Every myth has a function. This one may be make believers follow orders which they know will lead to them committing the most horrific acts to those they should care for, in the hope that they may be stopped at the last minute and told they have passed the test. But by then, it's too late.
In some way , this myth tell extremist to accept the fact that their children gong to bomp themselves for the sake of God with all respect ! , because Ibraham didn't argue with God . Just Do what Gods tell you , don't argue , he knows the best 0.o"
Great stuff, KalsolarUK! So I'm not the only one around who considers this particular story a truly jaw-dropping display of savage mental cruelty on the part of 'God'. Imagine: there's Abe with upraised blade, ready and prepared to make the most anguishing and terrible sacrifice that a parent can make, and 'God' turns round and says, "Nah - I'm just messin' with yah..". I mean.. what kind of a sicko god is that?
Thanks for that, thankfully we're not the only right minded people who think this whole story is nuts - its truely hard to understand how preachers manage to twist this story into something that church goers find believeable and palateable.
I found the story to show more that it was for Abraham's understanding of knowing of what Abraham himself will do. God already knew. Would God really be God if he always had questions? It was accounted to Abraham as righteousness, not because Abraham is something great or because he was one of God's best friends, but because he was obedient. All through the bible God is looking NOT for the deeds but more just for a willing heart. And that is where religion screws people up by twisting that.
I always thought the story of Job to be particularly cruel. Job is good and faithful and instead of allowing Job to enjoy the benefits of being good, he makes bets with the Devil......kills all his kids, takes away his wealth, makes him sick......all for a fucking bet.
Moral of the story: doesn't matter how good you are, God might fuck with you for shits and giggles.
Job is another good (or rather, appalling) example, ciaochowbella. kalsolarUK is right: the scariest thing is the way in which the reader's critical judgment gets suspended when this stuff is accepted as scriptural authority. Looked at coldly, the Biblical God screws his followers around, is sick, sadistic, foul-tempered and bloodthirsty, and has the mentality of a wild west hanging judge.
Hanging judges were more reasonable then this God of theirs.
I was raised as a Southern Baptist and was thrown out of Sunday school more than once for asking "impertinent" questions. Like, "If you can't go to heaven if you're not saved, do Jews go to heaven? Aren't they God's chosen people?" Or "Why didn't Jesus do big miracles, like give everyone cars instead of donkeys?" They thought I was a smart ass.
I want my Isaac-back, Isaac-back, Isaac-back, Issac-back, Isaac-back ribs . . . Yahweeeeeh's Isaac-back ribs. Now for the ever-perplexing question . . . does Jealous-sama have a preferred wine? What goes well with progeny of the devout? Kool-Aid, perhaps?
That tale is just one of the many crackhead treasures stored within the bible. I love the way you told it, and others. Gave it suitable humour and light-heartedness without going over the top.
lol, thanks, its kinda handy that the bible tends to provide some cracking stories to work from. Although, as you know, its amazing how many very similar stories to those told in the bible can be traced back to other much older writings.
This one particularly I'm not sure, but noahs ark and a variety of other well known ones are. Watch zeitgeist the movie part 1 - which deals with a few (its does contain certain inaccuracies but theres enough truth there to make you doubt and question much in the bible) also a video on youtube called "The Naked Truth" with Jordan maxwell.
The more I hear these stories, the more I find out the religion is a bunch of crock!

God promised Abrahams descendants would be as numerous as the stars of the sky and God gave Abraham His Son when he was 90 years old a MIRACLE

Isaac also heard what was god's intention, Isaac would have been more proud of his father
because god was with his father abraham.
he would have forgotten what had happened
after hearing god's voice and felt he is lucky to be with his father

lol hes not married to his sister. so have you come up with anything you have a problem with in this story?
J43fan 3 years ago
she was his half sister according to the bible..and he did marry her. The problem I have with this story should be self evident.

i dont have time to watch it again right now but ill try to later. i wanna know what your problem is though so ill try to get back.

I liked how Family Guy did this scene. If I remembered which episode it was from, I would quote it.

lol, "Jealous-sama" kekekeke... Also the best kind of Kool-Aid for churchies is the arsenic flavored variety.

Yes, pretty bloody frosty at breakfast, you can imagine that scene, Issac, Abraham, his sister.
Issac: Can you tell Dad to pass me the milk please Mum.
Sister: Abraham, pass Issac the milk.
Abraham: He can get his own bloody milk, or he can stave.
Issac: Thats what you want isn't Dad.

hehe, I do find it amusing that so many people forgive so easily in the bible stories. It happens time and time again.

The Bible has tried to make the stories of old truth to there needs thus destorying the truth then they call it the Gospel... Odd...

Which older writings was this one based off? Not trying to be rude or anything like that just want to know is all. After all knowledge is power. :)
BTW Thank you for this video. You're a great story teller and Bible interpreter.
