Gay marriage was not one of the reasons Kerry lost in 2004- Kerry lost because his campaign, as former DNC Chairman Terry McAuliffe once put it- was one of the worst campaigns in modern political history. And as for John Edwards, he's so phony it's ridiculous. Hillary Clinton for President 2008!

If we can let a director marry his adopted daughter than we might as well allow gays to marry. And what if a zoo-keeper wants to marry his chimp? We shouldn't deny him equality, right?
Animals do not have the same rights as humans, are not citizens, cannot sign and enter into a contract, etc. etc. Back off the slippery slope; no one's buying it.
Overall I think he did a nice job in this debate. He can't rationally articulate his opposition to gay marriage because it isn't rational. His tendency to fight for equality is waring against his upbringing. I agree with lol998, that gay marriage was a powder keg for the democratic party in 2004. To some extent the Republican party, by making such a stink over gay marriage, makes it easier to pass civil union legislation. It may feel like baby steps, but they still are all forward.
We appreciate all the nice things you have to say about GLBT rights, but ultimately you don't support marriage equality. So far, you have not be able to clearly and rationally articulate the reason(s) for your opposition.
Kucinich seems to be the only Democratic candidate truly understands, embraces and supports equality for all.
urbanwarrior, while I'm okay with gay marriage, I don't think that this is a winning issue if the Democrats push for it.
We lost 2004 due to gay marriage. I do believe we will have gay marriage in the future, but if the Democrats put their eggs in that basket, they will elect another Republican.
GO JOHN GO! YOU HAVE MY VOTE!

I have to say that gay marriage is against my upbringing too. But who am I to say that? Who am I to say what is right for someone's life?
I will not. I will be the change I need to be and see! I will have that much courage!
