The album is great. This video just gets cut off too soon to make anything of it, although a true music fan can already sense, without knowing the song, that something great is about to happen 8-)
I got the Walls Have Ears double live album. Track 9 was recorded live November 8, 1985 in Brighton Beach. Can't believe i stumbled upon a vid from that gig. Thanks for posting dude! I saw them at Futurama festival in Belgium on 10/13/1985 for the first time. It was shock and awe, big fan since. Opening band at 11 am, and a lot of people hated it. They only got 35 minutes playtime and they played Expressway to yr skull for 13 minutes. Ahead of their time!
Look at those people walking along the bridge: how fucking cool would it be to walk out for some fish and chips and see sonic youth playing 20 ft away?
Sonic Youth spent the early part of their existence attempting to destroy music before they started sounding a little more melodic and more acceptable to mainstream tastes. They make it all look effortless. Even if you think they're awful, there is nobody out there like them.
For all you out there that dont understand experimental music go back to your polluted commercial shit that sll sounds the same. Sonic youth had some really incredible music and were part of the NY garage artist music scene....Maybe a little to intellectual for some of you.
Och, that was magic. SY can be horrible, beautiful or both, and to know that it was on Brighton Beach makes it all that much better. And Steve Shelley obviously looked like a maths professor in those days too. Yay!
this is weird. as i watch this i realize that this show happened just outside my front door, literally! i live by the pier in brighton, england...and this show took place right there!

To the guns and roses fan, to be a Sonic Youth fan requires you to be open minded, and I like guns and roses too.
Willieboy9000 4 years ago
I totally agree
I'm a Guns and Roses fan too but there is no real journey with their songs whenever I listen to Sonic Youth I feel like their taking me somewhere

I can't believe there's still dispute about whether SY is good or not. Oh yeah, this is the internet.

I guess a lot people don't understand that they WEREN'T trying to sound like traditional bands, that's what makes them so great.
