My friend,I hate to be picky but..That aint how you hold em..your hands are too far up. You want to have about 2 inches of the butt beneath your hand. Not the 6 you were showing. Also at the beginning you loosely twirled the stick between your fingers..Eskrima requires a solid grip else it's too easy to get them knocked out of your hand..Please,if you are going to show the world your skills,do it correctly..I feel qualified to speak on the subject as I've studied eskrima in the Phillippines. Thanks
First, where's the History? All that was said was a very basic overview of the weapon, not the History behind it. Most importantly, THE FILIPINO MARTIAL ARTS DON'T HAVE NOR THEY EVER DID HAVE ANYTHING TO DO WITH NINJUTSU! Being a Black Belt in Kobudo doesn't makes anyone an expert on a totally different martial art from a totally different country.
It's sad to see our martial art's "history" (our sacrifices, knowledge and art) and its evolution explained like this.
No history of who we are as people, why the art transferred from blades to sticks. Foundation and understanding behind the art is key to your progress and growth as an FMA student.
I'm all for the preservation, expansion of our art and have been a long time practitioner. But it's sad to see that people see this video as "expert" reference to our beautiful but deadly art
With slightly over a minute for an explanation afforded to him by the producers of the video, it would have been hard to do *any* martial arts tool justice.
I hate to be critical, but this video clip is practically useless. It sounds like the sort of demo/lecture you would give to 85-year-old women down at the local senior citizens hall. If you're going to talk about escrima sticks, how about some history of the Filipino martial arts or a demo of two or three common FMA techniques or counters?
I really don't want to sound like an ass, but in all seriousness, where did you earn your black belt? What style did you train in? With all due respect it almost seems like you read a book or two and went and ordered a whole dojo (belts weapons and everything) from a century catalog.
Also,Where did you learn to use escrimas. I don't really see hardly any Arnis or Kali fundamentals in your escrima fighting.
Probably because sticks have been used for fighting since people have been able to hold them. Or monkeys, if you've seen "2001: A Space Oddysee" where they use the "escrima" bones, lol. Actually, I think that should be the official history of escrima sticks. ;)
@spar00champ actually there is... it came from the philippines tho escrima(ma) was not really performed using 2 sticks instead 2 sword(kampilan, kalis and etc) long story short it was forbidden by the spaniards so they improvised it with sticks as u see there are no written book about the techniques because the moves were passed on by mouths of the guro <-- i think its a filipino word fr master or something.... well thats all i know
oh my god.... your hands are too distant from the the lower tip.... it should be 2 inches..... or else you will be easily disarmed.....

there was no history about the escrima sticks.
all it was was how it can be used.i bet you dont even know where it came from.
next time when you say "that is a simple history" say some history before you say that.
spar00champ 4 years ago 17
