Dr. Oz, I have a question for you sir. I smoked for almost 20 years and quit at 34 years of age. Ever since I quit, I started running and lifting weights. I run 6 miles per day with the exception of 2 resting days. Sometimes I replace the run with an 18 mile bike ride. I feel a lot better than I used to feel. I've been free from cigarettes for almost 11 months and my question is will my lungs ever recover?
@cageybee777 I've read that the lungs take roughly one month to heal for every year you smoked. This seems like a general number, and obviously there's a point of no return where the lungs could be permanently damaged if you smoked for long enough.
I am going to do all 5 things until the day I retire or turn 70. When I turn 70 I am going to do whatever feels good. I am going to buy a tanning bed and spend hours in it, I am going to start smoking again, I am going to whatever and I will stop working out. Living a longer life is overrated. I don't want to be old, crippled and senile. I don't think I could save enough for retirement to support my crippled ass past 80.
um... if you don't drink milk.... are you unhealthy... i hate milk (white milk...) and my parents won't buy chocolate milk cause they say its to sugary.... so how do i drink milk if i feel like i'm gonna puke everytime i drink it TT_TT
@Dovepaw3 i used to drink yoohoo alot when i was younger which in my opinion is a great alternative, it contains a good amount of calcium and vitamin D, yogurt contains a good amount of milk, and cereal is usually easier for most people who don't like milk by itself
"We" See tv static in front of our eyes. We need help. We need Oprah, Dr Phil, Dr Oz! Please go check out my video and post it everywhere. We need media attention on this. People are mentally dying.. We need help please.
@20470ify Yikes, seems like you ARE having a mental breakdown. Try remembering that the stuff that seems so extremely important / stressful today will most likely will be quite insignificant tomorrow.
OMG im gonna die if i put my hand in my handbag without a glove on or eat that fruit of the shelf at the supermarket or pat that dog without a glove on or breathe air inside my house without the window open or..... hahahaha
what about people that can't get rid of their high blood pressure.. I have high blood pressure but i take medication, I am also trying to control it with diet and exercise..
Stress...this man speaks the truth...when my mom died, my dad was so stressed out...3 years later, diagnosed with colon cancer. My brother lost his job...2 years later, colon cancer. A significant life event can really leave us vulnerable to disease...learn to deal with stress! Dr. Oz is a great guy, let's take responsibility for our health!
OK So the heart attack animation just scared me into going to the basement and getting on my treadmill. I've always known that being overweight is unhealthy, but I think it just hit me. Thanks Doc. BTW I watch your show because I can't afford to go to the doctor. lol [seriously]
I don't disagree with the points in this clip, which are great ideas, but the overall message. This is more about the media emphasizing "longer healthier lives" in general. I don't think it's about living as long as possible, but living as great a life as possible, which is sort of touched on in "healthier", but I'm thinking in a broader perspective. These tips will also help in a better life for sure!
Okay so fair enough, these tips are a good starting point to keep your body functioning properly a little longer. But they won't help to provide maintenance to your body in the long run: for that we will need science. In the same way you can repair an old steam engine car to work like new, it is possible to fix the problems of aging at a cellular level; we even basically know how, see Methuselarity. But for some reason most people don't take this research seriously. Why? See also Aubrey de Grey.
Thanks, Dr. Oz for sharing your videos on You Tube. Health education is so important, and you make it so understandable. It is wonderful to have the basic steps you can take to have better health spelled out in such simplicity. There is so much information out there today, it helps to have it put in five simple steps. Keep up the great work!

@Dovepaw3 If you feel like puking when you drink milk, you might have a lactose intolerance or a milk allergy. Try lactose free milk.
