@brettv54 Hi there nice video do you happen to know what happened with this future police car concept prototype and did any features like the voice activated touch screen get approved for use in police department vehicles? It sure seems like a cool tool for the cops to have in their patrol cars.
This is awesome. Voice commands make so much sense, as it allows the officer to keep more attention on the road, and task at hand and less attention fiddling with his controls or computer. Was this a concept for a certain police dept. or is this going in to production? I'd love to see Fusion cop cars on the roads.
Wow, it's going to be hard to get a ex police car now that everything is built in including the computer. But it's nice. I hope our police dept get some.
I test drove this in December 2009 to February 2010.... good voice commands and great, but, voice commands driving Code 3 is nearly impossible. It's too hard to do that clearing intersections and focusing on pursuit driving.
But that said, layout is great and controls were easy to use.
Since when was a Fusion a good car? Don't get me wrong, the tech is nice, but it's nothing really special, just a touchscreen with TTS and voice recognition (hint: 10-year-old stuff, especially that unimpressive voice). And I drove a Fusion on a trip in Michigan, I thought the damn thing was made of recycled tin cans and sand. I'll stick to P71s and Chargers, thanks.
dumb ass pulled me over today in one of those, he thought my vehilce was stolen and was a complete asshole... if i was in my own town where my grandfather is cheif i would takin the prick for the ride of his life. no ford can touch my chevy
So basically, you're showing all the stupid crap they glued to the dashboard, and calling it a better car? How does it handle when chasing down a murderer? That's the only aspect of a police car that matters, period.
This car is so nice that our sheriff's office has quit buying chargers and are going to buy these but the chargers have serious probelms we've had to replace 3 engines in the last year with the Chargers
@godzilla74114 If we were to race them and get caught doing our sheriff would shit and fire us in a heart beat plus our camreas stay on during our whole shift
it's all nice but can he go faster then me :) ? he better run a turbo on that with nitrous on the top of that lol voice recognition was introduced in windows bloody ages ago and touch screens in come cars were since like mid '90 i've seen a car on the junk yard with integrated touchscreen and it looked like it was from 92-97, now days you can get a car computer with the touch screen for about a cost of a regular laptop or desktop or less and there some for $150 if you take time too look online
@RoidinRichie BAHAHAHA yep thats true thats how i got caught up i was like 2 blocks away coming back to my house when that cop got a call about my stupid ass doing donuts in front of k-mart and went right bhind me pulled me over and goes like hey vladimir whats you doing how's life ahh local pd knows me too good lol had to repaint my car so i wouldn't be getting pulled over 10 times a day haha
Oooo a touch screen. ha ha ha ha only thing the new caprice doesn't have. Oh wait thats right they have laptops. Bet they can't take the screen out of the car and into office. And the new caprice will blow the doors off this thing
@blancer1 Can you imagine just how hard it would be to get this one ready for auction when it retires as a police cruiser? A version of the 2011 Chevy Caprice already serves in Australia and several Arab nations as a police cruiser. The VE SS Commodore (known as the Pontiac G8 in the US) is the short wheelbase version of the Caprice, and it has served as a cop car for decades
Damn controls in the steering wheel? SWEET! Lets see if Chevy tries to come out with this. Ford has always come out with the best technology to make it easier for police.
@brandonya1990 Chevrolet only would have to ask GM Holden to install it for them. The Caprices are Australian designed and built for Chevrolet. It's about resale value. If you have to strip all the police-related equipment out of it to auction it, it gives police forces all kinds of budget headaches. Although it's about time Ford got off their arses and built something better than the Crown Vic
@jordan666die Definitely not the Crown Vic, that thing is a dinosaur. You should look up "FG Falcon Police Car." Chevy is importing their Caprice from Australia. Ford could do something similar, as the Australian Falcon is decades ahead of the Crown Vic. A Mustang isn't practical as a police cruiser because it's a two door
@Mechknight73 ford will most likely be the main choice of police cars for a long time to come, ford already has the taurus coming out as the new police car, the taurus is better than the chevy for a number of reasons but the crown vic has served the police force well and still will for many more years, and i said the mustang because you need a fast police car for those fast drivers
@jordan666die And it would make a hell of a lot more sense to put a Mustang engine and suspension in a four door. Ok, they catch their bank robbers; but because it's a coupe, they have no way of taking them to the station until backup arrives, therefore wasting everybody's time. The Taurus will never catch a Holden Caprice (AKA Chevy Caprice). Was tested in 1997, and that was a fail!
@Mechknight73 i agree abut making a four door mustang for police use but if theyre going to need a mustand theyre most likely have back up anyway especialy if its a bank robber :P and that was in 1997 this is 2010 the both have pretty much newer everything it will be interestiong when the race them :D
@jordan666die The whole point is to make a car that is mutli use, rather than just a one trick pony (pardon the pun) A Mustang as a pursuit car would look good but wouldn't be all that practical. Once upon a time, the Mustang sat on a modified Falcon floorpan. They could go back to this idea, and call the sedan whatever they like.
@Mechknight73 well the taurus is definatly multi use but whatever makes the policer officers happy and more efficent makes me happy plus its fast and easy to build and easy to fix so it doesnt have to spend mounths in a shop to get fixed
@jordan666die Multi use yes, but an efficient pursuit car as well? Chevrolet imported the Holden Caprice because it has already earned its stripes in the field. Australian roads are a lot harder on a car than many US highways, and what Holden put them through in prototype testing, 100 times harder again. They are potentially even easier to service and repair than a Taurus, and they're RWD
@j2joshua what so special about this? I mean the gauges are nice but I doubt they will put this one in the car since PPVs are being hammered everyday.VoiceControl is nothing new.Ford Tauru is better.
@j2joshua Except for resale value. It's a brilliant concept, but when it retires from police service, it would be a pain in the arse to strip it of all its police-related equipment.
@44altecz Yeah I'm up for a new car and Ford has yet to release it yet it's 2011 it's suppost to be available this year Chevy has already released their car if Ford doesn't hurry up and give us an update on their release date
I have a 2010 ford fusion and I am going make it into an unmarkd car it's going be sick !!! Brett is there anyway you can message me I tired to give you my email .
