In France the drinking age is 16 and they have no problems at all. If you bring your kids up with alcohol like i was they will never have a problem. The drinking age is to blame. My friend would get rides from his mom when he was beyond drunk. She thought it was okay as long as there was supervision and they didn't end up driving. He passed away 2 years ago because while his Mom was driving him home, He jumped out of the car onto on going traffic while she was going 50 mph. He was only 16 and could have been somebody one day. Its nothing but irresponsible to let your kids drink underage.

I live in the UK, my parents let me have alcohol (a little while supervised) when I was about 13 so that by the time I was cut lose at 18 (are legal drinking age) I had a concept of responsible drinking and a system accustomed to handling alcohol. In my opinion its the best way. No mater what steps you take, young people will drink, the best thing to do is to teach them to drink responsibly in a controlled environment before its too late.

My best friend dad as a fairly good system. Before his any of kids or there friends he gave us a speech. What it entailed was no drunk driving, the proper amount to drink and how to sleep right, keeping the parties controlled and no parties when he was out of town. And for the past decade no one has ever gotten an underage, dui, or ever had to go to the hospital so it does work and D.A.R.E was wrong.

Okay, this is how I see it. I'm a junior in high school and I have never taken a sip of alcohol in my life; because I choose not to. Some, on the other hand, choose to drink. It's all a choice. There has been too many teenage deaths related to alcohol and drinking and driving--and I don't want to be a statistic. I think other countries can set their age limit at what ever they want, but 21 is America's law, and it's there for a reason, and some choose to follow it.

USA is sooo paranoid. Im an expat kid living in Shanghai, and there's no drinking ages here. Anyone can go to bars, clubs, drink all they want. Im only 16 and me and all my friends go to a club or bar every weekend to blow off some steam. Nothing huge and scary there. A lot of teens here go clubbing, its become our normal passtime, our hanging out spot is usually in a club or bar. And guess what? There's nothing wrong with us! We aren't addicted, we do pretty good in school, no difference.

Yeah that's actually kind of true. Some people are born with a dependant personality, but that doesn't mean their doomed, nor does it mean that everyone else is safe. For example, my dad is a terrible alcoholic, but I've been drinking since I was 13, I'm now 15 (Drinking age is 18 in Australia) but I'm confident that I can drink safely throughout my life. Don't get me wrong, I get sloshed every now and then too. Kids need to learn to drink responsibly while their minds are still receptive.

In France the drinking age is 16 and they have no problems at all. If you bring your kids up with alcohol like i was they will never have a problem. The drinking age is to blame. Its the whole "tempting fruit" ideology that makes kids think drinking is awesome, and they think only cool kids get to use it. They get the alcohol underage anyway.

it should be the parents decision. if your parents don't let you drink because youre 15 or whatever then good on them, they dont want you to get hurt/alchoholic/whatever. if they dont give a shit whether you drink or not thats fine too. just be smart about it and realize that shit can happen.

My friend would get rides from his mom when he was beyond drunk. She thought it was okay as long as there was supervision and they didn't end up driving. He passed away 2 years ago because while his Mom was driving him home, He jumped out of the car onto on going traffic while she was going 50 mph. He was only 16 and could have been somebody one day. Its nothing but irresponsible to let your kids drink underage.

I live in the UK, my parents let me have alcohol (a little while supervised) when I was about 13 so that by the time I was cut lose at 18 (are legal drinking age) I had a concept of responsible drinking and a system accustomed to handling alcohol. In my opinion its the best way. No mater what steps you take, young people will drink, the best thing to do is to teach them to drink responsibly in a controlled environment before its too late.

What it entailed was no drunk driving, the proper amount to drink and how to sleep right, keeping the parties controlled and no parties when he was out of town. And for the past decade no one has ever gotten an underage, dui, or ever had to go to the hospital so it does work and D.A.R.E was wrong.

i was allowed to drink while supervised since i was 10 or so.and you know what?
now i don't even like drinking.a beer or two once a week.when you're not allowed to do something you get that "forbidden fruit" effect out of it.

1. Underage drinking is good 2. They can do as much as they want (raise the legal age, close bars, educate) we will always be able to get alchohol in sumway.

In Australia our legal age is 18. I'm 15 and I've been drinking since I was 13. Thing is, most of the time I'm responsible about it. It's not alcohol that ruins lives, it's the abuse of it. By the way, if you make the age as ridiculously high as 21, then of course you;re going to have a fucking underage drinking problem.

sycopink, you are so right. It's legal from 16 here, but I drank whenI was 15, probably had my first drink (nip oif brandy from my grandfather) when I was about ten, and I never got into any trouble. Drinking, even to the point of drunkeness isn't bad, as long as people know when it is appropriate and when not. Be soer in class, at work or behind the wheel, but besides that, it really doesn't matter as long as you're not drunk like 4 times a week

alcohol does not harm people, stupidity does. im 17 and i drink all the time but however impared i have been i am not slightly inclined to climb behind the wheel. I believe america is so bad because of stupid lies that our government puts out about drinking. We are gonna drink underage whatever you tell us because it is too hipocritical to be told not to drink by someone who does it all the time. so lower the drinking age or quit the lies, that'll solve our problem

i sorry but america allows u as far as i know by a gun at 18 in most states but wont allow you tu take a sip of drink until ur 21 most irish ppl prevent drink driving by leaving thier car at home iv been drinking since i was 13 and drinking in bars since i was 17 but i have never so far drunk drive

i understand if an underage person takes a drink of acohol it is by curiosity or peer prsure..barly is it by own choice. i think a little shot of acohol is enogh because it is just a little bit of acohal but it is no enogh to get drunk

Okay, this is how I see it. I'm a junior in high school and I have never taken a sip of alcohol in my life; because I choose not to. Some, on the other hand, choose to drink. It's all a choice. There has been too many teenage deaths related to alcohol and drinking and driving--and I don't want to be a statistic. I think other countries can set their age limit at what ever they want, but 21 is America's law, and it's there for a reason, and some choose to follow it.

USA is sooo paranoid. Im an expat kid living in Shanghai, and there's no drinking ages here. Anyone can go to bars, clubs, drink all they want. Im only 16 and me and all my friends go to a club or bar every weekend to blow off some steam. Nothing huge and scary there. A lot of teens here go clubbing, its become our normal passtime, our hanging out spot is usually in a club or bar. And guess what? There's nothing wrong with us! We aren't addicted, we do pretty good in school, no difference.

Nelyat13, I applaud you for proving my point, that children of your age, can handle alcohol responibly, and that scare tactics/rules/... only turn it more into a forbidden fruit which will drive kids to drink more in quantity and more dangerous. Drinking the way you do, is tee way many kids all around the world, do, and those ids don't grow up to be raging alcoholics, are drunk drivers, they become responsible adults.

i know drunk driving is bad, but heres a message to PSA SCARE TACTICS DONT WORK, and neither does advertising, i mean sure, it may lower rates by a few percent, but im in 9th grade, and many ppl i know occasionally drink, and none of them decide to stop when they see a presentation.
i am 14 and my freinds and i have drank, and i did not go on a wild drunk driving spree or become and alchoholic
so, PSA, use something other than scare tactics, because teens like 2 break the rules that you set

theres these 3 girls that go to my school and are in 8th grade and are 13 years old and they drink and like to get drunk. i hate it because they think they are the shit for doing that. but literally everone hates them.

These PSA's are so pointless, you are born with alcoholism and will develop it regardless of how late you begin or how little/much you happen to drink. You can't drink your way into alcoholism if you aren't born without the gene.

I didn't say you couldn't get physically addicted to it, anyone can and may even need to detox. The difference between the real alcoholic/addict is that they keep going and can't stop, they become emotionally addicted as well. Loads of people drink and use heavily for years but then decide to quit or moderate. I'm talking about the 12-15% of the population who can't do that. Cheers, AE

Yeah that's actually kind of true. Some people are born with a dependant personality, but that doesn't mean their doomed, nor does it mean that everyone else is safe. For example, my dad is a terrible alcoholic, but I've been drinking since I was 13, I'm now 15 (Drinking age is 18 in Australia) but I'm confident that I can drink safely throughout my life. Don't get me wrong, I get sloshed every now and then too. Kids need to learn to drink responsibly while their minds are still receptive.

im 14 and i do get drunk, but i always tell some friends which dont like to drink that if i get drunk, if they can please help me out, and nothing bad has happened, i have never thrown up, gotten hurt, or hurt any one else.
