I remember in the early 80s when the Rangers—Islanders rivalry was at its height, whenever there was a Ranger—Islander game, everyone would be anticipating the fights, Ranger fans saying "We want Beck vs. Gillies and Nystrom vs. Fotiu". It never happened. All those guys were tough guys and would fight, but they weren't goon and would fight only if the other team started it. Funny the only time Fotiu & Nystrom fought was when Fotiu was with Hartford.

If Nystrom did not get his skating instructions from barbara williams, he would have been nothing. the man owes his career to her. she was the best skating coach around.
Does anybody have a video with more than 6 seconds of this? What an interesting match-up: two good fighters with very different styles. If they box, Nicky wins. If they flail, Bobby wins. I wonder what happened!

True story...Bob Nystrom was at the South Shore Mall in LI at some gay Islander event and me & my brother for kicks did the Potvin Sucks whistle and more than a few people joined in for the chant, Isles fans SUCK!
How does it feel to win one cup in nearly 70 years? How does it feel to own NHL records like worst regular season beating RedWings 15 Rangers 5 in 1955. Or the NHL record of being the team to be eliminated in the first round the most amount of times? Or missing the playoffs the most consecutive times from decade to decade. Or NEVER having a homegrown player that scored more than 50 goals (that is 83 fucking years you loser!!!) Or most amount of years between Stanley Cups.......54.
Or missing the playoffs consecutively while having the highest payroll for 4 of the 7 straight years. The other 3 years the Rangers were ranked #1, the team that was ranked higher than the Rangers were the Redwings..........and they WON THE CUP more than once in that time.
The Rangers are always putting the cup in their locker room before they are even getting there. Guess what, you aint the Yankees, you are the polar opposite bitch.

Last summer in NYC I had met BN on Park Ave. I handed him my cell phone and told him to speak with the person that I had dialed it was NF. They are the Best of friends. Bobby had told me that after he had his eye surgery NF came to the hospital with a box of cookies and stayed with him for 3 hours. Also said that NF was all class.

Fotiu was told he should have chosen boxing as a sport, because other than throwing his fists, Nick could not do anything else.
He literally could not play the sport.
Nystrom on the other hand was not only a better fighter, but he could play.
