I lived with them in Dorchester in April and May of 1981. They were really cool. I wish I got to know them better. Does anyone know where they are now?
@RanetkiFan Boston University Student Union, October 1980...the 2nd week of my freshman year...after this show, life became very weird...and remained that way...permanently.
so how many consecutive years of total ass kicking rock and roll did the core of this group make? By my count 10-12 years, including the Zulus up until when Gilbert switches from Strat to Thunderbird (or was that Explorer?). Bangor, Gilbert ,Travis, and Mac+Cortese are right after Zep for me.
The guy on the far right (who has the first close up of the video and I think is Dini Lamont) went on to become a bartender at Spit and served me many a beer and GTXL.
As a band, they provided lots of fun for college students in the early 80s: they were witty, creative, surprising, and, best of all for a band, "they had a beat and you could dance to it".
Todd Rundgren did this cover on his A Wizard a true star album. He change the structure into a minor key format with a 7/8 feel to it.I seen HSR at the channel in boston years ago . I could see Tribe and Till Tuesday in my mind also.
"COOL JERK" is a cover-version of a song from the british freakbeatband "THE CREATION". it was an single A-side from 1967-the CREATION are worth listen too-not only their best-known hit "Painterman" which is one of the badder songs of them -there are a lot more to discover-HSR is one my favourite 80s bands and
waiting to be re-discovered again!thank you for postinf the video
that is new for me-I thank you for this information- then the CREATION DID ANOTHER COVER-VERSION of this song-but don´t call me dude you arrogant blockhead
"It's odd how some bands disappear from history and others go on to become generally regarded as some of history's best. Back in the early 80's, in the time when New Wave was big and CDs were only starting to replace the LP, the band Human Sexual Response really caught my attention. I bought their second LP ("In a Roman Mood") and was quite impressed. I feel it measured up to the best product of the age, which was quite good."
Wow, thanks for the memories...I'm wishing, though that someone out there had some footage of the Zulus - the band that came out of HSR in the mid 80's - quite a different sound, absolutley great rock band, w/Rich Gilbert really opening up on guitar...please if anybody's got something, can we see it?
OMG I LOVE THIS BAND!!! I never saw them dress in nurses outfits, tho. Such a cool video. I do remember seeing them on LIVE TV when they played "Butt Fuck"! For some reason they were never invited back to that show... I really miss that band. They were GREAT. Thanks for posting this.
Talk about a flashback!! I was living in Boston waaaay back then. I still have the original LP on vinyl. I gotta dust that baby off and re-live those times.
Devo don't know

I saw HSR in Roberts Hall at Rhode Island College way back in the late 70's. They were a great band to see live.

Thank you for the posting.

for me HSR is one of the best 80s band and very underrated too-the lp "in a roman mood" is fantastic!!!
it´s a shame that they split after having recorded only 2 lps-Fig. 14 + in a roman mood...
in a roman mood is still one of my favourite records.
