Looks like that ship has a scale speed of about 100mph. Interesting how many hours are spent building these ships. Then complete disregard for scale speed. Makes no sense to me.

Well, normally the scale speed should be a "real speed" / SQRT(scale) => 16knots / 87^-2 => 16knots / 9.3 => 0.88 m/s OR 3.17 km/h.

But the navigation scale course is quite long and there is a 7 minute limit and does not depend on the scale of the model. Therefore the speed of the model is about 2x more than according to the above formula.

If I run it with the formula speed, the wave produced is really like on the real vessel - which I was sailing on and also watching from a shore.

I completely agree that the speed is too high, if I sail myself, not on competition, I reduce speed to a normal and really enjoy it.

I'm building this ship for about a seven years now, but getting closer to finish it in 1-2 years. But there is still lot of fun, I'm making all small parts according to photos I made on board - photoetched out of brass.

Great ship what company produces that kit?

There is no kit, this is scratch built. I have very little information and very basic drawing, but several hundreds of photos made by myself in The Netherlands and Belgium of 3 sister ships. I am drawing detailed plans, constructing the hull, superstructure and use photo etching for all details. The model in 1:87 scale will have all possible details.
