Fear conditioning can occur at home and at church, too. At home, a father who abuses his children and a husband who abuses his wife can cause the wife and children to fear him. In church, if you are Christian, you learn to fear sin, Satan, and the outside world because you are constantly bombarded with stories of eternal damnation for those who don't conform to the ways and beliefs of the Christian church. This kind of fear conditioning can have a negative effect on you if you are mentally ill.

whats the difference between generalization and discrimination?

generalization - you respond to a variety of stimuli (original condition stimulus was a bell you respond to bell, alarm, erm whatever). discrimination you respond differently to different stimuli - eg only the bell and not the alarm

Wasnt Albert's fear of not only the rat, but bunny, dog, santa mask, ext ALSO conditioned to him? Or was it just simply generilzation? My guess on Alber's life later, the fear died. Just like if you teach a dog to teach a ball, rewarding the dog with a treat, to later stop feeding it a treat for cashing the ball, it will stop chasing the ball knowing it wont get the reward.
