it was hard to get away cuz i was all the way at the front, but me and my family ran to under the bridge and then moved into a giftshop, then took a packed subway under the flooded streets to my uncles moms apartment, where we slept for a night, the day after we went to Balaton.
the fireworks were amazing but then the storm came... and what sucked is that it was the civilians that bought the fireworks and donated it to the show and they didnt cancell it. oh yeah and one of the people who died was an old lady who had a heart attack, not to far away where i was.
I was stood by the bridge nearest the fallen tree where two people were killed. When the rain first started lashing (and it was driving into your eyes and mouth)there were thousands of people who ran.
Its staggering that people weren't crushed. Two of us took shelter in an appartment for half an hour, and when we walked back to the hostel the damage was staggering. Amazing experience.
Yup, at least you got into the subway station pretty quick... took us about 40 minutes to get out of the cold.
I think the 5 deaths were all caused by either fallen trees or drownings if I'm not mistaken, so at least no one died in a stampede (which is a miracle when 1.5million people are running around). The holiday and the city were almost victims of their own popularity and organizers will have to be held responsible.
Still, it was a killer evening and it made for a really good story.
That storm had hundreds of casualties and 5 deaths, that happend because the responsibles of the fireworks shows didn't cancalled the show!
The same storm was also rampaged across Szombathely, Veszprém, Székesfehérvár (cities in Hungary) however there the organizers can called of the fireworks show, and there were no casualties...
So thank it to Demszky Gábor, Szilvássy György and the other security responsibles not to call of the fireworks show...
It was easier to see than this video, that's for sure...I managed to duck into a bank foyer (cash machine) and watch it through the glass..the lightening display was better than the gazzilion forint fireworks! It was cool.
was it just rain?
Hope everyone was ok
where is Budapest?
