my favorite player ever, went through some lean years in quebec but peter stastny showed him the way,in my opinion they should have won the cup in 95 but kovalev dove like a soccer player, look it up if u want to,cheers sakic and nordiques fans
I remember it was 1995 or 1996, I wasn't a big fan of Hockey. I always played the NHL series for my SNES. I remember playing against the Avalanche as the Might Ducks and Joe Sakic just scoring on my relentlessly. Ever since then, if I see him play or I play the video games, I try to trade for him. Definitely one of my favorite players of all time.
the best nhl player ever i been a fan since i loved hockey and it was when i was 5 years old and know im 16 still the greatest player in the history in sports my fav team is the avalanche
Anyone still a Sakic fan in 2011 ? I remember how I loved him back when he played with Quebec .. And I still get goosbomps when see him handing the Stanley cup to Ray Bourque. Sakic fan for life. Reminds me how I am no longer a boy .. all favorite players retired :-))
@DarkProphet666 ya I still am a Sakic fan and I'm never not going to be either and all my favorite players have retired too except Brodeur but I'm pretty sure this year is his last aswell.
i remember watching joe hand the cup to Ray Bourque, when every other capt. in the league would have skated around with it first that is class it's to bad except for a small number that todays players don't have an ounce of what joe had the game misses u joe a lot!!!
when the stakes were highest joe was there for the aves and more important for team canada he basically won it himself in 2002 the best wrist shot ever no doubt about it!!!
He almost became soccer player, he started to play hockey when he was 13! It's not unusual for born and raised Croatian. I wish he come to Medvescak Zagreb game to open it. They got many ex-NHL and AHL players like Jamie Rivers, Joel Prpic, Jeff Heerema (Staals' cousin), Donald McLean, Aaron Fox, Ryan Kinasewich, Brad Smyth, Andy Delmore and Geoff Waugh. Zagreb's last season head coach was Ted Sator, he was also head coach of NY Rangers and Buffalo Sabres in 90s. GO AVS! Support from Croatia!
@tjackson76 come on, if someone doesn't like Creed - I don't actually - it doesn't mean that they listen to Bieber... IMO Creed isn't a real rockband, it's christian radio friendly shit... Great video though, Joe was a terrific center
@StillRottenToTheGore ok, so i just watched some of your videos and ya you rock. so good for you and so what if you don't like creed i don't care its not like i really listened to them in 10 years, i just thought this song would go good with the video.
It sucks man, I'm not saying joe sakic was like the only thing holding the Av's together but ever since he left, it just hasn't been the same, like the Av's as of now are on the biggest loseing streak and just continued it by losing to Minnisota, like come on guys, even players who were around for the Sakic era are becoming a lil off there game like Stasny and Hejduk. It's like when you a little kid and your dad leaves you, it's just never gonna be the same again.
Haha everytime Sakic or Forsberg scored, the goalie's that they scored on looked like they never wanted to play hockey again.. R.I.P Colorado avalanche 96-02
This is true, he was the only player on the Avalanche that I respected and thought was a tremendous hockey player back when the Wings/Avalanche rivalry was strong.
bettman's such a pussy, look at how he always wants to take a picture with both the captain and the cup, and the players always end up stealing the cup from him, crosby did the same
I watched that game when Colorado won the cup last time and instead of hoisting the cup himself, Joe handed it off to Ray Bourque, who had won the cup for the first time after 22 years, in his very last game in the NHL.
That was easily one of the coolest things I've ever seen in hockey.
Av's Captian has nothing on my BOY STEVI Y BABY!!! the Cups says it all! Yzerman is the man and will always be the man! ..... This should start a big ole fight lol! and if you want to go there HOW BOUT THAT FIGHT NIGHT AT THE JOE! WOW!! TURTLE ANYONE!
@tjackson76 Yeah i bet he would lol the best thing sakic could do is hold peter forsbergs stick. Cups don't lie Numbers don't Lie over here in hockeyTown we had the best Captian!!!!
@SavageTilley Colorado has won cups, you know? Numbers don't lie? Sakic has more points per game then Yzerman. How many Hart trophies has Yzerman won? Zero. Sakic = 1. Also Forberg only played with joe a few years, most of the time the team sucked especially when in quebec and Sakic always put up good numbers. Yzerman has always played on a stacked team. When Yzerman got older, his numbers dropped. When Sakic got older, numbers didn't drop.
@tjackson76 ok i was waiting for this one i got both there Numbers here start with stanley cups Yzerman 3 Sakic 2 Games played Yzerman 1514 Sakic 1378 Goals Yzerman 692 sakic 625 Assists Yzerman 1063 sakic 1016 PTS Yzerman 1755 Sakic 1641 Now these numbers are REG season !!!!!! and as you can see Yzerman is the man!!
@SavageTilley as i can see, Sakic has more points per game. Sakic = 1.19 Yzerman = 1.16. And Sakic has more playoff points. Sakic was also more aggresive then Yzerman. I'm not saying Sakic is better then Yzerman because I know they're both great players and very similar. But to say Yzerman is better just makes you look an idiot riding the redwing bandwagon. Oh and I can say Sakic IS the man for passing the cup to Bourque.
@tjackson76 LOL not all the way just a little bit i'll die argueing that Yzerman is better than Sakic all day everyday but the great one is not catch able! the only reason yzerman could of had a chance is if kept playing as an offenceive foward but when scotty bowmen got to the wings he changed Yzermans mind of playing 83-91 scoreing yzerman 91-06 Defence yzerman
He electrified the Avs during their cup runs in 1996 and 2001 and was always a player to look out for every season he played. I think my fondest memory of him was during the 2001 Stanley Cup final celebration and during all the hysteria and celebrating he skates over to the bench with his son in his arms, grabs a water bottle off of the bench and gives his son a drink from it. I was just amazed at his character on and off the ice.
@jkappianaq well, by looking at the clips here he wore #19 in the jrs. maybe when he joined the team someone else was 19(alain cote). Cote left the team the next year and joe became #19. maybe joe picked 88 because that was his first year in the nhl

Sakic and Forsberg vs Crosby and Malkin Sedin and Sedin vs Bäckström and Ovechkin Other great duos during the year is of course: The great one and Jari Kurri Lemieux and Jagr Näslund and Bertuzzi Spezza and Heatley Pronger and Scott Niedermayer Zetterberg and Franzén Lidström and Rafalski Selänne and Kariya Give comments It`s allways fun
@tjackson76 Creed sucks for so many reasons I can't list them all. But it's just my personal opinion, I respect that we all have different musical preferences. Though you should look up David Grohl Creed Parody :D
@inlp89 This song was written after Stapp used the technique to stop a recurring nightmare he had been experiencing in which he was pursued and killed by a gunman. In the dream, he would turn left at the end of a highway and hide under a bridge, only to be found by his assailant and shot. When he had studied lucid dreaming and tried the technique, he was able to turn right and escape the gunman.Stapp stated that after he wrote the lyrics, he never had the dream again. (awesome, not terrible)
@tjackson76 Probably Steve Yzerman. He didn't really have "seniority" per se, but being the gentleman he is, Joe always yielded 19 to Stevie Y in international play. Weird thing here is that he usually used 91, not 20. Maybe this is a bit older.
oh man, the clip when joe gives the cup to ray bourque gives me the goosebumps every time. what an amazing hockey player, a great guy, and a genuine role model that every kid who laces up skates should aspire to be like.
@goalie336 Both Joe Sakic and Joe Thornton have taken alternate jersey numbers for Team Canada in the past out of respect for Steve Yzerman's seniority...even when Steve Yzerman was injured and couldn't play. That's what makes Joe Sakic a great man and is highly respected even by Redwings fans.
Rooroo2012, Then you don't realy know Sakic enough, I'm pretty sure Joe Sakic loves all the fan's video like that, he's not violent.. idiot, he played a great hockey career, he did the job he had, now fan's doin video to remember what he did, I'm sure whatever the damn song it is, he dont care.
If you're not happy with it... then just watch another video, Thanks.
@havertrace Not a chance. Theres 5-7 guys better, then theres like 10 or so in the next group. He's in that 10. As far as just forwards, Howe, Richard, Gretzky, and Lemieux are the top 4 and thats in stone. Then Probably Yzerman, maybe Messier. Then theres that next group of 10 or sr so. Sakic, Trottier, Esposito, both Hulls, Bossy, Lafleur, Modano, Stastny, maybe Ron Francis, Gilbert Perrault, and Dale Hawerchuk.
@tjcurrie sakic is pretty even with yzerman IMO and bossy is one of the best goal scorers of all time so Bossy, Yzerman and Sakic would be in the group after Lemieux and Gretzky
@spypengyn Maybe. But I put Yzerman slightly ahead. I think he was more talented and I think he set the bar for guys like Sakic and Modano. And I put Bossy in that next group aswell just because he wasnt really all that rounded of a player. Great player, but unlike guys like Yzerman, Modano, and Sakic, he wasnt a complete player. Very tough to call but like I said, I put him in that group after Yzerman.
@tjcurrie yeah thats true. but as a goal scorer i think Bossy is in the highest group. but he did also play in the 80s were there was lots of scoring and probably wouldnt have had as many goals in the 90s
my favorite player ever, went through some lean years in quebec but peter stastny showed him the way,in my opinion they should have won the cup in 95 but kovalev dove like a soccer player, look it up if u want to,cheers sakic and nordiques fans

(awesome, not terrible)

superjoesakic91 1 year ago
@tjackson76 Probably Steve Yzerman. He didn't really have "seniority" per se, but being the gentleman he is, Joe always yielded 19 to Stevie Y in international play. Weird thing here is that he usually used 91, not 20. Maybe this is a bit older.

why did joe pick #20 for team canada??
goalie336 1 year ago

This song is a good one for a tribute.

Sakic top 3 all time.
havertrace 1 year ago
@havertrace Not a chance. Theres 5-7 guys better, then theres like 10 or so in the next group. He's in that 10. As far as just forwards, Howe, Richard, Gretzky, and Lemieux are the top 4 and thats in stone. Then Probably Yzerman, maybe Messier. Then theres that next group of 10 or sr so. Sakic, Trottier, Esposito, both Hulls, Bossy, Lafleur, Modano, Stastny, maybe Ron Francis, Gilbert Perrault, and Dale Hawerchuk.
tjcurrie 1 year ago
@tjcurrie sakic is pretty even with yzerman IMO and bossy is one of the best goal scorers of all time so Bossy, Yzerman and Sakic would be in the group after Lemieux and Gretzky
spypengyn 1 year ago
@spypengyn Maybe. But I put Yzerman slightly ahead. I think he was more talented and I think he set the bar for guys like Sakic and Modano. And I put Bossy in that next group aswell just because he wasnt really all that rounded of a player. Great player, but unlike guys like Yzerman, Modano, and Sakic, he wasnt a complete player. Very tough to call but like I said, I put him in that group after Yzerman.
tjcurrie 1 year ago
@tjcurrie yeah thats true. but as a goal scorer i think Bossy is in the highest group. but he did also play in the 80s were there was lots of scoring and probably wouldnt have had as many goals in the 90s
