plzz guys i need answers brief and good..i have 2 exams in in one day and i don't have time to find the answers..."name of two experment by Zimbardo ?"
I have always had my doubts about this experiment. Look at the "guard" on the lefts dominant body language and swaggering manner. If It is obvious to me that he is a bully - highly trained psychologists are not going to miss it. I dont think Zimbardo is being honest - I think he selected "guards" with aggressive personalities and prisoners with passive personalities. The experiment was more about personality than environment.
I agree. Zimbardo is a huckster who has been living off this for forty years. If the passive types were guards and aggressive types were inmates the result would have been totally different and much more accurate of the prison environment of blue collar 9 to 5 workers watching very aggressive prisoners. But of course, this does not fit the PC narrative that Zimbardo wanted. He makes this a warning of fascism while the Marxist Jim Jones was controling his members at the same time of this study.
from Zimbardo's book it is obvious that some prisoners were more aggressive, whereas some gaurds were rather passive. not all guards reacted the same way. the prisoners thought some of them were "bad guards" while others were "good guards". although the "good guards" did not behave in the sadistic manner the "bad guards" displayed, they did nothing to stop the abuses from occuring either.
@RobGoth100 Uhm.. All the guards and prisoners were selected at RANDOM. Fascism, Communism, and corporatism all look exactly the same when one group of people is put into a dominant role over another group of people and taught to believe that the "lower" group are trouble makers for their positions of power.
@seanotube85 "Corporatism" usually does not control the state like fascism or communism, You can quit your job but you can't quit Hitler or Stalin.
As for the random selections, I don't think the the weak kid would make an effective guard against the tough brawny kid on the right. No way it was "random".
@RobGoth100 He might if he had a nightstick and five other guards to back him up. And, yeah, those were only two out of the 24 OTHER students selected. So maybe you should look at EVERYONE before you decide you're going to jump to conclusions. Corporatism has CREATED fascism in some countries to take advantage of their resources in the past. Do you think Hitler would've risen to power without corporate aid from multi-national banking institutions who saw profits from war?
@RobGoth100 So is corporatism. Like I said, they saught profit from war with the Nazis and donated to their cause to take advantage of an evil entity. That's not to say all corporations are evil. Just many large multinational corporations seeking power over world governments' decisions/laws. They find pesky people who stand up for human rights or their environment to be troublemakers, and being in their positions of great power and influence would like to throw them in jails and let them rot.
@seanotube85 That's a good thing. No two nations that both have a McDonalds ever went to war against each other....think about it. Corporations will save us.
@RobGoth100 I think there is 1 McDonalds in Baghdad, but there's also a knockoff called "MaDonal" lol. I don't believe this proves that corporations are going to save us. It just means that they like to gang up together in support of one another. They'll still try to rob us all blind, destroy the environment, and make our lives miserable for an extra buck and short term profits for their investors. They don't think long-term. The recent oil spill is one example out of many of their recklessness.
@AlanTTT3 He selected the prisoners and guards at random. There were aggressive prisoners as well as aggressive guards, and everyone started out by taking the study not so seriously to begin with. When the guards were told that they needed to keep the prisoners in line so that they would take them more seriously, that's when they started coming up with cruel ways to sadistically handle the prisoners. This interaction was filmed AFTER the experiment. They had ALREADY internalized their positions.
I guess the whole experiment was about showing that anyone has the ability to inflict harm on others. Anyone can become a torturer.
What's shocking is how fast everything went out of hand.
& just to let you know, the people didn't know what they were getting themselves into, all they knew is that they volunteered for an experiment. & the next thing they knew, they're in a cell.
They flipped a coin for who becomes prisoner & who becomes guard...
I still don't understand the experiment. The guards and prisoners both knew they were part of the experiment. Couldn't the prisoners have just said "let me out or I'm sewing stanford" The prisoners knew what was going on so wtf...
i thought that, i think it's supposed to be that when they're put in that environment, stripped of their identity and that wiv the glasses and bags over their heads they lose their individual mentality and the ability to think for themselves that they are capable of removing themselves from the situation. like with milgram and the people who complied when there was actually no real reason why they shouldn't say no, just because a bloke wiv a clip board told them to carry on. still not sure tho.
Yeah, the milgram experiment was more believe able for me though because it seemed more like is a superior is telling you something it's because they know what they're doing. I dont know though, yeah i guess they did lose their mind.
The purpose of Zimbardo's Stanford Prison experiment was to examine social rolls. By taking a group of students and then placing them into a different social roll, they tried to determine whether it would effect their physical and mental actions. Once put in these new rolls, the actors took the characteristics for that roll. One of the interesting effects is that the guards became extremely sadistic. It got so bad, what was supposed to be a 2 week experiment, only lasted 6 days.
@yangistan This took place in the '70's, so suing wasn't so big back then as it is nowadays. Also they all signed waiver agreements for the experiment.

Fcuk the guard! Should have kick him in the balls when you are released.

unfortunately the dude likes Nickleback today. So judging on his taste in music, he would of kissed the guard's balls rather than kicked them
