now think of this.
Again, I thank you Charles.

Well my dear Emilio, Love makes us all blind :) No disrespect intended to the object of your affections, needless to say!

Beautiful, Charles. The second verse, in particular, moved me... and the images and music were perfection.

I think this is one of Cafavy's finer poems and I really like the sentiment in your rendition

Thanks Halina. Most of Cavafy's poems move me, this one especially. It's difficult to read it aloud without breaking up as I do so!

Wonderfully flowing, the artist summoning the muse to cause his hands to fashion the image fair, now dormant in the vision eye.
