I wish Gareth Thomas would shut up and let Jacqueline Pearce get a word in. You can tell by the rushed way of speaking that she is having a struggle keeping up - god I can't stand people who are full of themselves.
I find Gareth's comments about other actors being prettier than him, and not being good-looking enough to be the hero quite sad.
Paul Darrow was obviously meant to be the classically handsome & dashing one in B7, but despite Gareth's protests during this interview he was very attractive. Tall & strapping with a strong-featured, expressive face and a simply glorious voice that could melt butter, he had an earthy sex appeal that was a wonderful foil for Paul Darrow's elegance.
Paul Darrow gets it right in his interview though: when you are The Hero there are things you cannot do (that in real life would have you dead) but the sidekick can. That is what made it; restriction to 5 people there was scope to be a 'type' but at the same time see how that type operates in all circumstances. Star Trek only needs 'types' because there's a crew of umpteen hundred nonentities for the donkey work. In Blakes7 everybody must be everything as their character would handle it.

It's interesting that they really don't understand the fan phenomenon at all -- they seem to regard the fans as good-hearted but nonetheless nutters -- and that they saw conventions as another form of work. It perhaps isn't that they *want* to see their fans in a poor light, but that they don't have any other context in which to see them.
all this r.p. makes me sick. glad to hear jp has found something she loves in africa after all these 20-odd years of me thinking she was the bride of satan!
i would say blake 7 handled oppression power very well one thing they did well was Duel they handled the cold war really well BTW this is Pebble mill 20 august 1990
Was Gareth wearing his Sunday best? He came off a bit rude to Jackie and somewhat pompous, but perhaps it was due to nervousness. His comment about wanting to move on after Season 2 so as to avoid being typecast doesn't ring quite true, he left the show because he wanted more control and didn't get it. Nevertheless, it was nice to see them interviewed after all these years. Jackie was very charming and still retains that sultriness she brought to the role of Servelan.
Jackie Pearce looks like a character from Rebecca. And it is funny to hear that Gareth was once "slim and fit" which was no way in shape during those day.
jacqueline was a goddess, a sex icon a seductive marc almond in sci fi drag, simply the answer to every boys dream back in the 80s.

At 14 Monday nights at 7pm on the BBC were Blakes 7 nights and I loved this show. I also had a hell of a crush on Jacqueline Pearce.

Funny when they say Gareth hadn't been in every series, and he says "I came back for the last series"...
He was in every series. A main in series 1 and 2, and a guest in series 3's "Terminal" and series 4's "Blake".

'He came off a bit rude to Jackie and somewhat pompous, but perhaps it was due to nervousness'
I think he was just nervous.
Have you seen the swap shop interview he did in 1979? He seems quite different in character. I suppose people change a lot in 12 years.

OMG, she has grown hair! It looks great on her; it does suit her well!

Jacqueline Pearce just remains one of the most beautiful and sexy women I have ever seen.
However, the interviewer needed to bring her in more instead of allowing Gareth taking over.

I wanted to be Servelan ; Or Jacqueline Pearce; Only so many women can carry off a hair cut like that and she is beautiful enough to carry it off;
