I thought the event volunteer was very classy in handling such insults. I don't agree with a lot of what Paul stands for, and I only consider myself "half" libertarian, but the irony of Ron Paul is that he's so popular in his own district that he'd win no matter which party he ran for. So, he could run for Congress in the Libertarian party in his own district and win, and thus be the first Libertarian member of Congress and start the ball rolling for third parties. He ran for the Libertarian party Presidential nomination once, so why not?
