  • what can i feed these guys? im thinking about getting some for my 20 gallon long (PLEASE ANSWER)

  • @TheMysteryman334 My dwarf puffers love frozen blood worms. The will eat brine shrimp and various other live and frozen foods as well.

  • what kind of shrimp is that in 1:04

  • @youmantube22 It is female of Caridina Multidentata (caridina japonica, amano shrimp).

  • Ok looks like the whole ram setup was a complete failure. One of the male puffers killed one of my rams. (At least I really didn't like that particular ram) I moved them to a different 5 gallon setup. They now eat frozen bloodworms and are lovin it! I'll probably get a video up soon. You are the one that inspired me to get these wonderful fish! Thanks a ton, b0k0matic! I mean it! I am so subscribing!

  • What if I have 2 puffers with my 2 platys and 2 rams? will they be too agressive? I plan to look for the most low key puffer available.

  • Before I got a platy I'd known that some people keep them together with dwarf puffers.

    Now I see 3 problems:

    - The platy eats very fast, puffers hardly have time to grab food.

    - Puffers nip platy's fins (generally dorsal and tail). Just gastronomy, no aggression.

    - Platys propagate!!! I got one female, now I have 2 her adult sons in addition and 8 juveniles.

  • Unfortunately I do not know what is "ram", so I can't comment it.

And what do you mean saying "low-key puffers"? Are you planning to got the same fish species Carinotetraodon Travancoricus? Fish behavior differs heavily depending upon species.

  • I finally got them! there are 2 dwarf puffers now, and my fish are ok with them. The puffers dont harass them and neither do the rams. Regarding on what you said, a Ram is a small species of cichlid that grows to be 3 inches at max. They are also one of the calm cichlids that won't get aggressive. Also regarding b0k0matic's comment, both platys are females with no sign of pregnancy. My question is, I do not see them eat! They are healthy, I've had them for about a week now.

  • @nintendude0701 I feed them frozen shrimp. Their tails are uncurled and open, but I never see them eat. They just pick at the log, and I don't know if there is food there or not. I've tried hand feeding, but they run away from my hand. What do I do to make sure they are eating?

  • Hehe, I've got who is "a ram" - it's microgeophagus ramirezi :)

About feeding. I've just asked in the fish store what food they gave to puffers. It was frozen bloodworms. So I feed them the same.

I've tried to take them frozen mussels and squid, they did not eat. It seems they just don't understand if it's food or not.

  • Gratz, m8!

  • Where did you get them? I have a setup for them and my LFS couldn't get them. Any reccomendations? I live in NJ

  • I live in St.Petersburg. In my city they are rare fish too. I'd been monitoring lots of fish stores and pet market for a 2 month. Finally, I asked ppl from our aquariumistic forum and someone said me where I can buy dwarf puffers.

It had to go crosstown in the little fish store. I bought 10 puffers, there were about 20 at all.

I recommend you to check (or ask) your local aquarium forums or other community. Good Luck!

  • Thanks :) Hope your guys are doing well! Good luck on mating them! ;)

  • The video

Good and stable close up shoots *****

    Editing / Cut ***

In my opinion the video is a bit too long. Excelent work!

  • Thanks a lot for detailed valuation. It is very significant for me. Actually this movie was my first experience of video editing. I'll try to make better.

  • I have seen my dwarf puffer puff many times. Last I saw puffing when 3 month old fry bite the adult females and made it puff. I look funny cause it's only half of adults size.

I have never tease them to puff. Almost every case they were bitting each other. Once I saw males to small puffing (not full scale puffing) when them wer solving how is how in the tank.

  • your fish are adorable :o)

  • Thanks :)

  • It would be wonderful if my puffers spawn. At the moment I can only wait.

  • By the way. Pygmy/Dwarf pufferfish and all tropical puffers do not puff. Only the salt water ones. If you scare salt water ones into puffing, it kills them if you do it to much! I am planning on breeding mine. Are you ?

  • Freshwater species are able to puff up too.

You can check out video by PXYG called 'Dwarf Puffer 48' for example.

  • I knew that dwarf puffer males are territorial fishes.

There is some trick called "dispersion of aggression".

For example, you can keep 10 territorial fishes together. They are aggressive, but there are too much objects of aggression. As result, each fish gets a small part of aggression. This is acceptable and does not make them stressed.

Other example is two territorial fish in one tank. One becomes dominant and whole aggression is targeted to another. Dominant even can kill it.

  • Cool. I use litres normally but on youtube and stuff, I use gallons because most people are Amrcian -.- I have 1 male and 3 females. How many other fish do you keep with your puffers ? They are non-community. I keep mine with 3 male guppies. I might be getting a bigger tank. Do they eat the shrimps ? Mine only get blood worms daphina brine shrump and water snails... What do you feed yours ? By the way... I would be careful with 5 males. I had 6, 3 male and female, thats why I only have1 male now

  • They don't touch adult shrimps, but find baby shrimps delicious. It is not problem because I don't want population explosion of cherry shrimps.

I feed them by frozen bloodworms and live snails. They do not eat frozen mussels, squids, daphnia. It seems they eat live daphnia/cyclops. I've just started to cultivate them.

  • Puffer fish! No puff??

  • Puffers do not puff normally. They do it only being scared or feeling danger.

I have not seen puffs of my fishes, because I think that it is bad idea to frighten them into puff.

  • I have four of these guys :)

How many gallon is ur tank

  • Tank is 55 liters. I'm not sure about gallons, in my opinion, it's 14.5 US gallons.

I have 9 of them, 5 males and 4 females.

  • your puffers are adorable :o)

  • Nice video

  • Thanks. I am really glad to hear it from you. Actually your videos were one of reasons of my decision to get dwarf puffers.
