Cheers, Sarah, and thanks, though I've posted about 200 more videos since this that are (I think) much better. Post some vids playing the tenor; I'd love to see them.
It's really good to see a tenor banjo on the Tube! I used to play jazz on one many, many years ago, but have only started to play traditional music in the last 2-3 years. I try and play it fingerstyle - might post something if I feel like it! All my stuff on YT is guitar up to now... :-) Will
Ah, well I figured I might have written that in a somewhat confusing way. I meant I picked up the tenor banjo after playing other instruments, but not the 5-string. I've played plectrum instruments (mandolin, bouzouki, etc.) for about six years. I picked up the tenor banjo about four years. Sorry if I confused you.
I've been playing 5-string banjo for a few years but, being Irish, I've been toying with idea of getting a tenor... and I think listening to this has tipped me over the edge. That's a great sound you've got there - what make of banjo is it? Is it a short scale?
It is a 19-fret, shorter-scale tenor from a Korean (I know, I know) company called Iida. The model name is 230T, if that helps any.
Iida have been around since the 70s, as far as I know, and considering the price, they're very reasonable instruments. Mine was $500 with the case, and it's a bright little instrument, if nothing fancy.
Glad you enjoyed the video, and I hope your transition to the tenor is as brilliant as mine was.
Very nice!! Could you tell me what key The Banshee is in(and if you use "Irish" tuning or standard)? also maybe I could get the chords for it?
Thanks for the video

I have a chance to get my old da's banjo.
A Slingerland Maybelle Queen from 1930 Chicago.
Any good ?
Otherwise, will let it go elsewhere.

@wqpeb Chicago. Musical instrument. 1930.
Nuff Said.
I'd love to find a banjo from the thirties or earlier, myself.

Badass! Lovin the little triplets on the A over the two bars and the tastefully selected bass harmonies.
Your channel is the go-to place for me to hear some alternative ornaments in tunes when i'm practicing at home.

Very good player, although you've got a aways to go to beat Pecker Dunne. I mean that has a complement, not an insult.

So, you were a 5-stringer before - how long did it take you to get up to this standard on the tenor?
